Fall update:
G Tekketsu s2 v1 sells 5266/843, total 6,109. 28.4/33.5% overestimated. If you treat it like v10 of an ongoing 18 vol release then this is about right, though sometimes the first volume of a second split cour (or, split four cour in this case) gets a bump. I guess there was no bonus in it.
Brave Witches v1 sells 4611/432, total 5,043. 20.7/52.5% overestimated. As expected, we’re looking at a huge drop from s1-2, even ignoring their insane BD box sales. Won’t do half of what either of those seasons sold. And yet, in today’s market it’s hard to consider 5k bad… well, that’s where we are.
YOI v3 sells 33181/12965, total 46,146. A very good hold considering there’s no event ticket this volume, and it’ll pass 50k with ease. While it’ll be the best-averaging series of 2016 by far if we look at non-ticket volume averages, I don’t think even this strong hold will keep pace with five LL event tickets.
v2 adds 650 BDs, total 63,663.
v1 adds 475 BDs, total 71,470.
Tourabu v3 sells 7644/6287, total 13,931. I’d say it’s a decent non-ticket hold but v2 ticket vol already had a sizable drop from v1 ticket vol so it’d middling. if the rest of the volumes sell like this it could do about 16k.
Haikyuu s3 v3 sells 4800/3867, total 8,667. Figure it adds 1k next week and that leaves it only 5.6% below v2.
Natsume s5 v3 sells 2889/1650, total 4,539.
ViVid Strike v3 sells 3720/382, total 4,102. With a decent wk2 should be very close to v2.
Izetta v3 sells 1,944. BD-only release.
Show By Rock s2 v3 sells 1,792 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Stray Dogs s2 v3 sells 1483/1450, total 2,933. Unless it has a big wk2, it looks like this is where s2 finally dips below s2.
www.Working v4 sells 1508/410, total 1,918.
Long Riders v2 sells 1,229 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Mahoiku v3 sells 1,177 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Takkyuu Musume v3 sells 779 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Lostorage v3 sells 634 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Stella no Mahou v3 sells 614 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Girlish Number v3 sells 531 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
All Out v2 sells 412 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Utapri s4 v2 adds 486/438, total 43,659.
Euphonium s2 v3 adds 511 BDs, total 6,436.
Summer update:
LL Sunshine v6 sells 23,884. It’s too soon for the v5-7 concert event ticket announcement to show up, but I’d expect this and v5 to add tens of thousands over the coming weeks, and v7 to open well over 40k.
v5 adds 627, total 32,663.
New Game v6, final volume, sells 4404/511, total 4,915. Series average: 5,769. Will be a little over 5.8k if BDs get a wk2.
Tsukiuta v6 sells 2932/1701, total 4,633.
Mob Psycho v6, final volume, sells 2451/1253, total 3,704. Series average: 4,749.
Masou Gakuen v6, final volume, sells 2143/715, total 2,858. Series average: 3,629.
Illya s4 v6, final volume, sells 2,591 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 3,382.
Amanchu v6 sells 2,107. BD-only release.
Servamp v6, final volume, sells 778/1089, total 1,867. Series average: 2,901.
Rewrite v6 sells 1,539 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Konobi v6, final volume, sells 1,143 BDs. DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,327.
Qualidea Code v6, final volume, sells 811 BDs. DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,235.
Souma s2 v6 sells 780. Singles are BD-only, DVD box was released in November.
Ange Vierge v3, final volume, sells 528 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 816.
91Days v5 sells 434 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
ReLIFE v7, final volume, sells 430 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 410.
Past seasons:
Re:Zero v9, final volume, sells 7244/1035, total 8,279. Series average: 10,635. And that’s the only Spring 2016 10k seller.
Delta v8 sells 5583/781, total 6,364.
Jojo pt4 v9 sells 5147/1122, total 6,269. This season is 13 volumes so there’s a ways to go yet. Currently 8k average.
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Zaregoto v4 sells 11036/2016, total 13,052. It hasn’t *quite* leveled off, but could end up less than 0% down on v3 at least.
