Other releases (concerts etc)

Winter update:
Fafner Exodus v1 sells 5928/833, total 6,761. Respectable start even considering the event ticket, given it’s been over ten years since the original.

Fall update:
Yowapedal s2 v1 adds 160/237, total 12,934. BDs from extended ranking.

Shirobako v1 adds 1067 BDs, total 10,389. 2nd largest week in wk7…
v2 adds 1683 BDs, total 9,800. Likely #2 of Fall now, since for all we know v1 may just continue to restock and v2 probably has 1-2k more in it.

Yuyuyu v2 adds 271 BDs, total 9,316. Okay, no long tail for v2+ looks like, that means there’s no real chance of Yuyuyu taking #2 of Fall. That is going to go to Shirobako now. Ah well, #3 is way better than expected.

G Reco v2 adds 458 BDs, total 8,592.

Nanatai v1 adds 392/559, total 7,572.

Amaburi v2 adds 602 BDs, total 6,363. Only half the wk2 of v1. Maybe two more weeks in the extended ranking for about 6.6k? Could hold onto a bit over a 6k average if it stays consistent. Solid enough.

Grisaia v2 adds 246 BDs, total 3,927.

OreTwi v2 adds 243 BDs, total 2,400.

Past seasons:
Blade Dance v5 sells 1176/437, total 1,613.

Shounen Hollywood v5 sells 758/315, total 1,073.

Glasslip v5 sells 371 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Love Live! s2 v3 adds 270, total 52,338 in wk24, meaning it added 464 in wks22-23.
v4 adds 295, total 52,880 in wk20, meaning it added 209 in wk19.
v6 adds 304, total 48,202 in wk12, meaning it added 290 in wk11.
v7, final volume, adds 1383, total 66,232. Series average: 62,958.

Haikyuu!! v7 adds 250/275, total 19,348.

SAO II v4 adds 1113/323, total 18,312.

Mahouka v7 adds 620 BDs, total 10,629. 11.8k average with 3 left.

Nozaki-kun v4 adds 450/292, 8,935. Almost 10.8k average with 1 left.

Aldnoah v5, final volume, adds 400 BDs, total 7,577. Series average: 8,591 for the first cour.

Prisma Illya s2 v5, final volume, adds 561 BDs, total 5,282. Series average: 5,477.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Tsukimonogatari v1 sells 24356/3130, total 27,486. Lowest wk1 for a Monogatari disc by far. I’d say it’s really way past its prime, and it is, but it’s still 27k wk1 fully 26 volumes in, so…

Clannad AS Box sells 1951/356, total 2,307. On top of the 5,155 of the original BD box, that’s 7,462 in re-release sales.

Pingdrum BD Box sells 2,000.

Kuroshitsuji Book of Murder v1 adds 469/467, total 7,380.

  1. Anon says:

Fall certainly seems to be coming in far less disappointing that it initially had looked like it was going to sales wise with these very long tails on Yuki Yuna and Shirobako (and the correcting of the Gundam mistake). Probably won’t get that 2nd 10k BD, but Shirobako looks like it could certainty come close if V1 sticks around for a few more weeks.

  2. primadog says:

Interesting to see Stalker underestimating an Aniplex title (Tsukimonogatari) for once.

    • primadog says:

By underestimate I mean overestimate, of course. Stalker awarded Tsukimonogatari volume 1 28295+3235 points.

      • something says:

I’m guessing buying patterns for that are just so well-established now that the effect is greatly lessened? The time spent at #1-2 also helps offset some of the underestimation. And there’s discs that Aniplex+ is holding back until Tsuki v2 releases, which probably knocks 1-1.5k out of wk1 sales. v2 will be a bit closer, since it’s set to end with about 3k less points (due to always ranking one spot behind v1 when they were both new and ranking high) and will have the Aniplex+ sales all at once.

Even accounting for that, though, yeah the Amazon-edition-only underestimation does not seem to apply to Monogatari.

  3. Shiru says:

Well, I’m pretty happy for Fafner Exodus!

    • Lidieth says:

Me too! I’m relieved that it wasn’t overestimated. It almost beats the lowest-selling volume of the first season.
Hopefully next volumes will sell 5k.

      • something says:

It’s actually a bit surprising that it wasn’t overestimated. I don’t know where the heck the other sales came from! I suppose it did rally at Animate later on, which was apparently enough to beat any early Amazon bias.

  4. hpulley says:

Could be another 1K with v2 for v1 of Tsuki if the Aniplex store is selling them as a pair but still ouch. Hopefully still selling enough to bother completing final season.

  5. mk03 says:

    >10k for Shirobako
Excellent news. The show’s pretty great and it’s nice to see that Japan agrees.

  6. something says:

    Updated with the full ranking.

  7. artpw says:

Let’s hope there is no huge drop for YuYuYu’s v3 and beyond, I think its possible for it to average at a 9k since the last Volume will come with a Visual Novel

    • That second VN feels like a badass wild card with a lot of potential. I’m hopeful because there’s a good chance it has some post-TV scenes in it. Would love to see some more of that group just hanging out after having matured through the events of the series.

