Anime DVD/BD Sales in Japan

 

Summer update:
91Days v1 sells 623/573, total 1,196. Event ticket. 1.4/21.7% overestimated.

Ange Vierge v1 sells 786/159, total 945. 71.6%/80.7% underestimated. Crushed its estimates, w-whoo… …;_; Well I didn’t expect it to do much of anything but it still sucks to see that number. I hope people are playing the mobage. ;_;

LL Sunshine v2 sells 45,815. BD-only release, event ticket. Down 31.5% on v1wk1.
v1 adds 1645, total 77,588.

B-Project v3 sells 2782/3055, total 5,837. Wooooah, I expected a drop but this just dropped off a cliff. 13.5k > 11.1k > 5.8k wk1s for v1-2. Suddenly this goes from a safe 10k lock to being a total toss-up. All depends on wk2+ now, and there’s no extended ranking to help it. We may seriously be down to only one 10k show between Spring and Summer combined.

New Game! v2 sells 4923/584, total 5,507. Down 14.7% on v1wk1. Ehhh, this is an event ticket volume too, so if the tail is as weak as it was with v1… yeah I’m honestly skeptical of even a 5k average.

Mob Psycho v2 sells 3240/1836, total 5,076. Down 10.1% on v1wk1.

Tsukiuta v2 sells 2470/1505, total 3,975. Down 11.0% on v1wk1.

Masou Gakuen v2 sells 2410/721, total 3,131. Down 15.7% on v1wk1.

Servamp v2 sells 1107/1911, total 3,018. Down 34.8% on v1wk1.

Dangan Ronpa 3 v2 sells 3,017. This is the combined Zetsubou/Mirai BD release. The separate DVDs didn’t rank this time either, unsurprisingly (everyone is going to want the combined BD releases).

Illya 3rei v2 sells 2,588 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 17.3% on v1wk1.

Amanchu v2 sells 2,271. BD-onl release. Down 11.2% on v1wk1. v1 never even got a wk2, RIP ;_;

Rewrite v2 sells 1,656 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 21.0% on v1wk1 (9.0% if just comparing BD to BD).

Konobi v2 sells 1,220 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 17.5% on v1wk1 (9.5% if just comparing BD to BD).

Qualidea v2 sells 890/294, total 1,184. Down 22.9% on v1wk1.

Souma s2 v2 sells 810 BDs. DVDs are being sold in a one-shot box in November. Down 5.6% on v1wk1.

ReLIFE v3 sells 392 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Alderamin v2 sells 271 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 7.2% on v1wk1.

Hatsukoi Monster v2 sells 243 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 80.7% on v1wk1 (67.3% if just comparing BD to BD). That is a hell of a drop.

Spring update:
Re:Zero v5 sells 7860/1067, total 8,927. For the first time Re:Zero didn’t increase on the previous volume’s wk1… but it was also only 180 down. 10k is still unlikely without a modest yearly list boost, but it’s sure making a serious run at coming very close.

Macross Delta v4 sells 7234/1195, total 8,429. Event ticket, though closer to the non-ticket v2 than the previous ticket v3. Still skeptical of a 10k average without a fourth ticket. Maybe even with.

Haifuri v5 sells 5766/961, total 6,727.

Jojo pt 4 v5 sells 5447/1219, total 6,666.

Kabaneri v3, final volume, sells 4514/586, total 5,100. Series average: 6,115. Well, above average but not a hit. Counts as a success in these dark times, I guess.

Stray Dogs v5 sells 1504/1527, total 3,031.

Asterisk s2 v5 sells 1417/367, total 1,784.

Tanaka-kun v5 sells 659/349, total 1,008.

Anne Happy v5 sells 903 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Hundred v5 sells 798 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Sakamoto v5, final volume, sells 365 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 407.

Flying Witch v5 adds 335 BDs, total 3,283.

Bakuon v5 adds 252 BDs, total 3,283.

Super Lovers v5, final volume, adds 304 BDs, total 2,045. Series average: 2,540.

Netoge v5, adds 297 BDs, total 1,745.

 
Past seasons:
Ansakyou v8, final volume, sells 565/654, total 1,219. Series average: 1,322. Down almost exactly by half from s1’s 2,627.

Pandora v6, final volume, sells 648 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 696.

 
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Conan Junkoku no Nightmare Movie sells 25601/3554 BDs, 23733/8772 DVDs, total 61,660.

Zaregoto v1 sells 13353/2910, total 16,263. I figure this seems good! It’s a half price disc (also one ep discs, so it should be), so you need to figure that in, but considering Nisio’s name isn’t an instant ticket to sales (Medaka did nothing, Katanagatari was a modest 8.7k v1/7.5k average, Monogatari is down to about a third of its old peak) and this volume doesn’t seem to have an event ticket, this seems strong to me. If sales keep up it’ll be easily over 10k. Since it’s not airing on TV I’m not going to be including it in any of the usual lists, but I am tracking it on my spreadsheet as an OVA. So it’ll at least appear as an average on the OVAs chart of the Quick View page.

Zutto Mae sells 5284/5991, total 11,275. Not overly impressive but way ahead of estimates (53/98% underestimated) and probably not bad considering it’s not exactly aimed at a big anime-buying population (i.e. the teenage girls into Honeyworks’ Vocaloid stuff).

Tiger & Bunny BD Box sells 3,802. Honestly would have expected more from a series that sold 28,551 originally. Then again it has been five years.

Kurobas Winter Cup v2 sells 2015/1711, total 3,726.

Maimai Shinko to Sen-nen no Mahou sells 487 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Wixoss s2 BD Box sells 172.
