Spring update:
HeroAca v3 sells 1700/1184, total 2,884.

Super Lovers v3 sells 906/915, total 1,821.

Sansan v3 sells 1,721 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Re:Zero v1 adds 278 BDs, total 11,216.
v2 adds 370 BDs, total 9,909.

Winter update:
PSO2A v6, final volume, sells 1590/529 BDs, 2764/466 DVDs, total 5,349. Already the best selling volume in this highly erratic release that was undoubtedly driven entirely by extras. Volume totals ranked 6 > 5 > 1 > 3 > 4 > 2. If v1 didn’t have the extended rankings it would have gone 6 > 5 > 3 > 4 > 2 > 1, almost the exact opposite of the usual 1 > 6 progression. But only v1 got a wk2+ due to the loss of the extended rankings right after v2 came out. Series average: 4,112, could be closer to 4.5k or even 5k if we had the extendeds, I think.

Grmigar v6, final volume, sells 2971/389, total 3,360. Series average: 3,960.

Dagashi Kashi v6, final volume, sells 1,111 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,559.

Past seasons:
Haikyuu s2 v8 sells 5632/4506, total 10,138. Still just barely managing 10k wk1s.

Osomatsu-san v7 adds 385 DVDs, total 43,405.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Chu2koi s2 BD Box sells 719.

Garupan Movie adds 520 BDs, total 222,623.

Kizumonogatari adds 1100/225 BDs, 351 DVDs, total 48,699.

High Speed adds 259/396, total 29,979 in wk5. This means DVDs in wk4 were 201.

Persona 3 Movie 4 adds 569 BDs, total 22,293.

  1. BlackPoint says:

And after long weeks re:zero didnt make it on the list but well i think v2 gonna sell around 300~350 while v1 might add another 150~200 again. Surprised though about the PSO2 sells so high probably due thoose extras that were mentioned maybe some premium stuff for the game or what were thoose extras about anyone knows?

    • Anon says:

Re:Zero’s v1, v2 and v3 will most likely keep ranking until the final bump at the end of the show and v4 will come out shortly after.
v1 slowed down a bit in the last few weeks but as long as the thresholds remain relatively low it might keep adding a few discs here and there. There’s also the thing that if you buy all the volumes you’ll be participating for a raffle for the official release of the AU spinoff where Rem and Subaru elope. I doubt it’ll have a big impact on the final numbers but riding Rem’s popularity might be a good idea in the end (should have made it an OVA though).

I’m excited for next week’s report with v3 being the first one without an event ticket.

      • Lloyd says:

I just looked at stalker and the first 6 volumes are within the top 200 again. V4 also seems to get its first huge bump.

The estimations for v3 look good. It’s about 1.5k higher than v2. I guess from now on the volumes become more and more front-loaded while the tail keeps getting shorter. Regardless of that it seems like we won’t see a really big ticket drop. V4 also shapes up to have a really good estimate.

Oh and let’s hope that there finally won’t be any stock issues.

        • Progeusz says:

Yeah, it’s quite crazy. If it follows the trend of slight overestimation, the wk1 of v3 should manage to end up over 9000. Sure, the tail will be shorter but with such a wk1 we can talk about basically no drop and an impressive consistency.

          • Lloyd says:

            Nice trivia.

This week, Re:Zero volume 1 overtook the first volumes of both overlord and danmachi to become the biggest anime boost on the weekly sales for a single volume since No Game No Life in Spring 2014.

            • something says:

I haven’t been following the novels, what’s the boost been like overall? I assume if it has the biggest v1 bump since NGNL it likely has one of the biggest overall bumps as well?

              • Lloyd says:

For the novels? I think it was in the midst of July when the news came in that more than 1 million copies were sold ever since the anime has started airing.

It was ranked the as the 10th best selling novel series for the first half of 2016 ( November 2015 – End of May 2016 ) with almost 300k I believe. Given that the anime has only aired for about 2 months at that time and only for 1/3 of the countable timespan this was already huge. Just like in BD/DVD sales it really started to pick up with the start of June and it was also around this time that the 500k mark was broken. If it sells like that for another month and then profits a lot of the post anime boost which can last even 6 months later ( evidential with KonoSuba ) it can probably make the 1.25-1.5 million copies. With that it’s likely to surpass KonoSuba and be the best selling novel for the second half of 2016.

On top of that volume 9 releases shortly after the anime and Tappei ( Author ) is expected to return to his 1-2 month volume release pace which should result in a long lasting tail and a really fast possible sequel.

                • JTaicho says:

The whole “boost” calculation is muddled though. It all depends on how you calculate the boost. In fact Re: Zero V1 is still below Overlord V1 in actual “boost” sales. Re:Zero V1 started at 57K ->164K = 107K “boost”. Overlord V1 started at 40K ->150K = 110K “boost”. Re: Zero will need another week to beat the “boost” part even though it has overall more sales now. Still overall, Danmachi, Overlord, Konosuba, and NGNL are still above on a combined volume avg basis. Though a big part of that is Re: Zero v3-v8 are like MIA. Not sure why they are still 40-70K range while V1-V2 are 150K avg. Since I haven’t read Re:Zero, does the story get bad or something after vol 2 and no one wants to read it? I find it odd that the later volumes are not getting the same love. The other series all got pretty even boost across their published volumes.

On the future of Konosuba, I think it will beat Re:Zero and Overlord on the boost it will get with S2 in Jan 2017. It’s actually amazing it got such a boost off a 10 ep season alone at the beginning of the year with QUALITY animation too boot. It had much less time to “boost” it compared to Re:Zero.

