Awful threshold, but a few v1 leaks are here, and were used below: https://rio2016.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/anime4vip/1531575010/763

Edit: Additional leaks: https://rio2016.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/anime4vip/1531575010/834

Spring update:
Golden Kamuy v1 sells 2654/1106, total 3,760. 10.2%/20.1% overestimated. It came in just below the point where Stalker applies high price penalties, which I guess exaggerated its estimate enough to offset some generally strong rankings at Animate, and it was still somewhat overestimated.

HS DxD s4 v1 sells 3159/805, total 3,964. 20.9%/20.2% overestimated.

FMP IV v1 sells 3610/286, total 3,896. 40.9%/25.1% overestimated, thanks to Stalker’s bugged estimates. A more realistic estimate was about 4.0k or 4.1k, but even then it was really Amazon-biased and still a bit overestimated.

Lupin Part 5 v1 sells 1457/671, total 2,128. 52.4%/50.1% overestimated.

Rokuhoudou v1 sells 1194/100, total 1,294. 74.1% under/53.7% overestimated. Event ticket.

Butlers v1 sells 176/356, total 532. 8.0%/83.5% underestimated.

Megalo Box v1 sells 387 as a BD-only release. 43.7& overestimated.

Gundam Build Divers v1 sells 168 DVDs. 59.1% overestimated. Note that the BD version doesn’t start until the first box in September (not that it’s estimated to sell a ton as BD either).

Omae wa Made Gunma sells 143. 69.3% overestimated. One-shot DVD-only release so Series average: 143.
• Note that it’s in the second set of leaks twice, as 143 and 119, so there’s probably some kind of mistake there. Regardless, 24 units is beyond insignificant so let’s be nice and take the higher number.

Persona 5 v2 sells 4628/831, total 5,459. Gonna be down a fair amount on v1, so while it was already given, now we’ve extra guaranteed that Uma Musume is the only 10k series this season?

SAO GGO v2 sells 4342/726, total 5,068. Better than v1wk1, though will probably have a smaller wk2.

Steins;Gate 0 v2 sells 2,497 BDs. DVDs do not rank.

Amanchu s2 v3 sells 2,310 as a BD-only release.

v1s Unranked in either format so far:
2018/07/25 Dorei-ku The Animation v1

Winter update:
Yurucamp v3, final volume, sells 11979/985, total 12,964. Strong start, almost equal to v2’s wk3 total. Series average: 13,888, and if it adds even 500 BDs next week it’ll end up over 14k. That officially beats out either season of Gochiusa.

Idolish7 v6 sells 6929/4240, total 11,169.

Darlifra v4 sells 4012/529, total 4,541.

CCS Clear Card v4 sells 3179/888, total 4,067.

Gintama Shirogane v2 sells 1525/1487, total 3,012.

Gakuen Babysitters v5 sells 630 DVDs, BDs do not rank.

Past seasons:
Osomatsu-san s2 v8, final volume, sells 3259/2816, total 6,075. Series average: 10,135[/x]. Down from 66,770 s1. What do you even say about a drop like that? Technically not the biggest collapse of a sequel, I guess! s2 sold 15.2% of the discs s1 did. Shingeki s2 sold 14.2% of the discs its s1 did. So there’s that?

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Cuticle Tantei Inaba BD Box sells 318.

Da Capo s1-2 BD Box sells 270.

Anitore s1-2 BD Box sells 160.

  1. Tuna says:

Oh the log collections still doing well for One Piece. So many episodes even Ive stopped midway getting them. Maybe Ill go back someday, but I doubt Id make time to rewatch the whole show, unlike say the 9 times Ive rewatched Naruto pt 1, and the multiple times Ive been through parts of shippuden. welp.

oh and CFvanguard G Z apperance, theres still love for Chrono afterall.

  2. Kaizen says:

Something, you were in the good range for Full Metal Panic first week’s sales.
So, how can it be analysed ? Rank is 8 but is it a disappointing/average/good start ?
    Thanks !

  3. Leonardo says:

So, how is FMP IV selling ? It’s good or bad ? How much do you think it will sells?

