And thus Winter begins with a dull thud. These were two of the better-ranking vol 1s too!
Winter update:
Durarara s4 v1 sells 2007/2413, total 4,420.
Rakugo v1 sells 1561/341, total 1,902. DVDs from extended.
Fall update:
Anitore! EX sells 1,699. 29% overestimated. One-shot release.
Teekyuu s6 sells 1,317. 33% overestimated. One-shot release.
Subete ga F sells 462 BDs, DVDs do not rank. BDs from extended. 29% underestimated. One-shot release.
Minihama sells 299 DVDs. From extended. 50% overestimated. One-shot release.
Osomatsu-san v2 sells 28141/34047, total 62,188. Maybe a bit more of a drop than I expected, might end around 75-80k instead of 90k for v2. Probably means around a 50k ceiling for the non-ticket volumes, maybe? The final average should be a bit below 60k, putting Osomatsu-san on track for a #6 of #7 finish.
v1 adds 1189/1722, total 102,981.
Owarimonogatari v3 sells 21126/2668, total 23,794. The volume to volume consistency of this series within a season rarely fails to impress.
v2 adds 526 BDs, total 26,863.
One Punch Man v3 sells 5767/2466, total 8,233. OPM probably won’t hold onto a 10k average without a big boost in a later volume but it’ll make a much stronger play at it than expected.
G Tekketsu v3 sells 6691/1064, total 7,755. Some kid of bonus in this vol? DVDs are higher than v1 or v2. BDs slightly higher than v2wk1 as well for an overall slightly higher wk1 than v2.
Fafner s2 v3 sells 5013/672, total 5,685.
Starmyu v3 sells 2807/1912, total 4,719. Event ticket drop kicked in hard (down ~50% on v1), but it’s going to manage a >5k non-ticket volume at least.
Shinmai Maou s2 v3 sells 2327/675, total 3,002.
Rakudai Kishi v3 sells 2229/487, total 2,716.
Lupin Part IV v3 sells 1771/613, total 2,384.
Valkyrie Drive v3 sells 1702/430, total 2,132.
Asterisk v3 sells 1608/423, total 2,031. DVDs from extended.
Heavy Object v3 sells 1057/224, total 1,281. DVDs from extended.
Aria AA v3 sells 921/248, total 1,169. DVDs from extended.
Concrete Revolutio v2 sells 583. BD-only release.
Haikyuu!! s2 v2 adds 1226/1070, total 15,222.
Gochiusa s2 v2 adds 519/162, total 13,697. DVDs from extended.
Past seasons:
Deremas v9, final volume, sells 10361/1026, plus 12792 G4U 24,179. OVA boost, at least on the standalone. The G4U is down 3k on the last volume and is the lowest volume of all. The G4U sales haven’t fluctuated hugely but they’ve still been pretty strange. Just going up or down a few thousand from what you’d expect seemingly at random. Why would G4U 8 have seen a boost while G4U 9 (OVA vol) dropped as its standalone disc did the opposite? It’s not like only the standalone had the OVA. Well, whatever! Series average: 29,243.
Maybe 29.3k or so after all is said and done. If we ever get G4U wk2+ data, it will break 30k. Still stuck with just one week of data for each volume right now. It’s an improvement over original Animas, though not a fair comparison because Animas didn’t have any event tickets, had a badly understocked v2, and had artificially suppressed v1 sales due to how v1 was released (bundled with the full Imas 2 game and thus not being counted – the standalone disc sold less than other standalones and it lost out on what would have been its best-selling G4U volume). Nonetheless, pretty remarkable consistency for a spinoff of the main franchise.
v8 adds 631 BDs, total 25,866.
Overlord v6, final volume, sells 8978/1429, total 10,407. Series average: 11,686. Pretty consistent performance, and never dipped below a 10k wk1 (other than v1 which came out during the week Oricon didn’t report Amazon, so sales were loaded into wk2).
Symphogear s3 v6, final volume, sells 8464/896, total 9,360. Series average: 13,347. Should end around 13.5k. Not hard to see why they announced not one but two more seasons when this franchise has gone 5,043 > 8,701 > 13,347 over its three seasons. You have to imagine this trend can’t continue for a fourth and fifth season but they’re sure as hell giving it a try!
Gate v6, final volume, sells 4791/1027, total 5,818. Very consistent volume on volume performance, no vol more than 11.3% off v1. Series average: 5,967 and wk2+ will take it over 6k.
Charlotte v6 sells 4523/748, total 5,271. One volume left, might hold onto a 7k average (it’s right there at the moment) if wk2+ hold well enough. It’s no Angel Beats! for sure but still respectable sales.
Gintama° v8 sells 2513/2499, total 5,012.
TLR Darkness s2 v6, final volume, sells 3976/922, total 4,898. Series average: 5,824. Down by half on s1’s 11,265 and a bit below Motto TLR to be the lowest-selling TLR season. Which isn’t unusual since it’s also the most recent, but a big drop from s1 which was the best-selling.
