Surely Oregairu Kan will top 10k as well, and Sword Art Online: Alicization War of Underworld 2nd Season already did it. (on that 10k list)

IDOLiSH7 Second Beat! will likely do it, but guess it might be too soon to tell.

Yeah Oregairu looks certain at this point, I just didn’t notice how many volumes it had out. i7 SB is less clear, it’s at 12k after just 2 of 7 volumes so it could easily go other way. I’ll add Oregairu and SAO next time I update. I just added LL and JJK without having to think about it much since they’re no-brainers. I actually need to do a more thorough check to see if anything else is missing and didn’t feel like doing so before I posted this update.

        I see.

I’m mostly curious to see if kan manages to be up on Zoku, like zoku was on s1. In a day and age where anime is selling less, and we also get less numbers than before, if it does a 3rd increase in sales it’s rather impressive.

        • something says:

After four volumes of each, Kan is a little bit ahead (12,560 Kan 1-4 vs 12,023 Zoku 1-4) so it’s probably going to end very slightly higher overall.

How is going Dragon Quest Dai? Thanks

    Thank you very much.

Sorry to write again, but do you think that Dai sales are good? Thank you very much.

I don’t think it matters much overall. It’s a low number of discs, but low is normal for physical media now. It’s probably a small fraction of the series’ overall expected revenue.

And you got me curious so I checked when it aired, and it’s a 9:30AM on Saturday morning show. That means it’s aimed at an audience of young kids (and older fans with nostalgia), which makes discs even less important of a factor. Normally I don’t even track weekend morning shows like that in the main list since they tend to be long-running (like 4+ cour) and get put in my long-run list. I only see two cour listed for Dai no Bouken 2020 at the moment though.

The discs themselves are being published/distributed by Avex, so they’re the company who would care the most about its sales. That said, while I don’t know what the production committee is (only TV Tokyo is listed, the others aren’t specified) I would wager Avex is either very low on the committee or maybe not on the committee at all, and is just being contracted to handle the token number of discs the series is gonna sell.

tl;dr the disc sales are not an important measure of this show’s success or failure, and I might even end up sticking it in the long-running list instead if it ends up being longer than two cour, since that’s where most kids/morning/prime time anime go.

I see, i’m very grateful for the detailed answer. I think that being a morning anime like you say, the sales aren’t bad, comparing to other morning animes, and aren’t than important. Can you tell me where you see at the moment is a two cours anime? I didn’t see that in any site.

  6. Dai says:

    Perfect, thanks for all!

  7. Ayumi says:

The GIVEN movie DVD/BLURAY was released last week and I got info that it sold 15,200 copies total. (9798 BLURAYS and 5402 DVDs.)

Is that good compared to recent movie releases? I haven’t been following anime sales for a while.

    Thank you!

It’s very difficult to define any sort of baseline for films, even moreso than TV. But I guess I’d say 15k is decent.
