Winter update:
Fafner Exodus v1 adds 339 BDs, total 8,374.

Fall update:
Garo v1 sells 374 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Yowapedal v2 sells 4193/4637, total 8,830 This volume has an event ticket as well, so while it’s down a bit, no big drop yet.

Yuyuyu v3 sells 6830/465, total 7,295. Not a huge drop, but definitely still too much a drop to compete for #2 of Fall, Shirobako is definitely unchallenged there now. I wonder if this will end up closer to 9k than 9.5k, unless it has a decent wk2 and levels out ASAP.

G Reco v3 sells 6105/627, total 6,732. Man this is shedding BDs pretty fast. 8.5 > 7.3 > 6.1 opening weeks on BD. Even if v1 was slightly high from using soundscan, this isn’t a trend that can continue much longer. Levels out here maybe?

Psycho Pass s2 v3 sells 4004/1007, total 5,011.

Ai Tenchi Muyou v2 sells 1070/211, total 1,281. DVDs from extended ranking.

Shirobako v1 adds 613 BDs, total 11,515.
v2 adds 677 BDs, total 11,133.

Past seasons:
Haikyuu v8 sells 9137/7862, total 16,999.

Free! s2 v6 sells 9553/5491, total 15,044.

Dia no A v8 sells 2,967, DVD-only release. Down a bunch all of a sudden, v2-7 were ~5.5k.

Akame v5 sells 1250/343, total 1,593.

Sabagebu v6, final volume, sells 1,191 as a BD-only release. Series average: 1,645.

Sorameso v2 sells 999 as a BD-only release. What in the hell is this massive drop? Ugh. Also fuck you Oricon, count my disc, at least give it the small dignity of two 4-digit wk1s. ;_;

Ao Haru Ride v6 final volume, sells 615/765, total 1,905. Series average: 1,905.

Love Live! s2 v3-6 add stuff but honestly I’m tired of typing this up every week, you get the idea and it’s right there in the table, don’t even need any math done since they’re single format releases. I’ll just be listing 7 and the series average going forward to save time and tedium.
v7 adds 1282, total 69,802. Series average: 64,086.

SAO II v4 adds 177 BDs, total 18,826.

P4GA v6 adds 450, total 7,325.

Sailor Moon v5 adds 256 BDs, total 2,509. DVD v5 next month.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Yuru Yuru OVA sells 7233/1078, total 8,311. Better than I expected, already 4th highest selling volume and will at worst be second. Not bad at all for 2.5 years later.

Shin Tenipri OVA v3 sells 1459/3166, total 4,625.

Potemayo BD Box sells 451.

Tsukimonogatari v1 adds 577 BDs, total 30,167.

BroCon OVA v2 adds 414/60 BDs, 448 DVDs, total 9,021. RE BDs from the extended ranking. Much smaller wk2, but mostly because wk1 was way bigger, so it’s just about the same.

  1. Avatar hpulley says:

Yuru Yuri, I loved the OVA. Still wish it had been S3 instead, still wonder if OVA sales like that would convince them that it would sell well enough to make it.

  2. Avatar mierin says:

What is the predicted sales number for KimiUso Vol 1?

    • something something says:

Thew Stalker estimate is 6,018 but it’s one of the last Aniplex shows without a non-exclusive version on Amazon so it could be very heavily underestimated. If the normal pattern holds, nearly 10k wk1 wouldn’t be out of the question. 8-9k might be more realistic. less than 8k seems unlikely.

It’s going to drop. v2 is estimated at 3994, maybe that will get to 4.5k with release boost. Unclear how that will translate to actual sales drop though.

But it’ll be a fairly strong seller either way, especially for something nobody expected sales of to begin with.

  3. Avatar some1 says:

Maybe G-reco will have a high 2nd week consider it is the first time it being released on Friday and it is still charting on amazon Top100

  4. Avatar Anonymous says:

Just checked the total rank, it seems Shirobako vol.1 and vol.2 sold another 500 for last week

    http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/34386/rank/blu-ray/p/39/

    • Avatar Ejc says:

Those sales were already covered in the full list last week, with Vol.1 at rank 31 and Vol.2 at rank 24. The extended Oricon list no longer updates every Tuesday, but at around 13:30~14:00 JST on Wednesdays.

