Imas SideM Prologue sells 11146/2984, total 14,130. 32.0%/0.6% underestimated. Event ticket, partially shared with the OP CD. This will not be counted as part of the TV series average, it’s a special before ep 1. A decent start, but anything Imas-realted tends to have very short legs so this may not go beyond 16k. Guess we’ll see? I can see the full series ending at or above 10k probably, based on this.

Gurren Lagann Movie BD Box sells 1,464.
TV series BD Box sells 1,214. There was a previous BD box (sold 14,057) that combined the TV series and movies. Adding on this TV BD box, it’s now #6 in the BD box list with ¥877m.

I guess somehow I thought Jupiter would do more, my boys. my shouta. Though I guess, one would just be buying a single episode.
Luck & Logic fans didnt show up for hinalogic, what :(
–
And no more Starmyu until 2019, wonder how the disc landscape will be for the series then. Go.
In the end Jupiter never quite put up the Animate ranking necessary to crush its Amazon ranking. And of course the event ticket v0 comes with was split half and half with the OP CD, which has sold 83,051 already. So if all you wanted was a shot at that first concert, the CD was a significantly cheaper option.
It’s currently the fourth best selling CD in the Idolmaster franchise, and will end up at least #3, possibly #2. Pretty sure both #1 and #2 were event ticket CDs, so it’s a pretty fair comparison too.
As for Hinalogi, it actually sold over 3x what L&L v1wk1 did… for what little that’s worth.
Why won’t you count Jupiter’s prologue toward the series average? It was clearly marketed as part the main series (releasing one week before the “first” episode aired) and there’s even a very sought-after event ticket bundled with it.
I recall you made some exceptions for both Animas’ and Deramas’ calculation, by including sales of their G4U games, and also treating Deramas as a 2-cour series instead of its actual release schedule of a split-cour. Shouldn’t it be very simple for you to include SideM’s prologue as one of the 8 volumes that’ll be released in its the first season? (and yes, I do believe this is going to be a split-cour as well, judging by how they’re rolling out the units introduction)
Or are these exceptions only reserved for female idols/anime you like? Of course it’s up to you at the end of the day, and this is by no means a dig at the all the hard work you put into the site (I do appreciate your effort), but just thought I should point out the inconsistencies in how you’re treating the different Idolmaster franchises. And I think many of us who track sales closely would appreciate the inclusion of its prologue in the series average, it paints a more complete picture of SideM’s sales performance after all.
You’re assuming malice where there’s really just a simple question of categorization. I mean, I decided to classify Episode 0 as a special before the show had even aired, at which point I was actually pretty excited about it, with it being my second-most anticipated show of the season. So no it’s not a matter of playing favorites. And an “episode 0” prologue is a completely different scenario from the G4U discs. The latter were literally just another edition of the show, containing the same exact episodes, except bundled with the G4U games. It’s similar to an RE vs an LE. The question was never if they should have been counted (not doing so would leave us with a useless number). Rather the concern was that some of the data would come from Oricon (the normal BDs) and some from Media Create (the BD/game bundles). We try not to mix trackers when it can be avoided, because they employ different sales tracking methodologies. Deremas was treated as one season because it was originally planned as such. It only became split cour later due to production difficulties.
So I look at the prologue disc and I see, well, a prologue special episode. That’s how it was marketed, and it’s not being called Volume 1. I could have gone either way with it – it’s certainly not an exact science. But treating it as a special just felt natural.
It’s not going to radically change the average, if that’s what you’re worried about. And it’s not like the way I categorize shows has any effect on their success or failure in the real world. Aniplex is making the same money either way.
Seems to me you’re just mansplaning now (not that I’m surprised, this is just how internet culture is like these days).
In any case like I said this is up to you, no hard feelings on my part and yes, I am perfectly capable of doing a simple average myself so no big deal. I certainly didn’t think it would have and I’m quoting you over here “any effect of their success or failure in the real world”. As a long-time follower of your site I just thought I should point out the inconsistencies, the fact that you think I assumed “malice” (again, quoting you here) was certainly not how I wanted to portray this.
