A number of volumes are already unusually close to their previous volumes’ totals this week, which makes me think we’ll see fairly small wk2s for most stuff next week.
Also um, congrats on making history, Meganebu?
Winter update:
Hoozuki v3 sells 5214/4493 A ver, 879/1158 B ver, total 11,690. Figure it hits 13k next week. I’m guessing all remaining volumes will pass 10k as well.
Mikakunin v3 sells 4683/531, total 5,214. On track to match v2 next week, unless its a small wk2.
Yakuindomo* v4 sells 2995/579, total 3,574. May pass v3 next week.
WUG v2 sells 1,955 as a BD-only release. Without the ticket, bit of a tumble, down 34% on v1wk1 and probably 40-some% off the total in the end.
Z/X v2 sells 436/518, total 954.
Wizard Barristers v2 sells 497 BDs, DVDs do not rank.
Noragami v3 adds 381/430, total 3,618. Down 35.7% on v2.
Fall update:
Yowapedal v6 sells 2243/1994, total 4,237.
Kyoukai no Kanata v5 sells 2694/817, total 3,511. Might pass v4 next week.
GaliDon v6, final volume, sells 591 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 643 with only BDs ranking.
Meganebu! v6, final volume, sells 176 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 176 with only BDs ranking.
The absolute last possible moment to rank: the final volume, on just one format, at #100 of 100 for the week, in one of the lowest thresholds we’ve had.
It is now, officially, the worst selling ranked anime in history.
Kill La Kill v5 adds 564 BDs, total 10,039.
Sekatsuyo v6, final volume, adds 344 BDs, total 841. Series average: 1,082 with both formats ranking (albeit DVD only twice and only barely).
Past seasons:
Monogatari v7 adds 351 BDs, total 38,125.
OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Persona 3 #1 sells 23514/717 BDs, 4693/521 LE/RE DVDs, total 29,445.
GJ-bu@ sells 3496/253, total 3,749. 1k below estimate. GJ-bu just continues to be Amazon-heavy for some reason. Still, this is already about 500 better than its TV series average.
Ai Mai Mii BD Box (okay, single disc re-release) sells 689.
Madoka Hangyaku adds 689/261 BDs, 283 DVDs, total 177,438.
SAO EE adds 321, total 23,231.
Mushishi OVA adds 187 BDs, total 6,907.
Kuroshitsuji BD Box adds 452, total 4,947.

And finally the last Fall 2013 series is solicited, Dia no A.
How would you judge the Persona movie? Pretty bad, or not that bad?
Ehhh, it only pulled in ¥200m box office so it wasn’t big to start with, but selling less than some volumes of the Persona 4 TV series? Just feels really weak. I’m not terribly impressed by those sales, personally.
Persona 3 is not Persona 4, or a should say Persona 4 is not a Shin Megami Tensei vikdeo game in general.
The main problem with the Persona 3 Movie is that is that the main game is totally different from the persona 4 Game so it’s not the same fanbase.
True, I know it’s not a great comparison. Like I said here when someone asked last week, it’s very hard to say what it “should” be selling. But something just seems off about 28k. It’s hard to put a finger on why. I suppose it selling modestly less than Strike Witches (another ~¥200m film) just feels weird! Really tho, no, I don’t have any clear metric for what good sales for it are. In any case, I doubt they’re in the red over it and nobody involved is going poor.
(Also just noticed I forgot to add a comment with its total – fixed!)
Next week will be slower again(only one 5k+ release, and only three 3k+ releases). But we’ll get 3 new releases the week after that, thankfully.
Not much to comment on this, but still great hold for Mikakunin vol 3.. just a few units bellow vol 2 w1. Best show of the Winter season for me.
Noragami crosses 3k, thank goodness. And it got a second week on DVDs! I thought it would only get a second week with BDs. Well, with BDs on Thursday let’s hope we get 3.5k.
Hoozuki well over 10k. Gotta finish that series. Please Kodansha, announce a second season for that and Noragami. Hoozuki’s doing much better than Nora but still…Noragami got a good manga boost too.
Yowamushi Pedal 6 over 4k! Hime, hime! If all volumes stay over 4k, it would be amazing! And we have a second season already so the anime must have been a success. I love sports anime. Still waiting for KuroBasu 3. Not to mention Haikyuu!’s manga getting a Kurobasu type boost!
I’m too worried about Daiya no A. Its not the type of show where sales matter much.
I’m too worried about Daiya no A. Its not the type of show where sales matter much.
*NOT too worried.
I’m hoping Diamon no ace will get renewed though, its nice to see a sports show from the PoV from the ‘elite’ school for once, and them having 4 pitchers instead of just 1 ‘ super-prodigy’ pitcher.
I agree. I don’t know how well its doing in TV rankings but hopefully it gets renewed.
It only ranked in the top 10 once, it had a rating of 1.8.
I don’t think they expected it to do much better. The top 10 is always Pokemon, George-san something, Sazae-san, Precure, One Piece Toriko etc. Wish there was a bigger chart to know how it was doing.
Yeah, I think just showing up in top10 is already a huge success. After all it’s occupied by years-long shows, it’s hard to break through with something which only has some months of airing behind it.
