Fall update:
WWW.Working v1 sells 3286/320 BDs, 1771/294 DVDs, total 5,671. 17.7% over/6.3% underestimated on BD, 37.1/27.4% overestimated on DVD. This one will drop a lot. Not an event ticket, but includes ep 1 of the show plus footage of the ワグナリア~初夏の大大大大感謝祭~ event from May of this year. v2+ are estimated much lower.

Keijo v1 sells 715/145, total 860. 5.8%/45.5% overestimated. So there’s the first of many bombs for shows I’m importing this season.

Summer update:
LL Sunshine v3 sells 23249/83 LE/RE, total 23,249. Same level of underestimation as v1 (33% vs 34%) so can probably expect the same for v4. Not sure how those v5-7 tickets will shake out.
v2 adds 420, total 58,962.

Tsuikuta v3 sells 3180/1866, total 5,046. Pretty significant increase on just under 4k wk1 for v2 (though v2 had a fairly hefty wk2).

New Game v3 sells 4114/477, total 4,591. Event tickets ended, so it dropped from 5.5k v2wk1. Too bad v2 only ranked twice. We got 5 weeks worth out of v1 in the end. Still crossing my fingers this can average 5k…

Mob Psycho v3 sells 2660/1385, total 4,045. Bit of a drop from the event tickets running out, 5.1k wk1 last time.

Masou Gakuen v3 sells 2244/701, total 2,945.

Dangan Ronpa 3 v3 sells 2,711. This is the third of 4 BD boxes. DVDs are singles split between Mirai and Zetsubou, and none of those have ranked.

Illya s4 v3 sells 2,250 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Servamp v3 sells 668/1033, total 1,701. This one has gone over a cliff. 5,204 → 3,388 → 1,701.

Rewrite v3 sells 1,549 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Active Raid s2 v2 sells 1,522 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Konobi v3 sells 1,137 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Qualidea v3 sells 835/300, total 1,135.

Souma s2 v3 BD sells 772.
DVD box sells 567. This is the weird release that’s 7 BD singles and 1 DVD box, with the box coming out alongside BD single 3 (which hasn’t made the prelims). I guess this means the v1 total is 567 DVD boxes + 858 BD v1 = 1,425 but it’s not like the two releases are comparable. Usually I do box + avg of equivalent content in singles but in this case that’d be avg of all the singles so then v1 would just be the same as the overall series average.

ReLIFE v4 sells 378 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Past seasons:
Nanoha ViVid sells 2077/1767/1037, total 4,881. 109% under/136.2% under/46.3% overestimated. Hell, better than I expected, since I was skeptical it’d beat 3k. The cheaper RE disc was overestimated about double on Amazon, but the LEs were each *under*estimated double. Being split across three is going to be hell on this series’ ability to rank multiple weeks but if the two LEs can get a little bit next week it’ll end well clear of over 5k. Now this is nothing compared to the previous TV series but for a spinoff, and for something that took so incredibly long to come out… well. It’s something…? I really hope ViVid Strike is heavily underestimated too.

Ansakyou Kagaijugyou-hen sells 258/267, total 525. One-shot release of some ONAs from Spring 2016. Stalker didn’t cover it, so no estimates.

Re:Zero v6 sells 6635/865, total 7,500. First thing we’ve seen approaching a notable decline for this series, second lowest wk1 since v1. Should still cross 8k next week, though if the rest continue at about this pace the yearlies will have more work to do (possibly more than they can do) to get the average over 10k.

Haifuri v6, final volume, sells 5735/919, total 6,654. Series average: 7,754. Should end a bit above 7.8k. Pretty consistent series with all vol on vol drops under 10% and last vol less than 25% off v1.

Macross Delta v5 sells 5779/848, total 6,627. Barring more event tickets, I think this one’s 10k chances are officially over considering there’s four volumes to go and they should all be sub-8k at this rate.

Jojo Pt 4 v6 sells 5289/1163, total 6,452.

Stray Dogs v6, final volume, sells 1455/2158, total 3,613. Series average: 4,926. wk2 will put it over 5k. v7-12 will counted as season two, as it’s split cour.

