Spring update:
Starmyu s2 v1 sells 4232/3644, total 7,876. Event ticket. 26.0/0.5% underestimated. Quite close to the 8,207 wk1 of s1v1.

Shingeki s2 v1 sells 5486/1117, total 6,603. Event ticket. 40.2/96.7% underestimated. That’s compared to the high-price penalized estimate. It came in between the penalized and unpenalized estimates as expected, though I thought it would be above 7k. For reference, s1v1wk1 sold 56,793. So there you have it, the worst sequel implosion in history, disc-wise.

Re:Creators v1 sells 2016/245, total 2,261. 23.4/34.3% overestimated.

[c]Clockwork Planet[/x] v1 sells 721/175, total 896. 22.5/43.4% overestimated.

Kenka Banchou v1 sells 279/394, total 673. 45.0/47.3% overestimated.

v1 unranked:
Love Kome: We Love Rice

Winter update:
Chain Chronicle v1 sells 514 as a BD-only release. 31.% overestimated.
v2 sells 476.
v3 sells 440.
It was released as films originally but they were basically pre-screens of the weekly TV series, so I guess I’m tracking it as a TV series.
It released all three volumes at once, so Series Average: 477.

ACCA v2 sells 2683/1413, total 4,096. Actually a bit better than v1wk1.

Bang Dream v2 sells 3,383. BD-only release. While all vols have event tickets, clearly this isn’t selling as much as v1 (5.8k wk1).

Kobayashi-san v4 sells 2828/419, total 3,247.

LWA v3 sells 2765/254, total 3,019.

Yowapedal s3 v3 sells 1032/903, total 1,935.

Past seasons:
Euphonium s2 v6 adds 397 BDs, total 6,801.
v7, final volume, sells 5973/455, total 6,428. Series average: 7,476.

G Tekketsu s2 v8 sells 4651/583, total 5,234.
v8 sells 4439/579, total 5,018. Series average: 6,097. First season did 9,932.

Magic-kyun v6, final volume, sells 764/349, total 1,113. Series average: 1,891.

Gangsta v6, final volume, sells 543/383, total 926. The BD box also came out, with a grand total of… 73. Hardly seems like it was worth it. Since it’s concurrent with other volumes, it gets included in the average though. Series average: 1,567.
This is a summer 2015 show btw. What a mess of a release.

Days v9, final volume, sells 390/542, total 932. Series average: 1,098.

All Out v6 sells 312 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

YOI v6, final volume, adds 505 BDs, total 76,951. Series average: 67,938.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Suki ni Naru Movie sells 3211/3298, total 6,509.

Kekkai Sensen BD Box sells 2,380.

Hitman Reborn BD Box v3 sells 928.

Gundam W BD Box v1 sells 372.
BD Box v2 sells 473.
Note, I cannot find any retailer listings for these, so I’m assuming the same price as the previous sets (which sold over 5k each).

Garupan Movie adds 275 LE BDs, total 234,012. 55th time ranking. This thing never dies.

Danmachi BD Box adds 374, total 3,148 in wk4, meaning it added 359 in wks2-3.

  1. Anon says:

Sudden 3.0 rank, probably due to the latest news regarding Anno? Or there was -another- re-run?

    • something says:

I assumed it got a TV airing or something, but hadn’t looked into it. It’s just a couple hundred discs tho so it could as easily be some large retailer putting it on sale.

  2. BlackPoint says:

Just wow what a teirrible downfall for AoT sales, i guess thats what you get for waiting 4years and then ever crushing the fans with only 1cour even though 3rd season coming out next year but ye still idk. Luckily they most likely get good money for all the streamin and merchandise and manga sales great as usual, so i am not really worried for the future i still believe it can get a full adaptation.

    • Zhou says:

I’m a bit relieved v1 didn’t sell below 4k like it was projected to, but this is still disastrous, and I can only hope the industry can learn some lessons from it. Not only about taking too long to make a sequel, but also about the wrong-headed thinking that live-action movies and spin-offs are enough to keep a franchise hot while people wait for the next season. Still, I’m a big fan of the SnK anime and I want to see this staff adapt the entire manga, so the S3 announcement made me breath a huge sigh of relief.

