  1. Michiru says:

For a new movie for a popular series, how does that Free! TYM number look? It’s a lot lower than High Speed and about the same as the compilation movies…

    • something something says:

“Not impressive but probably sustainable when coupled with box office”, I guess? All depends on what their expectations were and what other revenue sources they’ve been able to harness as a direct result of the film.

  2. BlackPoint says:

Just crazy granblue it simply wont stop lol, this is probably one of the best bussines decision they have made and myself seeing it and it makes me wonder if this can keep up until the new project will air which i hope is a 2nd season aka continuation to the story.

Also been wondering but when is Overlord BD_DVD coming out O_O and any predections on their sales, personnaly i hope it can manage the 10k+ average it had from 1st season :|

    • something something says:

Overlord s2 came out today in Japan. The current estimate is 6,988 – 9,011 (with and without high price penalty respectively).

      • BlackPoint says:

Oh so we will see it next week and i see so there will be a slight drop guess a 10k gonna be hard then. And thanks for this info :)

  3. Routs says:

Wow, High Speed sold over twice as much as Free’s movie in its first week.

  4. Exukvera says:

Now I’m curious how much DarliFran will sell next week after all the bashing from recent weeks.

    • something something says:

The estimate is 5,564 but I guess we’ll see.

      • Mike says:

Is it good enough, to make the studios create a season 2?

        • something something says:

It won’t really be the studio’s (A1) choice, but rather the production committee as a whole. Aniplex is the lead on the committee, so it’d probably come mostly from them. They’d be making that decision based on a lot of factors, not just disc sales. So we really can’t say.

I will note that it’s already a two cour show, so to me that means a sequel seems less likely. If it were a one cour show I could see them going ahead with a second, but not many shows run longer than two cour.

          • Mike says:

Why not so many shows run longer than two cour ?

            • something something says:

It’s just expensive to make anime and there usually isn’t a lot of incentive to go beyond that length. Most shows are only one cour so a two cour show is already longer than usual. The late night anime model is also focused on producing a ton of short shows and then giving sequels to the handful of ones that are most successful. So it’s just unlikely for any single show to run longer than a cour or two. This doesn’t mean Darlifra can’t but it’s certainly by no means guaranteed.

Of course with prime time and especially morning anime, running long is common. Late night is different.

              • Mike says:

But if its popular and have so many supports, will they somehow make a season 2?. Or it depends on the story ?

                • something something says:

Anything is possible, sure. Shakugan no Shana is a late night show that ran for three two-cour seasons. Symphogear has a 5th season coming up. But there are many factors that go into whether another season gets made, and only the production committee knows what its plans for the franchise are right now. We can only wait and see.

  5. JackyOhayo says:

Those Uchiage Hanabi numbers are quite disappointing, aren’t they?

    • something something says:

Maybe? I dunno what they were expecting. It did ¥1.6bn box office but box office and disc sales don’t have a good correlation.

  6. Nano42 says:

Sad to see those numbers from Koiame,
Do you know much is the estimate for Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens?

  7. Will-o-Wisp says:

Btw any information about estimates for Darling in the FranXX?

  8. Mk says:

RIP KoiAme. The last few seasons my favourite shows have mostly sold decently to well, so sad though expected to see KoiAme barely making an impact.

The same goes for Saiki s2, though sales for s1 were also very low so I assume it’s got significant other revenue streams.

  9. something something says:

    Full list posted.

  10. Omais says:

What do u think of Mary and the witch’s flower dvd sales? I have no idea of the budget but considering it Ponoc’s first, its box office gross of $33M seems impressive to me

    • something something says:

I guess it’s ok? I don’t really have any context for what they were expecting, so I’m not sure what counts as good or bad. The box office is probably a clearer good than the disc sales. Around 30k is ~fine~ I guess but that adds up to maybe less than a tenth of the revenue of the box office (maybe a bit more if we account for Oricon undercounting). Whether this was a success or not depends more on what kind of box office numbers they wanted.
