2021 Winter Vol 1 Rankings
Please note: Volume 1 sales are not the best, or even a particularly good, way to evaluate a series’ performance. Sometimes one of two formats doesn’t rank in volume 1, but ranks in a later volume. Often times volume 1 sales are inflated with bonuses like event tickets or bundled manga, etc. Always, always use the average sales when evaluating anime, not volume 1 sales. I only provide these because it takes many months before we have a final average and people like to be able to ballpark a season early on. Just be intelligent about it!

Do you know of any projections for Uma Musume 2? I was hoping it does at least somewhat close to the original. How many volumes is it this time?

    • Avatar Chirumiru says:

4 releases for this second season

    • something something says:

Impossible to say. While Pripri does exist as a replacement for Amazon Ranking Stalker, there are a lot of factors that make it essentially useless for estimating Ume Musume s2’s sales.
      • most of its estimated points are on the Amazon store-exclusive version, which usually results in heavily overestimating real sales
      • it’s spent a lot of time at #1, which always screws with estimate accuracy
      • the estimate has fluctuated wildly, going as high as about 140,000 (which is clearly ridiculous) at times
      • it’s constantly going in and out of stock for preorder, so sales come in bursts that also screw with its ranking

The first season sold very well based in large part on the inclusion of codes for Granblue Fantasy. Season two does not have those, but it does include codes for the finally released Uma Musume mobage. With the game being very new and the top-grossing app in Japan almost every day since its release, this might actually be more powerful than Granblue codes. Those have been available in a lot of shows’ releases, whereas Uma Musume’s codes are just in its own BDs. So I think it could have some pretty phenomenal sales, but whether that’s 15k or 50k I could not guess. Season one sold 21,404 vol 1 and 18,235 average.

It’s 4 volumes, like season one.

      • Avatar scineram says:

Thanks a lot! Fingers crossed then.

      • Avatar scineram says:

So, I see different numbers for the 4 volumes here. https://www.someanithing.com/8934

So it should be ahead of Zombeland Saga here. Guess that page was not updated? https://www.someanithing.com/1

        Here it’s correct however. https://www.someanithing.com/8932

        • something something says:

For Uma Musume? Yeah, the first season’s volumes have started ranking again over the past few weeks. First just Vol 4, but then this past week all four volumes ranked, filling in a lot of previously unseen data and bumping the average up considerably. Since they’re from way back in 2018, I went ahead and updated the 2018 per-volume and averages posts separately, because I wouldn’t normally be updating them anymore and didn’t want to forget about it. I’ll update the full set of posts next time I do my usual monthly-ish update (probably in a week and a half).

          • Avatar scineram says:

Ah, wow! I would have never expected those numbers to be brand new data, ranking after almost 3 years.

            • something something says:

If I’m reading the description right, at some point the serial codes for Granblue Fantasy that they included were extended to work through 2022 instead of the end of 2020, so I guess that plus the second season airing bumped the original again.

  2. Avatar Changeman says:

kaifuku sold more than i expected. The author mentioned that more than 1000 units that cost more than 25,000 yen have been sold.

  3. Avatar Changeman says:

SK selling well. Will there be a sequel?

  4. Avatar Changeman says:

Has there been any change in sales for Kaifuku vol 1?

    • something something says:

No new data. It didn’t rank in its second or third weeks. That means it sold less than 124 DVDs and the two BD editions each sold less than 390 discs in week two.

      • Avatar Changeman says:

In your opinion, are there chances that SK = vol 1 will be able to surpass 10,000 copies sold of BD?

        • something something says:

It’ll definitely ship that many, the question is whether the weekly ranking thresholds will be low enough for us to actually see it. Might need three more weeks, depending on which formats continue to rank.

  5. Avatar Changeman says:

Any forecast for the next update with volume 2 of the series?