      • Avatar Anonymous says:

Nope, it’s updated today, last week Shirobako vol.1 was #387

        • Avatar Ejc says:

The Oricon website is known for glitches, but I assure you it hasn’t updated yet. Just check last week’s sales and you will see that Shirobako Vol.1 charted for its 8th week with 513 sales: https://www.someanithing.com/2967. Nothing has changed except the ranking, which is the website glitch I mentioned. Usually it occurs when some releases with the same sales switch places, but this is probably some random glitch on the Oricon website.

I am the one who linked this Oricon extended ranking here weeks ago, so after many weeks I should know exactly what day and time it updates.

          • Avatar Anonymous says:

It’s not a glitch, it just updated the rank number first, then week number later.

          • Avatar Anonymous says:

And i’m sure the wednesday time update means nothing for us, because it just change the weekly charted numbers-but it just that, nothing more.
I already spent 3 weeks to see will the wednesday day time update effect the tuesday night time update…nah, it doesn’t.

          • Avatar Anonymous says:

And please next time don’t act like i’m new to Oricon, i’m not.

          • Avatar Anonymous says:

And i know there’s only one possible way wednesday day time will effect the show i care(Shirobako)’s tuesday night time update ranking-if there’s new show sell more than Shirobako vol.1/2.

And i don’t think there’s any new show sold more than Shirobako vol.2, so yeah, i don’t have to care tomorrow’s update, though next week will be different case with something like SAO new vol going to release.

        • Avatar Ejc says:

You should have also picked up on it if you looked for Love Live! Vol.7. It charted in its 9th week in the preliminary list and has almost 70k, so it should be easy to find in the extended list: http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/34386/rank/blu-ray/p/3/

It is still at 8 weeks charted, thus the extended ranking has not updated yet.

          • Avatar Anonymous says:

Yes, but rank number already moved, just not(yet) for the week charted number, witch means it’s updated, just not fully, and it’s enough to make people guess things they want.

        • something something says:

If it added another 500 we’ll see that in the normal Thursday rankings anyway. I’m generally not in a rush to mine the extended rankings until after the full weekly comes out.

As for update timing – if it’s not simply a glitch (and we know the site is glitchy), then Oricon may recalculate released titles before adding new ones. When I scraped last week, it was at 3638 BDs. Now it’s at… 3638 BDs. The full update still comes on Wednesday as Ejc noted. And of course as stuff is added that’ll change where it’s ranking again.

  5. Avatar natapori says:

I’m glad to see Free! ES pass 15k again even still drop from last volume. It quite sure to pass 20 k average with left 1 volume.I just curious how much sell in the end.

  6. Avatar artpw says:

A bit worried about YuYuYu as I don’t see it having a good second week. Let’s see how things evolve from here, anyway, even if ends up falling to a 8k average its still a really good result considering Gokumi’s previous numbers and Ponycan’s 2014 numbers

    • Avatar Jim says:

It’s not going to get that low, artpw. an 8k average for a 6-volume series is 48k total sales. Volumes 1 and 2 have already sold around 21K combined (v1 11.5k and v2 9.5k more-or-less), so the remaining 4 volumes would have to average about 6.7k each in sales to drop the average that low, and even v3’s first week sales are already over that threshold. V3 had about a 10% drop in first-week sales from v2, so if the tail also has a corresponding 10% drop then v3 will end up at around 8.4 k, but even if it stalls out a little lower, say at 8k, the series is still in great shape. Far better than any of us were expecting three months ago.

      • something something says:

Basically my feeling about it too. I was hoping v1 could top 10k as well, and that others would stick close. But even 8k would be totally solid and probably good enough to get the sequel they seem to be teasing at so hard.

  7. Avatar anonymous says:

So, DRRR is out of stock on Amazon… is that a good thing then? Could it sell more than what stalker is estimating?

    • something something says:

Going out of stock on release day happens somewhat often, even to shows that sell very poorly. It’s got restock scheduled for 2/28, so the restock will be included in wk1 sales regardless.

Overall I wouldn’t put much faith in Drrr sales unfortunately. The estimate is pretty bad for a title that averaged 18k last time, and while it should increase later in the week with Animate sales, its pre-release day ranking isn’t great.

It’ll outdo the Stalker estimate, sure. But I only just realized that Vol. 1 is an event ticket volume and it’s still this weak.

Even if v1 does “okay” (ignoring how much it’s dropping from s1) It’s gonna get ugly by the end of this 3 cour, 18 disc marathon, and I have a feeling we’ll be seeing sub-3k volumes by the end.