      • something says:

They could just, like, have it cover bits of Sonoko after. That’s really setting up for a sequel, big time, so it might be an interesting way to bridge the gap.

Not sure it’ll have a big impact on sales since v2 didn’t drop all that much from v1, but it should help stave off some drop at least.

        • Jim says:

Volume 2 also shipped with a character image song CD IIRR, and volume 4 is coming out with an additional soundtrack CD (I assume it’ll have music that didn’t fit on the first OST release). So it’s just volumes 3 and 5 that don’t have any special extras announced.

          • something says:

Charasong CDs are such a common extra that I tend to assume they have no real effect on sales, unless music is itself a huge part of the franchise. OSTs… generally not much either I’d think.

          • artpw says:

Volume 3 comes with an artbook by BUNBUN, the art looks nice and it contains concept art from the planning of this series.

Volume 5 will come with Itsuki’s song plus the chorus version of the OP/ED Sounds like the weakest one so far.

  9. something says:

Checked the extended rankings for this week. Almost 50 DVDs and over 100 BDs were new or added a week of ranking, so I’ll just highlight some updated v1s and BD boxes:

    Shingeki no Bahamut v1 → 3,526
    Girlfriend (kari) v1 → 3,088
    Log Horizon s2 v1 → 2,636
    Sora no Method v1 → 1,854
    Ai Tenchi Muyou v1 → 1,539

    Psycho-Pass BD Box → 9,474
    Gintama BD Box v1 → 8,110
    Fafner BD Box → 2,487

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru v1 ranked an 8th time but we can’t add anything because it was at 10,807 BDs last week (11,346 total) and the next rank up isn’t until 11,027 BDs. It might get there if it ranks 1-2 more times.

I think I’ll use this format going forward for extended ranking update summaries.

  10. AnimePhoenix says:

YowaPedas2 v1 BD just below this week’s threshold I think. Ah well. It’s still a great number all the same. Haikyuu!! missed the 20k mark but it’s dong great as well. Nozaki-kun and Kuroshitsuji BoM doing well is also pleasing to see. I want a new season of Kuroshitsuji badly!

    • something says:

Yeah, 160 BDs in the extended, 12,934 total.

      • AnimePhoenix says:

        Thank you!

        Ahhhh so close to 13k!

        • something says:

Also Free! ES v5 added 164/174 to hit 18,103 so yay 18k. That’s only 17% down on v1 so that’s pretty good! Obviously it’s a bigger drop from the event ticket volumes but with a 22,163 average and only two volumes to go, nothing should be stopping the 20k average now.

All in all, more solid than I had expected for a sequel with v1 about 11k off the s1v1. If it gets ~21k that’s not too bad a drop from 29k. it’d be down about 28%, which isn’t a small drop but isn’t terrible. It’s a bit more than Kurobas’ 23.5% drop. If v7 with the OVA sees a good bump and ES ends up with a 22k average, then that would be 24.4% off, right alongside Kurobas.

Considering ES had to compete for women’s sports anime yen with the hot new Haikyuu!! as well as Yowapedal and Dia no A, I would be pretty content with a 20-22k average.

          • AnimePhoenix says:

Again, thanks for the information! Woot, 18k get! It IS good. I was worried whether ES would be able to maintain a 20k average at first but I think it’ll be just fine now!

I hope the last volume with the OVA boosts its average. That, along with a movie announcement maybe? That would be great. And I agree, it was completing with three hot sports anime and the merchandise and CD sales is still going strong so I’d be pretty content too.

Now, if only KyoAni would make a new series aimed at female otaku…

There have been an increasing amount of male idol drama CDs/Otome games coming out so I’d think making a male idol anime would be a great idea. I just don’t want Free! to be their first and last anime aimed at females.

            • something says:

Well, with it being their only true smash hit (one could argue Chuunibyou s1 as well, but Free s1 sold almost double Chuunbyou s1) since K-ON!! they’d be pretty foolish to not at least try! At a minimum I hope we’ll see a movie for Free.

I don’t feel like women are any easier to read as an audience than men though, so who knows what would pay off and what would be a flop. Predicting these things seems to be impossible…

              • AnimePhoenix says:

Yeah, even if they did have another new anime aimed at females I don’t expect it to reach Free! levels though I would be delighted if it did.

I agree, I don’t think they’re easier to read either but I don’t see KyoAni doing an otome and they’ve already done a sports show so I thought idols would be possible since I don’t see KyoAni do something like Bungou Stray Dogs(action shounen with a strong female fanbase) either.

Exactly, no idea what will be a hit or what will flop. These days it seems it just…I dunno, ‘happens’?

If Hibike Euphonium is one cour then I wonder what KyoAni has planned for Summer 2015?

  11. mk03 says:

Man those Glasslip numbers are atrocious.

  12. Anon says:

Shirobako v2 already confirmed for breaking the 10K.
    Both volumes still ranking high.
Volume 3 currently dominating the animation ranking.
The rest of the volumes in the top 100 or hanging close.

    This is so, so great.
