Fall update:
Shomin Sample v2 sells 748/214, total 962.
Osomatsu-san v1 adds 5081/8743, total 92,932. Definitely has the sort of wk2 needed for it to have a chance of reaching 100k. I expect it to be practically there next week and cross the line in wk4.
Owarimonogatari v2 adds 1202/252, total 25,600.
Haikyuu s2 v1 adds 319/318, total 19,343. v1 should reach 20k, though that’s still well below s1v1’s 35k.
One Punch Man v2 adds 622/386, total 9,536. v2 will hit 10k as well, paving the way for a 10k average being theoretically possible.
Starmyu v2 adds 437/501, total 9,105.
G Tekketsu v2 adds 973/168, total 8,797. DVDs from extended.
Fafner Exodus s2 v2 adds 395 BDs, total 6,305.
Shinmai Maou s2 v2 adds 387/136, total 3,868. DVDs from extended.
Summer update:
Rokka no Yuusha v6, final volume, sells 439 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 460.
Overlord v5 adds 379/131, total 10,820. DVDs from extended.
Symphogear s3 v5 adds 692 BDs, total 9,786.
Charlotte v5 adds 446/129, total 6,290. DVDs from extended.
TLR Darkness s2 v6 adds 420 BDs, total 5,456.
Junjou s3 v5 adds 221/294, total 2,424. BDs from extended.
Prisma Illya s3 v5, final volume, adds 540 BDs, total 4,127. Series average: 4,417.
Past seasons:
Deremas v8 adds 821/137, total 24,833. DVDs from extended.
DxD BorN v6, final volume, adds 323 BDs, total 6,005. Series average: 6,297.
Gintama° v7 adds 238/238, total 5,711.
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Shisha no Teikoku sells 6871/1134 BDs, 971 DVDs, total 8,976. Project Itoh’s hopme video debut.
Steins;Gate BD Box sells 2,845. This is the second box (first was in 2013) and the MSRP is actually higher this time on account of it including the movie. That brings the re-release total (DVD box, BD box, BD Box 2) over 10k and the original + re-release total to 27,071.
Persona 3 Movie 3 adds 729 LE BDs, total 24,339.
Garupan OVA adds 446 BDs, total 54,392 in wk50.
v1 2015 re-release adds 552, total 5,234.
v2 2015 re-release adds 336, total 4,502.
v3 2015 re-release adds 350, total 4,209.
Big jump this week, recent weeks had been adding about 200 each. It’s almost doubled its first week total. Add in the RE BDs from May 2013 and the various additional releases for v1 have come to 6651… which still does not cover the missing v1 gap due to it being so under-stocked. Needs a good 5k or so more for that!
And even the REs from 2013 ranked in the extended rankings. That means this week a 7 month old OVA, 7 month old singles re-release, and three year old BD REs all ranked.
WUG Movie 3 adds 280, total 2,142.

Is that a good number for Shisha no Teikoku? Did it perform well in theater?
Shisha no Teikoku was ranked 13th on 72 screens in its opening weekend with a Top 10 threshold of ¥45m. Unless there was some other report later, we don’t have any precise data on it, no. It didn’t make very much at any rate.
I don’t really know how to gauge movie disc sales to be honest. It’s certainly not a “hit”, but if it ends around 12k it’ll be… not terrible? I dunno, determining a baseline for films, original ones at that, is very hard.
For the movie success you go by the following box office rule:
– ¥1B = it is OK movie (last year 61 movies achieved this or more)
– ¥5B = it is a hit movie (last year 7 movies achieved this or more)
– ¥10B = it is a big hit movie (last year no movies achieved this, Frozen did it year 2014 and The Wind Rises in 2013).
B = 1’000’000’000
For wide-release mainstream movies, yes. But ¥1bn for a late night/niche adaptation or limited release isn’t “ok” it’s “absolutely spectacular”. A sub-100 screen release like Shisha no Teikoku was never expected to get anywhere near a billion yen. I was also thinking more about video disc sales in my reply, which have only cursory correlation to box office gross.
I would guess 2 billion yen+ would be mega blockbuster for late night anime adaptations movies, 1 billion yen+ would be blockbuster, 500 million yen+ a hit, 250 million yen+ is above average, 100 million yen+ is OK, and under that is terrible?