      • Exukvera says:

Despite the abysmal drop in sales (also related to the expensive BD box-only package), it is still likely that SnK will be fully adapted due to the revenue from streaming and other licensing sources like trinkets, events and such. I wonder how big will be J.C. Staff’s misery should they fullfill their promise of bring back the Index/Railgun franchise after all these years of cooldown.

      • something says:

Yeah, I was glad S3 got announced so quickly. I’m still debating if I import s2 or not… in theory I liked it enough to, but I already have three imports this season and I’m trying to keep to about that number for the moment after going Flip Flappers crazy.

  3. David says:

    > Kekkai Sensen BD Box sells 2,380

Kekkai Sensen S1 sold around 17.2k average. @something Do you think the BD-box sales is good enough? I mean just look at poor AoT S1 BD-box sales (at least compare to its regular volumns sales) and you can totally tell AoT S2 will not live up to S1. Sorry if I ask a lot questions recently :<

    • something says:

This is probably fine. A lot of factors go into measuring how a BD box did, but for just repackaging a show that already released on BD the first time around and isn’t even that old, I wouldn’t call this a bad result. It’s probably going to be a bit short of the ¥100m list but we’ll see how wk2 does.

And questions are the main reason I have comments enabled on this site, so no worries.

      • Exukvera says:

Given that the first season was two years ago, Kekkai Sensen’s 2K BD Box sales is reasonable, but nothing like the 50 K/1 K drop seen in SnK season one. I’m also sad with Re: Creators’ low sales. It deserved much better.

  4. AnimePhoenix says:

I just want Starmyu to not drop too much with no event ticket. Season 2 was so good!

    • Ayumi says:

I’m glad Starmyu didn’t suffer a big drop. It looks like we are getting season 3 in 2019. (Hopefully 2018).

      • AnimePhoenix says:

        What? Was there an announcement?
I just want the non-event tickets to do OK…like, ~3.5k.

        • Ayumi says:

There hasn’t been an announcement yet seeing how the sales for season 2 (CD singles, albums, DVDs) are on par as the first season, there’s a high chance of a season 3 in a year or two.

  5. HighnessFudanshi says:

Good for Starmyu! Hope next volumes continue selling well.
The next weeks will be unusual for me without a boy idol anime. At least we will have Katsugeki Touken Ranbu, Hitorijime my Hero and probably Dive!! to watch.

    • Ayumi says:

I can’t wait for Hitorijime my Hero!

Dive!! seems like it’s going to be mostly eye candy (from the teasers). Hopefully we get to see relationships and connections.

  6. Dallas says:

I know this is pretty late to be asking, but how well did the Winter 2017 shows do?

Like I heard Kuzu no Honkai flopped pretty early on in April, looks as if it completely bombed out cause it’s not even listed.

Also, I heard Konosuba s2 did alright,, is that true?

    • something says:

From the Table of Contents you can view the data in a few different ways:

2017 Winter Seasonal Vol 1 Rankings
      2017 Total Sales by Volume
      2017 Total Average Sales, TV/ONA

Averages are the most important measure, but they’ll take the longest to be finalized because we need to wait for every volume to come out.

Note the data was last updated June 18. I’ll be bringing it all current again this weekend.

Konosuba is the best-selling Winter title, followed by Youjou Senki. The rest of the top 5 will bounce around a bit but in the end I’m guessing it’ll be Gintama. → ACCA → Gabdro (tho it may end up basically tied with Kobayashi-san). Overall it’s a very quiet season for disc sales when the best-selling show is looking to be just barely 10k or a bit below.

  7. something says:

Just FYI I don’t see the full list out yet, so it may not come out until tomorrow.

  8. Tuna says:

I need more starmyu such good non cg dancing and KENN. Great music.

I also want more kenka bancho otome, best punch sequences and also konoaru and totomaru are hot (KENN).

Love Rice gets s2 too though I hope it continues to have CookPad TV sequences, best part of the anime.

I dont know who would buy the anime though, it was most in need of at least double episode length.

  9. something says:

Updated with the full list. Kinda forgot to do this yesterday.

  10. something says:

I’d missed Kidou Senshi Gundam Tekketsu no Orphans Season 2 when I first posted this. Series average: 6,097
