2019 Summer Vol 1 Rankings
Please note: Volume 1 sales are not the best, or even a particularly good, way to evaluate a series’ performance. Sometimes one of two formats doesn’t rank in volume 1, but ranks in a later volume. Often times volume 1 sales are inflated with bonuses like event tickets or bundled manga, etc. Always, always use the average sales when evaluating anime, not volume 1 sales. I only provide these because it takes many months before we have a final average and people like to be able to ballpark a season early on. Just be intelligent about it!

Where is Given ?
Ah, I used Pripri’s list and they’re missing it. I’ve added it now, thanks.
Which are the series that come with event ticket?
I don’t explicitly track this, so I don’t have a list. But off the top of my head, Machikado, Dumbbell, Ensemble Stars, and Starmyu all have one. I would assume Symphogear should get one since it’s always had one in the past, but I’m actually not sure if one ever got announced?
Odds are probably half of the series have some kind of event ticket, but those tickets only make a large difference for a relatively small number of shows (particularly music focused ones).
Enen no Shouboutai only sold 107? That seems awfully low for the type of show it is.
We don’t have the DVD number, but considering what the thresholds were this week, they wouldn’t make an appreciable difference.
The only thing I can say is that because it’s so low it only came from the leaks, not the normal Oricon chart. But that in itself is already damning – the thresholds this week were 909 BDs and 207 DVDs, and the additional leaks we have show it not in the top 300 at all on DVD and only selling down at 107 for BD.
I did some looking around to make sure there wasn’t some last minute delay of the disc, and perhaps the sales that were reported were copies on hand that went out early and… nope, everything lists 9/27 as the actual release date.
Just doesn’t seem like anyone wanted to buy the discs. It’s doing well on CR streaming though, and I suppose it could still be pushing more manga sales, but I don’t know.
The araburu sells was good?
If you see a blank under “Sales” in the chart, it’s the opposite of good. That means it sold so poorly that we didn’t even get a number in the additional leaks.
When will the list be update?
I update the Vol 1 posts every week when the new data comes out, if there’s any new vol 1 data anyway. Last week’s releases get data tomorrow, so approximately 24 hours from now (unless I forget).
I’m shocked at how much Symphogear XV has dropped over Symphogear AXZ. V1 of XV is down nearly 48% from V1 of AXZ.
As far as I know, no event ticket this time. Previous seasons had two volumes of tickets to start off, and they resulted in major boosts. These sales are about consistent with what we should expect for a v1 without an event ticket, if it were otherwise selling about the same as GX and AXZ.
It might not even reach 10k average. In fact, if it continues the trend of XV, it might only average 7,800 per volume. Second lowest of the series.
Why would it follow the trend of previous seasons if they had event ticket drops factored in? You can’t just assume it’ll drop 40% when there’s no event ticket bump to drop from. Event tickets gave AXZ a 20k average across its first two volumes. Comparing that to a non-ticket season is comparing apples and oranges.
Symphogear’s non-ticket volumes have always been extremely consistent:
G: 7,659 → 7,493 → 7,575 → 7,740 → 8,556 (max variation 1,063 discs)
GX: 11,137 → 10,383 → 10,414 → 10,511 (max variation 754 discs)
AXZ: 10,629 → 11,562 → 11,095 → 11,327 (max variation 933 discs)
Looking at it another way, XV just started out with a better number in its first week than the lifetime sales of any previous non-ticket volume in the series. Seems reasonable to expect XV’s average will be on par with the non-ticket volume average of GX or AXZ, so 10-11k. But it’s premature to make exact guesses until we know what kind of tail v1 will have, or at the very least its wk2. Or if they’ll add an event ticket in a later volume!
Maybe I was wrong after all. I feel kind of embarrassed now.
If XV manages to hold similarly to Season 1 volume to volume, it will probably finish with between 12k and 13k average, putting it right in the middle of the Symphogear seasons by sales.