Something like that, though evaluation of sub-¥250m films would depend a whole ton on expectations (screens, popularity of original series, etc). I’d say anything below ¥150-200m is mediocre unless it was a recap film of a low-selling series, or something with very limited distribution (30 screens or less).
Think Tekketsu will end up over 9k? If so, maybe it’ll beat G Reco?
I wonder data is added for some series beyond 2 weeks and for others not.Why is that so?
The series that you don’t see after one week have disk sales that drop below the threshold of the charts that are the source of the data on this site. If it sells 2,300 copies week one, but only 200 week two, it’s likely too far down the list to be included in the Top 20(?) sellers in the list we get on Tuesdays.

What about extended rankings for Vol 2 Fall 2015 anime?
I limit it to v1s, averages, boxes, and films/OVAs because if I listed every volume that updated each week I’d be typing about 100-150 every time and it’d simply take too long. I’ll probably update all the ranking pages this weekend (got Monday off so I have some extra time), including the per-volume ranking, so your best bet is to check that afterward.
Concrete Revolutio sold only 1,076 as a BD-only right…those sales are really poor too right? Then the expectations for the 2nd cour to sell would be pretty bad as well won’t it? Then why are they even making a 2nd cour? Wouldn’t dropping the title prove much better? And since its a orignal it won’t have any profits through manga sales too. ..then for Studio Bones it would be just another huge loss won’t it?Or is someone else funding the title?
The sequel was probably planned in advance (possibly by contract?), and therefore they may be committed to it (canceling it might be costly). However, I’m not sure Bones will take a significant loss on it. Members on the Production committee (who invested in it) might take a loss though. It’s not always clear who is making/losing a significant amount of money on any particular project.
In this particular case, Bones is on the committee, and at 3rd of 7 total, behind Bandai Visual and Anime Consortium Japan. But while we know committees are listed by investment amount, we don’t know the percentages for each. Maybe Bones contributed a significant amount (like 25%) and has a good deal to lose, or maybe almost all the investment came from BV and ACJ and Bones has very little to lose.
But yes either way the second cour should already be well under production by now so it’s too late to cancel it outright. That almost never happens with anime.
Recently Chaika S2 was shorted to 10 episodes and Buddy Complex was turned into a 45-minute special but outright cancellations, not sure that’s ever happened with anime.
Well… aside from the mystery of Nanoha Vivid which apparently cancelled both the discs and the rest of the franchise without so much as a peep. But Nanoha’s seiyuu cancelling all her upcoming work is probably related. Might be tough to continue Nanoha without Yukarin, even if she is just a supporting character now.
It’s a split cour so obviously it was planned from the beginning.
I think the total for Love Live! The School Idol Movie is wrong. I was adding here, from week 5, and got the following numbers:
Week — Limited (added / total) — Regular (added / total) — Total accumulated
5 — (4,073 / 220,236) — (256 / 11,020) — 231,256
6 — (*,536 / 220,772) — (*56 / 11,076) — 231,848
7 — (*,439 / 221,211) — (179 / 11,252) — 232,463
8 — (*256 / 221,467) — (*93 / 11,345) — 232,812
9 — (*261 / 221,728) — (??? / ??,???) — ???,???
I think it was lacking the week number 8 for the limited edition. I found by calculating the difference with the data from week 9 that came out today.
You could check please?
I made that comment five days ago, so I couldn’t have taken into consideration data released today, lol.
In wk8, both the LE and RE made the top 300 extended rankings, but we could only determine a new sales number for the RE (+93). The LE only indicated that it ranked for an 8th week, but we didn’t have a new estimate for it.
Updates from the extended rankings only come when a title moves up above another title that was previously above it, or a new title ranks right below it with a number higher than was previously known.
In this case, the next disc above LL is 105k higher, so we won’t be seeing updates from the extended rankings for the LE ever. Only from the weekly and monthly and yearly rankings,
But yes, when I get to the full rankings tonight or tomorrow, we’ll be able to fill in wk9 LE and maybe wk9 RE from the extended.
I understood! Thank you for reply.
I just thought strange when I saw the total released today, and when I subtract the amount sold in the week, the number obtained did not coincide with what is here.
LL fans…