God Eater v5 sells 722 BDs, 4151 Offshot bundles, total 4,873. Famitsu data, it didn’t rank on Media Create.
Non Non s2 v6, final volume, sells 4119/400, total 4,519. Series average: 5,228. That’s solid enough for a slice of life show, but it’s sad to see a sizable drop from s1’s 8,673 when s2 was even better.
Prison School v6, final volume, sells 2791/665, total 3,456. Series average: 4,446.
Arslan v8, final volume, sells 1769/1150, total 2,919. Series average: 3,748.
Ushio to Tora v6 sells 1755/555, total 2,310.
Gakkou Gurashi v6, final volume, sells 1891/398, total 2,289 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 2,737.
Shirayukihime v6, final volume, sells 1203/750, total 1,953. Series average: 1,953.
Junjou s3 v6, final volume, sells 864/1001, total 1,865. Series average: 2,274. Huge drop from 9,574 s1 and 7,104 s2.
Joukamachi v6, final volume, sells 1123/236, total 1,359. DVDs from extended. Series average: 1,810.
Souma v8, final volume, sells 1289/371, total 1,660. Series average: 1,999.
AoKikan v6, final volume, sells 511/559, total 970. BDs from extended. Series average: 1,066.
SoreSeiyuu v6 sells 641 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Bakemono no Ko sells 11674/857 LE/RE BDs and 16253 DVDs, total 37,784.
Date A Live Mayuri Judgment movie sells 8197 BDs, 2354/291 DVDs, total 10,842. Hadn’t been tracking its estimates so kinda surprised it even hit 10k.
Hetalia s4 extra disc sells 3,653.
Nogenora BD box sells 1,879.
Prisma Illya BD box sells 839.
Garupan OVA adds 633 BDs, total 55,920. It took 53 rankings but it finally surpassed Stalker’s wk1 BD estimate, lol (51,897 estimate vs 51,934 BDs as of this week). Garupan has always been hugely overestimated/Amazon-biased, so do make sure you cut Stalker’s movie estimate by about 40%!
Yowapedal Movie adds 1503/895, total 21,000.

I was hoping for 5k but 4.7k isn’t bad at all for Starmyu. Thank goodness it didn’t completely collapse without event tickets. Big drop, but I thought it would be much worse. Next week should put it over 5k.
For an original series with main characters voiced by new generation seiyuu, I’m grateful. I hope they make a season 2.
Overlord v8, final volume, sells 8978/1429, total 10,407. Series average: 11,686. Pretty consistent performance, and never dipped below a 10k wk1 (other than v1 which came out during the week Oricon didn’t report Amazon, so sales were loaded into wk2).
You probably mean v6 right?^^
If it was produced by any other studio other than Madhouse…it would have been guaranteed that overlord would get another season in the near future with those sales. It’s not they don’t but the only sequal they have made since the start of the second decade in 2010 is chiffaryuu…so the odds are pretty low..even if it sold high.
I am Glad the GATE has had quite a consistent sale number never really dipping between each volume that much..which shows it has a real stable fan base following it…and at 6k is very good…considering that up to the second cour it covered 3 out of the 5 story arcs….i am really hoping that A-1 might announce one more season to finish it off…as where the second cour will end..it will definitely be a huge cliffhanger…so i hope the second cour has at least the same amount of sales as the first cour.
Also Diamond no Ace (one season carried right into the next, but they’re still separate seasons with separate series titles). Regardless, even in the previous decade Madhouse didn’t do that many sequels – Black Lagoon, Saiunkokou Monogatari, Hajime no Ippo, and Galaxy Angel are the only ones I can think of.
Madhouse was just the contract studio for Overlord, though. They weren’t on the production committee and have no stake in the show, so if the producers really want a second season they could shop it to another studio if need be, like the producers of Gunslinger Girl did (although we also saw how well that turned out).
I know that…i also know that they have other titles that had new studios change studio..but as you said..it is very risky to change studio..it could ruin or make it worse than how the original did…which is why i hope if a s2 is made it will be by madhouse cause if it changes studio there is no garuntee it will be the same quality as the first..i mean lookat log horizon when the second season was made by deen instead of satelight doing it again…you get my point.
changing studios doesnt always mean a good thing but ya know i rather have maybe a slight drop of quality since it doesnt bother me that much then not ever getting another sequel…
I hope Non Non gets a 3rd season, and yes, the 2nd was better. Maybe the jap fans disliked the fact that it was “Repeat” or the lack of yuri subtext… The pre-orders were strong in the beginning, but dropped after the early episodes.
Manga readers would have known that Non Non Biyori is one of the many slice of life series which never progresses, it all takes place during the same school year. Even with the obvious name I think some anime only watchers were a bit surprised that it was going through more events in the same period of time as S1. This likely led to a bit of sticker shock.
