Anime DVD/BD Sales in Japan

 

Winter update:
Konosuba s2 v1 sells 10069/1401, total 11,470. 9.2%/42.8% overestimated. No event ticket but it does have a little game packaged in like s1. This is better than s1v1wk1’s 9.5k but that volume had a significant tail and reached 13.6k. This volume has a shot of beating that though.

Gabdro v1 sells 2830/391, total 3,221. Event ticket. 55.5% under/36.2% overestimated. As expected, Stalker applying the high price penalty to the BD version resulted in heavy underestimation, just like BokuMachi (50% under). So you can probably expect Youjo to be upwards of 50% underestimated on BD as well. Gabdro ended up doing not as well as I’d hoped, but better than I’d feared. I hope it can hold onto a 3k average at least…

Demi-chan v1 sells 2049/638, total 2,687. Event ticket. 0.6%/16.2% overestimated.

Super Lovers s2 v1 sells 708/756, total 1,464. 27.6% under/6.9% overestimated. No event ticket this time, hence the much lower start I guess.

Masamune-kun v1 sells 953/226, total 1,179. Event ticket. 20.8/42.6% overestimated.

Urara v1 sells 885/174, total 1,059. Event ticket. 16.1/47.0% overestimated. Virtually a fuckin fractale (note: on BD, DVD ranked later), just like Flip Flappers (883). Expected, but still sucks, a lot.

Chaos;Child v0 sells 410 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 36.5% overestimated.
v1 sells 387 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 33.8% overestimated.

Hand Shakers v1 sells 380 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 208.9% underestimated, amusingly enough, for what that’s worth at such low numbers.

Idol Jihen v1 sells 213 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 41.2% overestimated. Event ticket.

Maid Dragon v1 adds 574 BDs, total 3,313.

Fall update:
Natsume s5 v4 sells 2780/1598, total 4,378.

Stray Dogs s2 v4 sells 1387/1310, total 2,697. Was trending above s1 for v1-2, but behind for 3+.

G Tekketsu v2 sells 4727/553, total 5,280.
v3 sells 4164/478, total 4,642. Yes, two volumes at once from here on out. And you can see the vol on vol drop even for two volumes released the same day.

Brave Witches v2 sells 4,111 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Mahoiku v4, final volume, sells 1,229 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,329.

Long Riders v3 sells 1,046 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Takkyuu Musume v4 sells 713 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Stella no Mahou v4, final volume, sells 626 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 670.

Fune wo Amu v2, final volume, sells 381 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 702.

Utapri s4 v3 adds 427 BDs, total 17,092.

Tourabu v4 adds 667/692, total 13,853.

Haikyuu s3 v4 adds 658/583, total 9,188. That brings the average back over 10k (10,214) but v5 is going to have to not drop at all on v4 if it wants to claim 10k average without waiting for mid-year rankings.

Euphonium 2 v4 adds 455 BDs, total 6,356.

Past seasons:
LL Sunshine v7, final volume, sells 46,156. Series average: 50,124.
v4 adds 498, total 35,250. Event tickets driving some small v3-4 increases lately, presumably from a well “I bought 5 of 7 vols for tickets, might as well buy the other two” bump.
v5 adds 4125, total 46,455.
v6 adds 3030, total 43,748. So far the event ticket announcements have added roughly 34k additional discs across v5-7 compared to what they’d do normally, an increase of 4.9k to the overall average. But with v7 starting the same as v2 (which got to 60k), there’s no telling how much more ticket boost is left.

Tsukiuta v7, final volume, sells 7416/4557, total 11,973. Event ticket. That’s a hell of a boost – the previous best-selling volume was 7,096 total. I suppose it goes without saying that this is the work of the event ticket. Series average: 7,196.

Macross Delta v9, final volume, sells 6237/989, total 7,226. Series average: 9,355.

Rewrite v7, final volume, sells 1,528 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,894.

Gangsta v3 sells 603/383, total 986. Yes, that Gangsta, the Summer 2015 show. It *finally* released v3, and as expected sales are way down. v3 won’t even reach half of v2. v2 was released in October 2015.

 
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Hidamari s4 BD Box sells 2,157.

Uchouten BD Box sells 1,686. Not huge, but pretty significant for a series that only averaged 2.3k.

World Break BD Box sells 249.
