Spring update:
Mekakushi v2 sells 3949/3174, total 7,123. Down 21% on v1wk1, and assuming it’s not just less front loaded this could be a taste of the kind of drops we’re looking at – hard to say, later volumes might rise, it could be uneven from one to the next due to the single episode, song-per-ep nature.
ALSO, keep in mind v1-2 come with an event ticket application. v3 will be telling!
v1 adds 379/355, total 11,394.

Love Live s2 adds 2610, total 106,010 as a BD-only release.

Black Bullet v1 adds 277 BDs, total 3,188.

Kawaisou v1 adds 223 BDs, total 2,863.

Winter update:
Hoozuki v5 sells 4246/690 BDs, 3309/835 DVDs, total 9,080. 20% drop on v4wk1 and v5 is currently 50.1% down on v1, might be about 45% down with wk2.

Yakuindomo* v6, final volume, sells 2851/543, total 3,394. Series average: 3,752, a 39.4% drop from s1. v6 should get a wk2, but only barely, so it won’t change the numbers much, up to maybe 3.8k.

Noragami v5 sells 1476/1120, total 2,596.

Robot Girls Z sells 1040/276, total 1,316. Up 22% on v1wk1 but probably a smaller wk2 this time.

Nourin v4 adds 206 BDs, total 2,237.

Past seasons:
Monogatari v9 adds 402 BDs, total 36,918.

Kill La Kill v7 adds 665 BDs, total 9,079. Still holding above 9k per vol and ~10.9k average, two volumes remain.

Kyoukai v7, final volume, adds 293 BDs, total 4,197. 16.4% bump over previous for the final vol’s OVA. Series average: 4,328.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Slam Dunk BD Box v1 (of 5) sells 2,164. Five is a lot for a series of BS boxes, but each one is quite cheap (¥16k) so maybe slae swill hold up.

Madoka Hangyaku adds 240 LE BDs, total 181,750 in wk15.

Persona 3 #1 adds 257 Le BDs, total 39,009.

T&B Rising adds 2957/261 BDs, 969/309 DVDs, total 36,859.

Love Live! re-release v1 adds 229, total 6,288.
v2 adds 214, total 6,012.
v3 adds 205, total 5,981.
v4 adds 215, total 6,736.
Average: 5,938.

Haikyuu could well reach 20k, the other v1s are pretty much toast. Also this time, I get to see Sakura Trick AND Akuma no Riddle AND InuNeko all sell badly on the same day! Tho it doesn’t really matter in InuNeko’s case.

  1. rederoin says:

InuNeko isn’t doing that badly for a short, I think.

    • something says:

A number of of shorts have done less than the 1k or so it should sell, but it’s probably not particularly good for anything, even for a short. I mean 1k discs is like ¥7m/$70k USD (or more like $35-40k USD for the committee after costs) and that is such a tiny amount of money that it can’t be doing much on its own (not that InuNeko with its awful production values could have been a high cost production). Even accounting for Oricon undercounting, we could double the number and it’s still well under $100k. Probably all comes down to source material/CD/merch sales for shorts.

  2. Clotho says:

Haikyuu!! will be most exciting next week, hopefully it can rival sales that of Kurobas s1 or come close to it. Just great progress all around on the HQ franchise, hoping we get an updated total copies in circulation number, we were at 4mln before the anime, 7mln end of may and a reprinting end of june, so hopefully the next colour page it gets in the magazine says it.

Green with envy at those in the free! fandom posting their HQ BDs on twitter thus far yesterday and today.

    • something says:

With a 15,856 Stalker estimate, I have to imagine it’ll hit at least 20k first week given its strength at Animate, and probably 25k total, if not more.

Going by the Stalker predictions it is in for a rather ugly event ticket drop in vol. 3, but storefront strength should soften that blow quite a bit and make it not nearly so bad as the 50%+ drop Stalker is predicting.

  3. Zirthiel says:

What are the predictions for Mahouka if I may inquire?