Flying Witch v6, final volume, sells 2844/339, total 3,183. Small increase over v4wk1 and v5wk1. Series average: 3,470. A wk2 for v6 will get it over 3.5k. I shouldn’t be excited over average-at-best sales like this, but given how my other shows sell… well, it’s something at least. Very consistent show, never dropping more than 5.7% vol to vol and assuming v6 adds about 300 next week, lower vol is less than 15% off highest vol.

Asterisk s2 v6, final volume, sells 1392/352, total 1,744. Series average: 1,874. 1st cour averaged 2,173 so this performed just like 12 straight discs (which is how it was released).

Anne Happy v6, final volume, sells 947 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,106[i]. Sadness.

[x]Hundred[/x] v6, final volume, sells [x]778[/x] BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: [i]1,360[i].

[x]Tanaka-kun[/x] v6 sells [x]555[/x] BDs, DVDs do not rank.

[x]Bakuon[/x] v6, final volume, adds 299 BDs, total [x]2,085[/x]. Series average: [i]2,302.

Netoge v6, final volume, adds 318 BDs, total 1,780. Series average: 2,020.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Strike the Blood II OVA v1 sells 7154/1072, total 8,226. Considering the first OVA had an event ticket and this doesn’t, not bad. This is already better than any volume of the TV series. This series continues to maintain decent legs.

G Gundam BD Box v2 sells 3,195. First did 3,606 so box avg is 3,401.

Shirobako BD Box v1 sells 2,688.

Kinmosa BD Box sells 1,921. Pretty decent for a 6.7k seller.

Zegapain ADP Recap Movie sells 1,591 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

FLCL BD Box sells 867. The first BD box in 2010 sold 4,879 so the total is now 5,746 in BD boxes.

Furuba BD Box sells 674.

Moribito BD Box sells 120. The first BD box in 2012 sold 1,726 so the total is now 1,846 in BD Boxes.

Zaregoto v1 adds 326 BDs, total 20,771.

Yep, looks like Aqours may forever be in μ’s’ shadow, unless the 1st live in February and/or the 2nd Season has anything to say about this.

  2. Avatar Gintoki_KotAro says:

re:zero v6 maybe will reach 8.2k before gets out of the list, and hopefully reach 9k or 9.5k with yearly list even if i think it’s a little hard

  3. Avatar Exukvera says:

So Keijo did bomb. I’m sad there will be no more buttslinging action after this season ends.
On the other hand, Flying Witch soared 1K over the Manabi line, could this be a sign that a second season is possible?

  4. Avatar FinalFan says:

Thank you for the complete numbers for various Nanoha Vivid releases.

Hope Vivid Strike! will do something decent.

  5. Avatar BlackPoint says:

Ugh really sad to see thoose Keijo sells, its really one of the better ecchi anime we had recently and deserves much better. Oh but well lately nothin really sells except for some fujoshi, idol stuff. So re:zero doing 9k~10k for its genre is pretty good, guess male fanbase doesnt like buying much anymore discs and we are happy enough with just streams and perhaps they buys the discs later on once the prices drop or waiting for the box releases or smth like that.

    Kinmosa BD Box sells 1,921
Also pretty nice sells for this one wish they would make another season really loved the 2nd season was in my opinion better then 1st season :)

  6. Avatar Anon says:

Decent sales for Shirobako box v1. I expected a smaller number considering how fucking expensive both boxes are.

  7. Avatar makotachi says:

Oh, ouch. That drop for LL Sunshine. I suppose it can’t be helped. It’s only their first season and first few CDs though. I’m sure they’ll be able to at least catch a little bit up to the previous girls. That one volume of LL is still selling more than a lot of shows combined so, not too bad!

  8. Avatar FreFre says:

Vol.6 of Re:Zero was released on Friday and almost all previous ones were on Wednesday. Could it be the reason of this drop? Basically it had 2 days less of sales and the next week sales should be bigger than usual. Probably same for LL, Delta and other shows which have significant drop this week compared to previous volumes.