I would appreciate it very much if you refrain from using the term “mansplain” here. Mansplaining is a product of the (admittedly predominantly Western) feminism with specific meanings that don’t apply to someanithing’s response. Using it haphazardly like this just dilutes its meanings.
And I can see why someanithing would mistake the tones of your post and interpret it as something maybe more hostile than intended. Being accused of partiality is not something pleasant.
I apologise for the off-topic rant.
You were actively seeking out a specific person with a specific question, and got an answer to that question, which is maybe the exact opposite of mansplaining? So like, let’s not go there. No “explaining mansplaining is mansplaining!” either, please. I’m going to have no patience for that.
“Or are these exceptions only reserved for female idols/anime you like?” can only be read as implying different tracking methods are being used for different shows based entirely on my personal tastes, even if that wasn’t your intent. That’d be one of the most malicious things that could be done on a site like this! So if you even raise that as a possibility, yeah I’m going to shut it down, bluntly and unapologetically. I enjoy answering questions but my patience evaporates the moment that kind of thing is even implied.
And please realize that I have no idea who you are. You’re a first-time commenter and since you’re not using a handle I know from elsewhere, I have to assume we’ve never spoken before. I have no idea how much you (or most people I get questions from) know or don’t know, so my approach is always to assume the person I’m replying to knows basically nothing. Not in a “oh they’re so dumb let me school them lol” sense but in a “sales discussion is weird niche shit, so I’m gonna start from square one even if it might be retreading old ground for this person” sense. Plus other people may read the conversation too, and even if you know some of these things, they might not.
By the way the “it won’t affect its success in the real world” was only slightly flippant. I’ve answered maaany questions from people who think the numbers seen here hold some special meaning that matter in and of themselves, when in reality they’re nothing more than the best approximations we can muster of a reality the publishers aren’t going to share with us.
I was wondering, we’re now 9-ish weeks into the season. It seems like not too many of the current season’s volume 1’s have been released, or is it just me? I don’t really pay attention to release dates but I know lately we’ve been getting some weird attempts from the industry to do things like release a vol. 1 only a week or two into a season and staggered BD/DVD releases. Just wondering if the bulk of the releases are later into this season or not.
The super early release this season was Net-juu’s DVD version. Other than that, it’s been pretty normal. A couple series start this week (so I need to get that Fall Vol. 1 post started I guess) and then a few more in mid-December before the holiday rush.
Ah got it. That Net-Juu release sure was odd lol.
And the BD box drops the same day the final episode airs (it’s only 10 eps). Weird weird weird.
Updated with the full list
I really hope the new index anime sells enough for them to keep going. even though it was kinda confirmed they’re doing more than index III
So Welcome to the Ballroom comes out this week (very close to the end of its 2-cour run). The second half was better than the first imo, has the estimate gone up at all? Either way the sales will likely be a big disappointment. What could have been…
Also vol 1 of MahoYome, hope the Animate rankings help it put up a decent fight.
The Ballroom estimate is higher than it was back in September, but we’re still talking about only a 1.3k estimate.
Got my granblue fantasy v7 dvd (also jealous that even the cheapo dvd comes with such a nice art book, I didnt realize jpn releases are so nice compared to my countries barebones sentai filmworks releases. Previously bought all the persona 3 movie imports from aniplex usa and thought that was just a special thing for bonuses and nice package. Aniplex does good, and occasionally funi (seraph bd set and guilty crown)
Saw lots of people getting both gbf 6 and 7, or just 7. Wonder how big both will be this upcoming week and if all volumes will suddenly appear. People want their gold bars.

Dive!! darn, I was hoping another swimming anime would do well. Another one of my fav anime cursed with low performance.
Any news on how Vatican Kiseki is selling?
To see it’s current average (as of when I last updated, usually it’s every two weeks) check the 2017 Averages and Per-Volume Sales posts.
In the end, the Index/Railgun BD Boxes ended up selling better than I was expecting.