Then more Danmachi is incoming too, but the spin-off novel. Still, it should still get a boost whenever it comes out. And I prey for more NGNL in the near future.

                  • hpulley says:

With the format of Re:Zero the Japanese fans who are new, introduced to it by the anime, are preferring to read along or just behind the anime rather than getting ahead and spoil themselves. This explains the sales pattern. Other light novels have not had this issue, their readers have gone ahead and read past the weekly anime episodes.

                    • Progeusz says:

Wow. Now that’s a really rare situation. Usually the manga or light novel boosts are pretty even among all volumes with only v1 clearly in the lead.

                  • BlackPoint says:

NGNL is getting a 2nd of a sort with the upcoming movie which will have the LN material basicly the stuff that happend after the tv series

  2. PP says:

    Skipped over Grimgar.

    • something says:

Added. Mentioned it on twitter but forgot here.

      • Progeusz says:

Nice, so it’s gonna get past 4k with wk2.

        • something says:

If it ranks, it probably should. It needs 240 more BDs for an even 4,000. v2 and v4 did not get wk2s though, so it’s no guarantee.

But yes, it’s definitely at least a 4k title in reality, considering we have two missing wk2s which would have given it enough already. ::glares at lack of extended rankings yet again::

  3. Vance says:

So the #1 of the spring season might end up being Haikyuu? Lol. I don’t watch the show, but I didn’t expect that.

  4. Vance says:

Oh, whoops. Haikyuu isn’t part of the spring season, nvm.

  5. something says:

I’ll do the normal full post tonight but I managed to catch the 2ch txt file so here’s the BD additions:

  6. something says:

    Updated for the full list.

Additions from the per-series ranking for the week of 2016-08-08:

    Persona 3 #4 Winter of Rebirth = 21,804 wk2 / 22,373 current
    • 1,859 total minus 1,779 (wk2 LE BD and DVD) = 80 RE BDs wk2
    • Could be RE BD or RE DVD but might as well add it to the BD.

    Re:Zero v2 = 9,537 wk3 / 9,909 current
    • 886 total minus 769 (BD v2wk3 + BD v1wk8) = 117 DVD v2wk3
    • It’s possible some of this is DVD v1wk8 but that would be such a tiny amount.

    • Tiago says:

I wonder if re:zero will rank in the yearly rank.

      • something says:

It should, at least v1-2. Last year the BD300 threshold was a touch under 8,673 (#297) and v1 is already well above that while v2 is now at 8,674 BDs. v3 will probably only make it if the threshold s lower this year. Which it may be considering how bad sales are.

        • Progeusz says:

v3 BD has 9k prediction, even if we go with standard overestimation it will sell 8k BD wk1. So it should reach >9k BDs in wk3.

          • Tiago says:

v3 is having stock problems, they just don’t learn.

            • hpulley says:

Agreed, I really don’t understand it. “V1 sold 11K copies, I think I’ll just print 8K copies of V3 in case it drops off….” They must have had time to adjust their predictions by now, get more printed. Maybe it takes more lead time than I’m imagining but it is mind boggling. Kadokawa media factory, what are you doing??? They must have something better than we have, better than Stalker for predicting how many to print and yet stock problems continue.

            • Progeusz says:

Oh, so it might be another one with nice tail.
Rank is affected by orders so when a disc is out of stock it can only fall, meaning Re:zero v3 could pick up more sales in following weeks than currently expected once it gets restocked. Won’t be that much but always something.

  7. uchiha madara says:

    It’s been 9 weeks since re:zero v1 was released !!

I think it’s rare to see something like this

    • Tarot says:

I doubt it. Osomatsu-san v1 was in the list for more than 12 weeks.

      • Ejc says:

9 weeks is far from the longest charting TV anime volume…

      • uchiha madara says:

i know, but i don’t said it’s impossible and it’s the only volume who can do this,i said it’s rare to see something like this

        • something says:

You’re right that 9 weeks in the top 100 is not usual. It’s not exceedingly unusual, but it is not the norm.

Since it’ll probably rank at least once more, here are the Vol. 1s that ranked 10 or more times since the start of last year:

          19 Osomatsu-san
18 Kidou Senshi Gundam Tekketsu no Orphans
          14 Owarimonogatari
          12 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata
12 Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken Stardust Crusaders: Egypt-hen
          11 Kekkai Sensen
          11 Soukyuu no Fafner Exodus
          10 Kantai Collection

And it’s worth keeping in mind that these include the extended rankings for weeks in which they ranked 101-300. Meanwhile Re:Zero only gets counted when it’s in the top 100 (unless it drops to 101-300 then gets back into the top 100 later, which is very uncommon), because the extended rankings are no longer available.

G Tekketsu and Jojo Egypt only made the top 100 4 times, all the rest came from 101-300 rankings. Kekkaisen made it 5 times. Owari, Fafner Exodus, and Saekano made it 6 times. Kancolle was in the top 100 its 9th and 10th times ranked, but only due to being massively discounted at Amazon and getting a bump. Otherwise it stopped at 4 weeks.

So besides Osomatsu-san, Re:Zero has made the most top 100 Vol. 1 appearances in the last year and a half.

          • Jim says:

If the cutoff is “weeks in the chart after 1/1/15” then you could also add Shirobako and KimiUso to that list, since the former v1 came out in December but carried on well into 2015, and the latter v1 wasn’t released until February of ’15.