    • Progeusz says:

      5k BD + 1.3k DVD for total of 6.3k
However there are only amazon versions available on amazon and it’s an adaptation of very popular light novel, so the store-front effect could be pretty big meaning the sales would be significantly higher than prediction. I haven’t really tracked how it does at other stores but I’m expecting for it to be underestimated.

      • something says:

It doesn’t really make the rankings elsewhere all that often, but that’s because these days the stores with top 10s often get dominated by one or two shows at a time, and HMV is weird and useless, so tracking anything via storefront is a damned mess right now.

In any case I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t sell 10k v1 after a few weeks, but whether and how much it holds up is another question entirely.

        • Masterman says:

I will be surprised if it hits 10k, it’s less than a week to its release and is still outside the top 100 on Amazon.com. It doesn’t seem to be gaining much momentum close to its release, unlike something like No Game No Life. Most of the series has been underestimated this season so Mahouka will probably be the same but I don’t think Mahouka will sell much more than its prediction.

          • something says:

Amazon only offering an Amazon-exclusive version should in theory really hurt its ability to attract customers. Amazon’s exclusive extras are generally garbage and come with somewhere between 0 and 10% discount, compared to non-exclusives with their standard 27% discount. And if you’re not going to get the Amazon discount, there’s really not much reason to buy from them over a specialty retailer that almost certainly offers much, much better bonuses. I suppose Amazon is willing to make less sales if their profit margin per disc is higher?

But as usual there’s no way to tell until the data is out! I don’t think it’ll do 10k wk1, but even if it does, say, 8k it shouldn’t be too hard for it to hit 10k in the monthlies or whatever, since it’s a v1.

Edit: Alternate interpretation, since this is happening to Aniplex titles, it could be Aniplex in another fight with Amazon. This is another way for Aniplex to fight Amazon’s 27% discounts. And Aniplex clearly seems to hate their releases being discounted that much, or more to the point, the presumably lower wholesale prices Amazon is willing to pay to sustain those discounts.

      • Ejc says:

Most of the time this season, storefront was completely taken over by Love Live! (at Animate, gamers, softmap, and Toranoana) and a bit less by Haikyuu (Animate). Now SAO and Free! has taken over at gamers and Animate respectively. Did not see Mahouka much in storefront rankings since it is only Top 10 as jmal/something said, but I also did not see Mekaku City on the rankings much and look at how big the storefront effect was.

  4. Zhou says:

Ugh, so Captain Earth is expected to bomb too? Man, Bones just can’t catch a break nowadays, even after getting the Star Driver team back together,

    • something says:

3k prediction with an event ticket, so not looking good, no. I don’t have any clue if it’s expected to have a storefront boost, though.

    • ChocoBar says:

This doesn’t seem to be a good year for them despite it being their 15th anniversary. Star Driver was the last hit and that was nearly 4 years ago.

  5. something says:

Updated for the full list, ranking summary and blah blah tonight.

Where is my Gochiusa wk4 tho.

Oh and apparently my table plugin updated and decided to arbitrarily change the layout so uh, I’ll have to figure that out later.

    • Progeusz says:

Oh man, this layout is terrible to read. I loved how much info was at once on screen previously. Hopefully you’ll be able to fix it soon.

  6. Tiago says:

    T&B Rising adds 2957/261 BDs, 969/309 DVDs, total 36,859.

    Persona 3 #1 adds 2957/261 BDs, 969/309 DVDs, total 36,859.

    Persona 3 with TB numbers..

  7. something says:

Fixed some styles, I think the tables are more or less like they were before now.

Think I’ll also hold off the ranking summary until tomorrow, it’s already kinda late and I have Locodol to watch.

  8. Progeusz says:

Oh, might as well do it even though it isn’t Friday anymore, could be useful in the future:

Sidonia v1 adds 291, total 9,561. Can it reach 10k?
Sidonia v2 adds 415, total 7,879. Up 7.5% on v1wk3. I doubt it will get close to 9k but it’s a good sign for other volumes. I hope Sidonia can end its run with 8k average. It would be great if DVDs ranked even once, this 200-300 could be crucial.