  8. Avatar AnimePhoenix says:

YowaPedaS2v2 didn’t drop that much, I think? I believe volume 3 also has some sort of bonus with it, though I’m not sure what. So we’ll only see real results starting with volume 4. I hope it does well. I would love another season. Then again, the manga sales are also really going up. That reminds me, I have to check it’s manga sales!

Haikyuu!!, BroCon and Free!ES doing well as usual but what happened to Dia no A? Well, it’s also doing well in the Music/merch/manga department so I’m not too worried. As much as I didn’t really like BroCon’s anime, I’d eat another season lol.

On the other hand, those AoHaRide sales, ouch. Oh well, Hakusensha is still pushing their series into anime with the latest Akagami no Shirayukihime so I’m satisfied. After this, I want a Last Game anime! It’s seriously good.

    • something something says:

      “YowaPedaS2v2 didn’t drop that much, I think?”

Hard to say what’s expected when multiple volumes have an event ticket. Usually the second volume will drop somewhat, but whether Yowapedal’s counts as normal or a bit high, I’m not sure. Not sure there’s a pattern. It depends entirely on wk2+ though, a short tail could mean the total sales drop from v1 is kinda big.

But it’s v3 or 4 that’ll really tell the tale, yeah.

  9. Avatar FelixL says:

So, can you tell me if Shingeki no Bahamut and Gugure! Kokkuri-san’s numbers are good? I liked those shows.

    • something something says:

Bahamut’s first vol was rather average, I guess. Gugukoku had a solid v1, but that was because of the event ticket. v2 is back to average.

Both will end up around, I dunno, 3k average? Pretty middle of the pack, median-wise. Neither explicitly good nor terrible, just kinda… there, disc-wise.

  10. Avatar Anonymous says:

    Full rank is out

  11. something something says:

Updated for the full rankings. Now to get cracking on the extended rankings for a few hours, whee…

  12. Avatar Anon says:

Are the chances of Shirobako hitting a 10k average starting to look reasonable, or still a long shot?

    • Avatar Anon says:

Right now, the third and fourth volume might reach the 11K (volume 3 for sure) so, if it doesn’t get big drops between volumes it may end with a 10K average but I think it’ll really be a close call. Also, volume 7 comes with a Third Aerial Girls Squad OVA, that one will be important.

    • something something says:

10k is pretty much guaranteed at this point. The first two volumes might not even stop at 13k and that’s more than enough of a lead to hold up through the next seven. Better question is if there will even be any volumes under 10k at all.

  13. Avatar Anonymous says:

It’s incredible that now 2 months later and Shirobako v1 is still selling over 500 copies each week. I haven’t noticed it having any stock issues on Amazon (v3 on the other hand…) so I’m guessing it’s just people who keep watching the new episodes and have decided it’s a series worth owning? Or maybe just people who wanted to order 1-3 at the same time? Either way, its tail continues to impress.

Even though I held Tsutomu Mizushima in high regard rather early in his career with the energy of Hare+Guu and Dokuro-chan I thought him to be one who could only direct spastic comedy shows, but now with the sublime GuP and Shirobako under his belt I can say that I was definitely wrong in mentally pigeonholing him as such.

    • Avatar primadog says:

Even in GuP and Shirobako his comedic timing is superb.

    • People who direct multiple shows year-in and year-out ought to get better the more work they do. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say just having experience in dealing with practical BS and little intricacies is a good part of getting anime to come across the way you want it to (especially given how chaotic Shirobako depicts anime production as being). Mizushima is a crazy grinder who deserves mad respect.

    • Avatar Progeusz says:

Oh, Shirobako had a lot of stock problems, if they got resolved, that only happened in latter part of February because I wasn’t checking amazon then. There might be no problems right now but it can go out of stock in few days again considering how it has been behaving since it went up on sale.

  14. Avatar ried says:

    So Garo predictably bombs. Uh, at least it ranked at all? Will just prepare for it to never show up again in the rankings anyway ;_;

  15. something something says:

Checked the extended rankings for this week. About 50 DVDs and 95 BDs were new or added a week of ranking. As before, I’ll just highlight some updated v1s, BD boxes, and miscellaneous:

    Nanatai v1 → 8,125

    Psycho-Pass BD Box → 9,530
    Gintama BD Box v1 → 8,211
    Fafner BD Box → 2,686
    Pingdrum BD Box → 2,281

Cinderella Girls PV Set → 23,091

Yuyuyu ranked again but the next milestone is 11,203 BDs, so it will need to rank 1-2 more times to hit that.