Yuyushiki OVA sells 7814/653, total 8,467. It’s overestimated like I expected, but did slightly better than I thought. Importantly, it’s out of stock as hell everywhere (estimated weeks or months restock) so it’s possible it has enough tail to reach 10k, which would be amazing. The best-selling volume of the TV series sold 4k.
planetarian Movie sells 4878/699 LE/RE BDs, total 5,577. BD-only release.
Strike Witches BD Box sells 4,583. This has become simply mind-boggling. No matter how many times this gets released it gets fantastic sales. Now this box included s1, s2, OVA and movie but it marks the fourth time s1 has been released on a box and third time for s2. This brings the lifetime singles + boxes sales of those seasons to:
S1: 13,789 + 18,284 = 32,073
S2: 14,327 + 12,128 = 26,455
Which is just remarkable. s1 is now has the third highest grossing BD boxes ever for a one cour show, behind only Haruhi and Bakemonogatari.
Tenchi s4 v2 sells 5,866.
orange Movie sells 445/312, total 757.
Isshukan Friends BD Box sells 359.

Still no full list available this week. Not sure what the hold-up is.
When are going to add YoI to the 10k+ list? After this week its hard to see how its going to shift position much. Its pretty much secured a 50-60k average at this point. I dont see how it misses it with the 3rd volume likely going to 55k (or higher). (The three would have to finish at around 35k each to get 50k average which seems obviously unlikely at this point)
I usually wait until at least one non-ticket volume is out, so yeah it’ll go up there the next time I do the Ranking Summary update. Which should be this weekend, provided this week’s full list ever comes out.
I think it’s better if you add it when Volume 4 is out right?
Average is 60k right now, by v4’s first week maybe it’ll be about 57-58k. Not a huge difference either way.
Still nothing. Pretty annoying.
Here we go: http://pastebin.com/WdzSGMzF
I’ll do the post a little later.
Oh, forgot to mention, but full post is up.
Something, sorry to be posting this so late but does extra content boost DVD/BD sales? (Evil) Avex released a video saying volume 6 of YOI will show one of the main character’s (Yuri P) exhibition skate and the fandom “exploded”. The western fandom anyway. Don’t know if it affect sales in Japan, but was wondering if there was a precedent for added content to increase sales?
Well, I don’t know for how much it’ll count but I saw volume 6 jump into the top 100 on Amazon Stalker after the video, so there’s that!
I think Yoi (or 女向け in general) is very Animate heavy so amazon ranking is not that relevant. I meant LLS vol 5 and 6 were dominating amazon ranking but Yoi vol 3 and 4 still sold better. But rest assured because yoi dominates animate and hmv daily ranking too. to be honest I really want LLS to be the best selling anime in 2016, yoi is just not my cup of tea but I’m happy yoi selling that much without event ticket. MAPPA saves the anime industry :3
YOI still ranked extremely well at Amazon, so Amazon does matter for it. It’s just that it was *SO* dominant at Animate that estimates based on Amazon were still very short of reality. So it matters, just not as much as Animate (definitely more than HMV tho!).
There are titles for which Amazon is very minor, Utapri being a great example. A huge portion of sales go to Animate there, much more than YOI. Amazon didn’t even get Utapri listed until weeks after Animate did. I think Animate might have some timed exclusivity on that one? Tho it may have been at other shops just as soon.
Added content definitely can increase sales – a lot. Just depends what the content is. Here’s what I wrote on curioucat:
“Not as much as an actual full OVA episode, but it’ll help a bit. Three of the four versions of v6 have jumped back into the Amazon JP Top 100, ranked #34/64/86.
Unless we see it rise further and hold there for a while, I’d go with a conservative guess that this won’t significantly increase sales above v3-5 but it might reduce or even eliminate the usual volume on volume drop, which would be good for YOI’s consistency.”
They’ve dropped back down a bit since then, so I don’t think it’s going to be a really significant boost. More on the “limit the drop” than “markedly increase sales” end. But it’ll still help a bit.
Thank you something and animephoenix! Good to know. Hope it sells really well. Just realized I put this comment in an old post. Doh me
