Summer update:
Battery v1 sells 359/1019, total 1,378. 25.1/55.8% underestimated. Event ticket.
orange v1 sells 224 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Can’t calculate over/underestimation because Stalker didn’t track the non-Amazon-exclusive version of v1 or v2 for whatever reason.
B-Project v1 adds 306/482, total 16,278.
Arslan s2 v1 adds 177 BDs, total 3,150.
Mononokean v1 adds 289 DVDs, total 2,421.
Spring update:
Luluco sells 1,880 as a BD-only release. 41.7% overestimated. One-shot, so series average: 1,880. Being able to cross 2k in wk2 is fine for a short, especially a slightly more expensive one (¥8800 msrp) but this was pretty massively overestimated. I expected that to some degree but thought it’d at least do 2k wk1.
HeroAca v4 sells 1515/1003, total 2,518.
Sansha Sanyou v4 sells 1613/206, total 1,819. Two volumes to go, trying to hold onto a 2k average.
Re:Zero v3 adds 266 BDs, total 9,692. Again, note that if there’s a noticeable finale bump we’ll see it next week, not this week.
Past seasons:
Haikyuu!! s2 v9, final volume, sells 5655/4581, total 10,236. Series average: 14,220. Should end around 14.4-14.6k or so with limited additions in the yearlies. Being split across BD and DVD almost evenly makes it harder to make the yearlies so I don’t think it’ll add a lot.
Divine Gate v6, final volume, sells 478/552, total 1,030. Series average: 1,323.
World Trigger v19 sells 669/314, total 983.
Osomatsu-san v8, final volume, adds 229/360, total 43,262. Series average: 64,769.
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Majestic Prince BD Box sells 1,082.
Garupan Movie adds 357 LE BDs, total 224,304. We may, after a very very long time, finally be approaching a point where there’s no Garupan in the top 100 for a while. Until that second fandisc comes out.
Euphonium movie adds 555 BDs, total 5,955.

Orange didn’t make the top !! ;_;
re:zero After finished, his volumes no longer get a boost /:
This period ends on the day Re:Zero aired its last episode, so we won’t see any boost until next week. But the final episode did give the earlier volumes some boost. v1 is almost back in the top 100 and 2-3 are hanging out around 150. It won’t add a ton but it may be enough to make the top 100.
Ouch for Battery, ouch for Orange.
Man Luluco was so overestimated. Why is that happened?
Now I am worrying about Planetarian. Do you think it will sell around projected estimation?
Also do you notice fujoshi shows are often underestimated.
Something has happened. Male otaku are not buying anymore. Probably moved onto mobage.
“Man Luluco was so overestimated. Why is that happened?”
Means that most of its buyers bought from Amazon. The estimates are based on Amazon, so if Amazon gets an unusually large percentage of the sales, the estimates will be exaggerated.
“Now I am worrying about Planetarian. Do you think it will sell around projected estimation?”
Hard to say. I think the estimate is in the right ballpark, but its rankings outside of Amazon are only “decent”. Maybe it’ll be a little overestimated? 5k instead of 6k…?
“Also do you notice fujoshi shows are often underestimated.”
Yes, women buy a lot of their anime at Animate rather than Amazon. So discs rank less well on Amazon, and thus get lower estimates, but sell a lot at Animate.
“Means that most of its buyers bought from Amazon. The estimates are based on Amazon, so if Amazon gets an unusually large percentage of the sales, the estimates will be exaggerated.”
You mean the Amazon edition?
I just mean any version bought from Amazon. Whether it’s the Amazon-exclusive edition or the normal LE that’s also available at Amazon, the estimates are based on all Amazon orders (as reflected in the hourly DVD/BD rankings).
Because it wasn’t selling much at storefront.
Probably.
Fujoshi shows were always underestimated because they often buy at Animate and not amazon unlike male otaku.
Many different factors we can’t be sure of.
Haikyuu finishing off real strong and B-Pro getting a nice 3rd week. Seeing Luluco sell a bit is really nice too. I’m happy for it!
How did Macross Delta v1 and v2 do? I’m tracking its progress.
From the Table of Contents link up top, you can access the Vol 1, Per-volume, and Averages rankings. They’re updated as of last weekend (so not including yesterday’s new data yet). For the most up to date information, just check the weekly ranking posts and find the latest mention of it.
Vol. 1 is currently at 13,407 (11645 BD + 1753 DVD) after ranking 6 times. It’s boosted by an event ticket application.
Vol. 2 is currently at 9,302 (8126 BD + 1176 DVD) after ranking 3 times.
Vol. 3 should rise due to a new event ticket application being included. Maybe it’ll reach around 12k total.
Thanks. I checked that Amazon rank stalker page and preorders for Delta are at around 7k units. I hope numbers go higher than that in the final tally.
I’m wondering if the fujoshi contingent will ever embrace BD. Those B-pro numbers seem so off to me lol. DVD are cheaper right? That’s the only reason I can see that they still buy DVD, it’s not like BD players are expensive anymore.
Women in general (not just fujoshi) are increasingly adopting BD, but yes it is a slow process. I’d guesstimate that in aggregate shows aimed at women are over the 50% BD mark at this point, but they’re certainly not in any rush to hit the 70-90% numbers most shows aimed at men end up with.
Also, sometimes event ticket volumes see a proportionally bigger increase on DVD than BD, because if you just want the ticket, the cheaper DVD is a more attractive option. Hence why DVDs drop harder than BDs once tickets stop. I’m guessing later B-Project volumes will be majority DVD still, but not as strongly skewed.
Updated for the full list. I’ll check the per-series ranking tonight but doubt it’ll add much of anything.
Edit: Checked, nothing to add.
>only v3 managed to rank in full list
Yeah, the hype died. After watching the final episode I don’t think boost will be big – and stalker seems to prove it as v1-3 are merely hanging around #150. Maybe if threshold is low…
I want another interesting show to follow sales-wise, they’re so rare nowadays! ;_;
Yeah Re:Zero is not the series I’m most interested in this year but it’s one of the few that’s been interesting to track (or, well, was, going to look pretty standard from here on out). Kinda like how I find tracking Kimi no Na wa.’s box office interesting even though I have no interest in watching it.
So far no show I’ve imported this year has done well, and my “best hope” is that New Game manages a not-very-exceptional 5k. So anything that’s even vaguely interesting sales-wise is worth keeping an eye on.
Damn it’s sad to see orange to sell so bad, well what did i expect from shoujo anime
It’s getting a ‘sequel’ movie (though time will tell how much actual new animation was done) in November! The manga sold well. It had a live action adaptation. Don’t cry for Orange, it did very well overall. For shoujo manga adaptations especially, disc sales are not an indication of success or failure.