But then, why doesn’t it just follows a natural sequence instead of reseting everything multiple times. It doesn’t make sense…
Said it a month ago and I’ll repeat it now, I’m genuinely impressed at Overlord’s performance. It’s not very common to see a +10K being this consistent volume on volume and I sure didn’t expect Overlord to do this well. The same happened with Mahouka two years ago but unlike Overlord Mahouka was already a big title before the anime.
Well done, once again, Madhouse.
So the disasterious winter sales season has begun.
So to love ru did not manage to match the sales of dxd even though its more popular and legendary than dxd. What a shame.Even this volume’s sale dropped below 4000(BD only) which is first time i have seen. Its time for ecchi animes to end as their sales are stolen by other animes like monogatari etc.
We cannot say that winter was poor.It was poor only for ecchi animes and other useless animes. We can see that there are other great animes that performed very well
Ummm….beside Koyomimonogatari which is part of Monogatari franchise, then followed by Konosuba (though a bit far) and maybe POS, what other series are you’re talking about? I’m curious……
Are you sure you’re not mistaken the fall season with winter, cuz Osomatsu, Owari, Haikyuu!!, Gochiusa, OPM, Gundam, etc…etc…are all part of the fall season.
Which shows “performed very well” when only two have been released (neither with impressive results) and the rest look average or worse based on preorder rankings?
Remember, this site is discussing sales. Not how much we liked a show. I mean, you can discuss that too, but when we talk “performance” it’s going to be in the context of sales.
Well can you tell us about sales of manga or light novel?
This is an anime sales site, so no I don’t track those. This site reports DVD/BD sales and box office gross for films.
owarimonogatari looks like its going to sell consistently at 26k or so. which isnt bad i was nervous we were going to get a 20k average or lower.
Shaft gotta wrap this up before it starts declining too low. id be happy with zoku being the last tv series and they can continue with an ova format every new years or so with the off season novels.
Updated for the full list. Extended rankings later today or tomorrow.
Somehow this season is already worse than we imagined.

Shirayukihime v6, final volume, sells 1203/750, total 1,953. Series average: 1,953.
It average 1,973 or 1,953?
It was 1,953 based on this week’s data, but then v5 got a third week of ranking when I checked the extended list, and that bumped it to 1,976 (1,973 was a typo).
Hello! i have a few questions to ask[all noragami releated]
1)Did Noragami Aragoto help the manga sales?
2)Also can the delayed release of the BD/DVD affect the sales anyhow?
3)If anime sells complete one forth of the first season and the manga boost is about as much as the first gave it does it help much?
Thanks!
1) Can’t really say. Only one new volume has released since Aragoto started (v15). Below are the last ranked weeks for the previous four volumes:
194,602 Noragami Vol.15 [week 3, Nov 17 2015, during Aragoto]
200,648 Noragami Vol.14 [week 4, Sep 17 2015, shortly before Aragoto]
204,427 Noragami Vol.13 [week 3, Apr 17 2015, just after Aragoto was announced]
186,957 Noragami Vol.12 [week 3, Nov 14 2014, well after season one and before Aragoto announcement]
192,712 Noragami Vol.11 [week 3, Aug 15 2014]
Note that vol. 15 had an LE that came bundled with an OVA episode. I don’t know if Oricon reported it all in the same entry or if there’s another edition that missed the rankings. If the latter, it sold less than 22,124 (the top 50 cutoff for the week).
All in all I’d say Aragoto didn’t really boost sales much, but it may have helped them hold consistent. Whether that’s “enough”, I have no idea. We’d need to look at the next few volumes and see if it maintains this level. One volume released while it was airing isn’t much of a data set. I mean, looking at the above data, the announcement did the work, airing had no real effect.
2) Delays won’t help, but probably won’t be a game-changer either. If you really like Aragoto and wanted to buy it, waiting a few more months was unlikely to change your mind. Maybe it lost a few impulse buys, or lost some buyers who were on the fence between it and some other show and decided to get the show that came out first. But I don’t see this being a huge factor.
3) It’ll likely average about half of season one. It’s at best holding manga sales consistent rather than giving them a big boost. Whether that’s meeting expectations is anyone’s guess.
Durarara’s sales aren’t great, but they are an improvement over the ~2,400 that season 3 was averaging. Was there anything special going on with it (event ticket or some other promotion)?
Vol 1 of x2 Ten didn’t contain an event ticket, so it received no boost. Better comparison is the first cour (x2 Shou) which also had an event ticket and did 5.8k wk1.
FYI I won’t be posting the sales tomorrow, at least not in the morning, for various reasons. I might get to it later in the day tomorrow if I can. In the meantime, you all know the place where you can get it if you don’t have a Youtaiju subscription: http://katsu.ula.cc/test/read.cgi/piropiro320jp/1432224908/48-. Right now that’s a link to the current post (#48), when this week’s prelims go up you’ll see #49 added. It usually updates an hour or two after Oricon releases the data (which is why I typically don’t link it right away – I’m usually done the post and back asleep by the time it updates).
