Everything. Just… everything.
Admittedly, the LL movie had all kinds of crazy reasons to be boosted, but just for a frame of reference, what were the previously top selling late-night series movie BDs?
The 6th live concert lottery application serial code is valid for 1 per person, so it is useless to buy multiple copies. If it was under the old rules, then the Movie would’ve sold even more than just this. It makes me think now that the 6th live is at the Tokyo Dome for 2 days, which has a seat capacity of just 55,000. So that’s a total of 110,000 if people were limited to only 1 day for example, less if they’re not limited to just 1 day. So obviously many applicants are going to miss out regardless.

Are those Digimon sales good? I don’t know what counts as good for movies or anything like that.
Pretty subpar for a movie, might get 10k within the coming week but still nothing to sneeze at, however the box office estimates has exceeded expectations so the movie is still a success if anyone is concerned. This is really a nostalgia cash grab and Digimon never really got as big as Toei’s other franchises so this is a about as good as it’ll get.
10k for this is still pretty good, the “movie” was really just 4 episodes of your typical Toei production.
10K is typically really good for TV Anime, but for TV anime movies, the Digimon movie sales places it in the bottom 1/3 in sales.
I pasted this list in the last week post, but here are the TV Anime Adaptation Movie BD+DVD sales (includes mainstream such as ONE PIECE, Doraemon, etc):

Obviously these 5 have not been updated yet on this wiki, but we know where they place…

Surprisingly, it actually looks like osomatsu might beat v1 of Owarimonogatari. But too early to be sure. Osomatsu does not come out untill late Jan.
But even the special gave it a big ep boost.

I think Osomatsu-san beating Owari for v1 is virtually guaranteed at this point. The Stalker estimate is much higher and its Animate ranking has been ludicrously good, with both DVD and BD between #1-3 for ages now. It’s going to be really, really, really huge. Whether it beats Owari on average depends on how severe the drop is after the event ticket and how it holds up being 8 volumes. I’d definitely bet on Owari averaging higher but Osomatsu v1 will be a monster.
Oh Stamyu, please do well. It’s been ranking decently on Animate especially since episode 6 or so.
Dance with Devils…it had such promise but then it turned out bad. I don’t particularly care about it.
I agree with you, Starmyu was a much better show than Dance with Devils. Now to see what the japanese buyers think, it’s hard to tell what their tastes are lol.
Did you see the last episode DanDevi? So darn disappointing, ugh.
Hah yes I saw it, it was on par with the rest of the series as far as being a disappointment lol. The way it ended with the choice leads me to think there may be an OVA with the ‘other’ choice being made? I like how they had her smiling and happy even though she was back to having no friends, they made it pretty clear at the beginning she only had the one and well…..
Did you like Rem or Lindo? Rem had almost no development imo. I still don’t understand how or why or when he fell in love with Ritsuka.
The only one I could “buy” as falling in love with her was Nanashiro. His spotlight episode had a story that made falling in love realistic to me. Rem was way too emotionless for the audience to see any love. Wanting to protect a girl alone was a pretty weak way to show love lol. Lindo was brother/best friend territory so I just knew he wouldn’t be in the running!
I only liked Nii-san because I like nii-sans but yeah, Mage is the only one who actually showed signs of falling in love with her. How I wish he was the main guy, sigh.
I agree with you totally about Rem. I know, for protecting a girl, lol.
And yeah, nii-san or childhood friend-kuns never win in a reverse harem. Dx
hmmm I wonder which anime would be top sale next season. May be Prince of Stride?
That’s unlikely for now. I’m praying that it breaks even.
If it was just a sports series, maybe. But it’s an otome sports series. I’m a bit confused actually. Many sources state that Yagami Riku (one of the main guys) is the protagonist in the anime and I’m inclined to believe it since Sakurai Nana (the main girl) is pretty sidelined in key visuals and posters even though she’s the MC in the otome game and the like.
If it concentrates just on the sport, then maybe it’ll do well.
Impossible to say. Next season is utterly devoid of anything that could remotely be described as an “obvious hit” so I guess it’ll be exciting to see what comes out on top (even if the season itself looks like the exact opposite of “exciting” to actually watch).
Macross is probably the obvious hit. But as we have seen before, twice in a row even, Gundam TV also does not always hit a 10k average.
So who knows, But going purely on a pre-existing fanbase, Macross has the best shot top top winter.
Ajin and Assclass are also popular, but AssClass has already shown to not have a BD buying fanbase.
They haven’t actually confirmed that Macross is airing in January. There’s a preview special scheduled for New Year’s Eve, but nowhere on the Macross web portal or in any of the pre-pub (that I know of) have they announced a broadcast schedule or made a “Regular weekly broadcasts will begin on Jan. x at xx:xx pm JST on [insert list of TV stations]” statement.
Yeah I would have said Macross but no season for a full broadcast seems to be announced. So barring that, uh, it looks barren.
Oh right. Just checked moonphase to be sure. I did not even have it in my own shedule, strange i’d think it was confirmed for Winter.
In that case, i’d say Ajin is the favourite to be the top seller. Not that is as obvious, we all know good manga sales do not translate to good BD sales.
Seinen manga adaptions in particular rarely translate to good disc sales but I suppose we’ll see how Ajin does.
2015 Yearly BD/DVD sales are now out.

Where’s Yahari? It’s weird that it’s not there yet something like Saekano is.
Oregairu only released 5 discs during the reporting period while Saekano released 7, so it’s going to be higher in a raw disc count stat, considering they’re on track for similar averages.
For the record Oregairu s2 has sold 57,704 so far.
73,463 does seem very high for Saekano though, even with the extended rankings giving us very good coverage, its total is only 67,846 + 1,005 accounted for in the mid-year per-series ranking. I have no idea where it would have added 4.5k more discs. Was there a live event disc or something I’ve already forgotten about? It’s not possible for it to have added that much without hitting the top 300 a bunch more times.
Could be sales additions from outside the Top 300, as I don’t see any other discs for SaeKano, even on Amazon JP.
That’s just a ton to add, with top 300 thresholds usually being below 50. That’s like 12 weeks per volume at 50 per volume. Granted additional DVD weeks might cover like 1000-1500 of the gap. Still nuts though.
It’s really bizarre and dumb that Oricon tracks below 300 but then, what, maintains the numbers in a totally separate system and never reports them outside of per-series ranking? I don’t get you, Oricon.
Full ranking posted. Next week’s thresholds are gonna be ugly. Yay for the extended ranking I guess.
Checked the extended rankings for this week. About 50 DVDs and 100 BDs were new or added a week of ranking.
