Summer update:
Katsugeki Tourabu v1 adds 272 BDs, total 13,649. The lowest Hanamaru volume was 14,021 so it’s still not quite there. The first non-ticket Hanamaru volume sold 17,829 so it’s definitely falling short of that. Next up is the event ticket, let’s see if it can gain any ground there.

Spring update:
Frame Arms v2 sells 7,978. BD-only release. As with v1, bundled with a plamo kit. All four volumes are so I expect similar sales, since they probably manufactured a similar number of sets for each figure, and presumably all sold out.

Shingeki s2 v2, final volume, sells 5170/990, total 6,160. Series average: 7,076. Season one averaged 52,078 so… yeah.

Granblue v4 adds 250/218, total 33,894.

Deremas Gekijou v3, final volume, adds 182 BDs, total 11,106. Series average: 21,789.

Starmyu s2 v2 adds 172/245, total 8,973 in wk5, meaning it added 192 DVDs in wk4 and 394 BDs in wk3-4. By popping back up in the rankings this week it boosted v2 sales by a rather significant 1,102. It’s still trending below s1 (10.7/9.9k s1v1/2 vs 9.8/9.0k s2) but overall, a pretty excellent hold. Now to see how v3+ fare, as those dropped down to ~5k for s1.

HeroAca s2 v2 adds 331/370, total 3,343.

Past seasons:
Maidragon v6 sells 2430/354, total 2,784.

LWA v5 adds 253 BDs, total 2,210.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Kizumonogatari Movie 3 adds 456 LE BDs, total 40,514.

  1. SheeP-kei says:

A shame that more wasn’t added to the Little Witch number, oh well. Curious about how Atom will sell, probably will be less then a 1000 though.

    • Tuna says:

Probably felt like one of the least talked about and most overlooked anime, though maybe the manga picked up more readers. I enjoyed atom and co. We need more graduate school setting series.

  2. Ayumi says:

Those sales for YOUR NAME is underwhelming, isn’t it? I thought it would easily break 1 million but now it seems it’s impossible to reach even 800k. Considering how big of a phenomenon it is, I’m surprised. (I enjoyed the movie but still don’t understand how it became so big. It’s not something I’d rewatch like Totoro, Laputa, etc.)

    • something says:

I don’t see how we can call it underwhelming. The only anime films that sold more discs (or tapes, for the older ones) are a few of the most popular Ghibli family films. It will have surpassed every non-Ghibli anime film once it crosses Eva 2.22, which it should in the long run (784k now, Eva is 839k). It’s even passed all but a small handful of Disney/Pixar western animation family/kids films.

Like I always say, there’s no way to predict disc sales with box office revenue. The two are just very, very different things. And while KnNw is safe for kids/families as far as I know, it’s not specifically aimed at them in the way a Ghibli movie is, or the way western Disney/Pixar titles are. It was never going to be the kind of film every parent buys for their kids for decades to come, in the way that keeps Sen to Chihiro or Totoro or Majo no Takkyuubin ranking basically every week forever.

And it’s guaranteed to pass 800k. Heck, it only needs 16k so I expect that to happen next week, or the week after at the absolute latest. There’s a chance it abruptly slows down enough to fall short of Eva’s 839k but I give it better than even odds of making it.

  3. AholePony says:

Wow that’s a big week next week. Looks like Maid Dragon has been fairly consistent at least? *grasping at straws for that silver lining*

  4. derpinat0r says:

They should make Shingeki no kyojin s3 BD’s cheaper and easier to buy. tbh every anime that doesn’t depend on BD sales should do it.

    • something says:

The price was normal for a one cour show, it just came in two chunks rather than six. I honestly don’t know if releasing it as singles would have changed things much. They could try going for cheaper pricing next time, sure, but not many people will buy s3 without buying s2, and cutting the price in half requires at least doubling your unit sales so… I think it faced problems a lot bigger than its choice of release format.

  5. something says:

Welp. I know the full ranking text file came out on Friday because I saw the link in the JP thread, but those links only stay active for a few minutes so I’d long since missed it. But it hasn’t been posted to the urisure or even that Chinese forum, so I’m still waiting.

Edit: it’s out now on Sunday, will get it posted in a bit.

  6. something says:

    Full list posted.

  7. Luchael says:

Well, at least it’s better than nothing for LWA. I’ve heard that the second cour wasn’t well received, so that may be the reason for the sudden drop. Maid Dragon also fell under 3K territory, but not that badly and the next volume should be able to sell better because of the onsen episode.

I kinda hoped that Saekano would be in the full list. Oh well, it probably will need yearly ranking to be a 10K seller anyway.

At least HeroAca keeps adding more discs, not that it really needs to. Lately its TV ratings have been pretty good, so season 3 is pretty much confirmed at this point. Still, I’m curious to see how the future volumes will sell.

So many series end next week, too bad most of them will have average sales below 2K. And more summer titles are getting released, Katsugeki won’t be alone anymore. I’m particularly interested in Saiyuuki’s sales. From what I’ve seen, the preorders for it were pretty good.