    • something something says:

At most this might drive a few hundred additional discs next week, but possibly not even that. There’s still months of preorders + a full weekend post-release counted in these numbers either way. Two extra weekdays wouldn’t account for much. Most of your sales come from 1) pre-release day, when preorders ship, 2) release day, when people can pick it up at B&M or some other online retailers ship, and 3) the weekend, when people who aren’t preordering or buying day 1 have time to head out to a shop and pick it up. A Friday release still covers all three of those.

(One time it can theoretically have an effect is if stock levels were wonky and a restock gets pushed into Monday or Tuesday of wk2, rather than Saturday or Sunday of wk1.)

Sometimes you do see wk2s that are bigger than previous volumes but it’s hard to isolate a cause.

  9. Avatar Kuro says:

A bit worried for New Game!,maybe vol 3 can get 5k average this time but not sure vol 4 and 5 can make it,hopefully vol 6 contain with OVA can make sale boots.

    • something something says:

I know nice round milestones are arbitrary but man I really want 5k because every other Houbunsha Manga Time adaptation to reach 5k except A Channel got a TV series sequel, while none of those below 5k did.

Still, with A Channel as an exception there’s no reason New Game couldn’t be another exception… =/

  10. Avatar ddv says:

Do you have any info on Gochiusa event BD Rabbit House Tea Party 2016? Should’ve sold around 5000 based on Stalker.

    • something something says:

I usually do live event stuff with the full list but let’s see… 3,883 BDs, DVDs didn’t rank (so sub-631). So a bit overestimated. Might get DVDs in the full list.

  11. Avatar Shazam says:

I am surprised to see this number from Strike the Blood given that previous OVAs doubled the first season’s average.I expected the same 10k number or something. But still its good as we know Discs contain a single episode OVA and given how bad ecchi harem have started to sell from 2015 onwards.Keijo is anonymous. Also i didn’t like Re Zero that much as it was same slash and gore trying to make the audience feel sympathetic towards characters without actual character development like Akame ga Kill and others.Oops i got off track but i didn’t want it to sell good and there is a huge drop int its LN’s sales which makes me happy.

    • something something says:

“I am surprised to see this number from Strike the Blood given that previous OVAs doubled the first season’s average.I expected the same 10k number or something.”

First OVA had an event ticket in both volumes. This one does not. It’ll still beat out the TV series average which is impressive.

“Oops i got off track but i didn’t want it to sell good and there is a huge drop int its LN’s sales which makes me happy.”

For Re:Zero? It saw a huge novel boost as far as I know, not a drop. Also this isn’t the kind of site where we want people commenting about being happy about something doing poorly (tho I don’t see how it did in this case). Focus on the stuff you like, not dislike.

      • Avatar TasteyCookie says:

You definitely didn’t see wrong. The LN’s sold 1,007,381 copies this year which makes it the 4th highest selling LN series of 2016. With fairly good BD sales and fantastic merch sales as well, the prospects for season 2 look great! Man I’m also super interested to see the god tier sales of “Your Name” when it finally gets released. Could very well break records if the Box Office is any indication.

  13. Avatar TasteyCookie says:

As poorly as Keijo did (even though it was expected… RIP sequel) I would bet money that it sells 5x that amount over seas. It’s been very highly watched on Crunchyroll, even the highest watched new show in several states and European countries.

Too bad it doesn’t matter much to the Japanese production companies concerning making a sequel, as the money comes in way later. But at least they should make most of their money back.

    • something something says:

Considering it’ll also cost about 8-10x less, even 5x would be the least they should hope for lol. This is why MSRP is so important and super cheap R1 prices absolutely require higher raw volume to make at all similar amounts of money. selling 1000 avg * 6 singles * ¥7000 (at MSRP or 27% off max) in Japan and selling 1000 * 1 boxset * $60 (slashed down online to like $40) R1 releases are worlds apart.

For a title like Keijo, I’d assume the up-front flat license fee and streaming revenues are probably more important than a cut of per-disc sales.