  4. Dave says:

Damn those FMP sales are even worse than expected. I was hoping it would at least clear 5k. I guess all things considered it’s still not terrible since:
    A. FMP was never a big seller
    B. This is a 13 year old sequel to said franchise that never sold that well

Plus, the box is absurdly expensive so even with that many copies it still makes a decent amount of money.
I’m just wondering if it will even have a w2? I’d like for it to at least hit 4k. Just have to hope the model kits keep selling like hot cakes to push the next season since Bandai is on the prod committee.

    • something something says:

      @ Everyone asking about FMP:

Compared to 1st and TSR (4,250 and 6,376 avg) yeah these numbers aren’t awful, especially given the amount of time that the franchise has been dormant. Fumoffu did top 10k, but it was also a bit of an exception with a very different tone.

Factor in that disc sales are just less important nowadays and make up for a smaller proportion of a show’s revenue than before, and I guess a ~3.5k number for FMP (assuming it adds a bit more next week and v2-3 don’t plunge) is… …fine, I guess? At the very least, we shouldn’t judge the franchise’s overall viability just on its BD sales.

“Plus, the box is absurdly expensive so even with that many copies it still makes a decent amount of money.”
Price won’t help here though, because while the MSRP is ¥14000/vol, it’s only 3 volumes, which makes this the same as a standard 6 disc release at ¥7000 each.

“I’m just wondering if it will even have a w2? I’d like for it to at least hit 4k.”
thresholds are gonna be rough next week two with so many titles out this week, but it might add another 300 or so.

  5. Tarot says:

What do you think wqs the cause of Osomatsu-san s2’s gigantic drop? Was it because the hype died down so soon or did the sextuplets gimmick got old?

Besides that I was wondering if this could have been avoided if they went with a movie route instead? I’ve seen many franchise with declining sales find success that way like SAO or Fate movies (spin offs included).

    • something something says:

Dunno, I’ve heard some complaints that fans just didn’t like the second season as much, but I have no idea how to quantify that or know how it was received overall. Certainly one important factor is that there was no massive event ticket like the one that exploded s1v1 over 100k sales. But even the non-ticket volumes of s1 sold multiple times what s2 volumes did.

It’s possible that a film could have done well, but by no means guaranteed. Fate’s film only really did so well because it’s part of the core story that fans of the franchise seem to like so much more than any of the spinoffs. A spinoff movie (like the Illya one) wouldn’t have done nearly as well. Fate probably needs to be seen as two separate franchises, with core story on one hand and spinoffs on the other. As for SAO, its drop was harsh to s2, but not nearly in Osomatsu/Shingeki territory. So I think the film still had plenty of core fans work with. (As compared to, say, GGO which is putting up vastly smaller numbers than either SAO TV season.)

  6. something something says:

Slightly updated numbers after some additional leaks:

Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory = 3,896
Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai = 143
    Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori = 1,294
Butlers: Chitose Momotose Monogatari = 532

  7. PapaShango says:

Tokyo Ghoul didn’t rank, happy for that.Surprised to see SDS not making the cut.

  8. Flushme says:

Winter was a really great season for SoL anime. Who’d have thought YuruCamp and Yorimoi would sell so well?

Do we have any estimates for Fate/Extra?

  9. Ura Ura says:

    And Black Clover ?

    • something something says:

It only sold 172 DVDs and 168 BDs v1 and we only got that from the v1 leaks, so by v3 it should be selling even less than that. I don’t think you’ll ever see it rank again. DVD/BD sales aren’t relevant for a shounen battle series like Black Clover though. It’s all about streaming views, licensing, merchandise, manga, ratings, etc. It airs in prime time.

  10. Anonymous says:

Well Dxd sales aren’t terrible. Between streaming, dubs, merchandise and partnerships I think Passione should be happy with the results.

    • something something says:

Probably, though to clarify, Passione isn’t really affected either way. They were paid a set amount to animate it, and after that it doesn’t directly matter to them how it did and they aren’t getting a cut of profits (or on the hook for any losses either). The investors in DxD Hero are:

      Kadokawa
      Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures
      Bandai Namco Arts
      AT-X
      Genco
      Movic
      Memory Tech

In that order of funding share. So Kadokawa has the biggest share, being both the DVD/BD and novel publisher, and probably getting some share of various other things.