Rating of 1.8 is >2 millions people watching it, that’s a lot.
It only showed up in the top 10 because a lot of shows went on a break. It was during New years.
Makes sense. Usually the lowest ranking in top10 is closer to 4-5. Anyway, 1.8 is a great number for anime.
Great for late-night, maybe, but Ace airs on 8:30 on Sunday mornings. Previous series in that slot (various Beyblade incarnations) put up ratings occasionally in excess of 2.5 and consistently above 2.0. Ratings probably help it more than hurt it, but I wouldn’t call 1.8 a great figure except in comparison to late-night programs. It’s good to average at best.
Hk!! is rising faster in terms of manga boost, kurobas reached this type of boost way later. Who knows what kind of limit Hk!! has.
Nora got a of boost, but not in Hoozuki scale. Plus selling more than 3k isn’t exactly impressive, with that original ending I can’t see a second season coming unless it was meant to be a slip cour or something. Hoozuki is a matter of when not if.
Pedal seems like a success in various levels, the anime is a solid seller, the manga sales are increasing slowly but surely.. made women start biking irl…
Daiya no A seems to be doing just ok, manga sales didn’t increase much.
Ace of the Diamond didn’t get an explosive increase, but v40 in March had a first-2-week total of ~250k volumes, up 75k from v37 last August (first-2-week total of 175k). That’s a pretty hefty bump for a manga that will presumably run for a while yet (preferably at least until Raichi and Sawamura face each other for 5000 more at-bats).
The thing is… It was a manga that did it before, just lost some readership over time. It’s not even at ahiru no sora level.
There was the stretch from v16-v24 where 7 volumes broke 200k, but none of those ever broke 220k. v40 is the best first-2-week performance by a volume in the series so far by a very significant margin.
Is not being on AnS’s level supposed to be disappointing? The latter is a very successful series.
*broke 220k in a 2-week period
I hope that increases the chances of it being renewed when the first 52 episodes end.
Yeah Haikyuu!! is doing much better than Kurobasu was doing. I wonder if the BD/DVD sales will reach KuroBasu.
I read that in an interview, the director of Noragami said the reason they gave it an original ending was because the Bishamon arc would take 9 episodes or so and they obviously didn’t want to rush things.
They could have just made it two cour then…ah well. Let’s hope for the best.
Pedal got a lot of merchandise, events and yeah, it was so good it inspired women to start biking.
C3-bu did not keep its record-breaking sales for long.
So Meganbu! sold 26% less than c3-bu. Thats a rather big drop from the previous record holder. We are going to need some really low thresholds for a show to break it.
Full ranking updated. Summary to follow tonight.
Uh, congrats, Meganebu. Or something like that.
You know what they say, a record is a record.
M3 could break it…
Maaaybe. It does come out on a Saturday, which is unusual – that gives it less time than usual to sell its already terrible number of copies. So its sales could in theory be worse than 176.
But there is a significant amount of stuff coming out the week before, and its release week will be heavy with wk2s from stuff released the week before, so thresholds will probably be at least 200, maybe higher. Even if it sold less, we wouldn’t know.
Of course, later volumes sell less than first volumes, so it probably needs to do the same thing Meganebu did, and only rank once on one format in one of its later volumes. Meganebu surely sold more than 176 BDs for v1.
Ahh Noragami crossed 3.5k. Thank goodness. Now if it can just get 3k for the remaining volumes, that would be swell.
LOL Meganebu!, I tried hard to like you but I just couldn’t. Congratulations!
Quick look at what is getting released next week, and after 5 weak weeks(including our current one), we have a huge one coming up. ‘Huge’ as in ‘A 6k+ threshold!?’ Huge.
>Meganebu! v6, final volume, sells 176 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 176 with only BDs ranking.
>It is now, officially, the worst selling ranked anime in history.
And to think it was a fujoshi show too. What a massive surprise for me. Even if it wasn’t well promoted or well like, fujoshi money should have been enough to make it sell at leas half a Fractale.
I’m not a fujoshi and while it had a lot of stuff which was definitely there for fujoshi, it just didn’t click with them. Simple as that.
And now fujoshi show won’t feature megane type bishounen as spotlight for a long long time.
You might not get a show centrally focused on guys with glasses, but that’s such a specifically niche sort of topic that you weren’t going to anyway. Shouldn’t stop any bishounen shows from having a character with glasses just as they would have before tho.

Do you have any data about the play/concert/WhatEverTheName of Persona 4 called “Persona 4 Visualive” and “Persona 4 Visualive the Evolution” ? It’s not that i’m interested on these thing, but it could be interesting to compare the popularity of both Persona 3 and 4 with these data.
http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00E1UIMQY
This thing?
Either it didn’t rank or the 2ch posters didn’t think it relevant to include in the anime sales posts rankings. I’m not finding anything.
That was the second one, the first one was “Persona 4 Visualive”
http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B008PDH1DI
Maybe there is data for this one, but there is very little chance if the second one has no data available.
Nope, nothing on that either. I just did a search on visualive and got zilch. Maybe it’s just not being listed in the rankings by the 2channers who compile them.
