Spring update:
Frame Arms v1 sells 7,614. 45.9% underestimated. BD-only release. This is a highly unusual series in that it should be thought of as a figure release, not so much a home video release. It comes packaged with a plamo kit and sold out months ago then not restocked (hence the estimate being screwy), so it was even handled like a figure. It’s been one of the wild cards all season.

HeroAca s2 v1 sells 2210/1935, total 4,145. Event ticket. 30.0% under/0.8% overestimated. Not too bad compared to 4,695 s1v1wk1.

Sakura Quest v1 sells 1392/182, total 1,574. Event ticket. 9.0%/39.5% overestimated.

Starmyu s2 v2 sells 3297/2736, total 6,033. Also an event ticket volume.

Clockwork Planet v2 sells 559 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Granblue v3 adds 275/241, total 36,021.

Winter update:
Kobayashi-san v5 sells 2679/390, total 3,069.

LWA v4 sells 2802/242, total 3,044.

Yowapedal NG v4 sells 981/891, total 1,872.

Past seasons:
All Out v7 sells 282 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Seitokai Yakuindomo* BD Box sells 578.

Garupan Movie adds 252 LE BDs, total 234,921.

Kizumonogatari Part III adds 2628/245 BDs, 518 DVDs, total 37,876.

Evangelion BD Box adds 416, total 26,366. Prime sale probably?

Symphogear s1 BD Box adds 613, total 3,841. This seems to be a mix of Prime Day sale + restock for the new season coming out.

NGNL BD Box adds 250, total 2,945.

  1. BlackPoint says:

Wow thoose Frame arms girl sales guess it sold that much only cuz of the kit thing cuz the anime was pretty meh and i personnaly think it doesnt deserver more then 1k average sales….

    • something something says:

It’s impossible to say how much it would have sold without the plamo kits, but I’d be surprised if it were even half this number.

  2. Tuna says:

Channel change doesnt have apprared to stimulate new folks to buy the discs of heroaca based on this data, though manga sales appeared to stay afloat with new folks buying.

I hope, in sum, it performed well enough for s3. Though aftet another half year of time bokan 24.

    • AnimePhoenix says:

Manga sales increased for HeroAca, and that’s amazing since it’s rare for a second season to do that nowadays so I think it’s a success. It’s one of WSJ’s flagship manga right now, and if Shokugeki no Souma can get a season 3, so can HeroAca.

    • Anonymous says:

Since it airs in a prime time slot wouldn’t TV ratings be important for heroaca still? At least a lot more so than regular late night anime.

      • something something says:

While it’d be most important to the TV station, it would be less so (at least, less directly) to the video disc publisher and print publisher and so on.

Of course, everyone potentially benefits to some degree by it being prime time as that gives it more visibility (in theory). More people watching = more people who could potentially go out and pick up those manga, BDs, CDs, etc. So ratings definitely matter in a way even for non-TV station members of the committee. But ratings won’t necessarily translate into increased sales of other products so it can be a complicated relationship.

For the record the HeroAca s2 committee is:

        Touhou (video/streaming)
        Yomuri Television Enterprise (TV)
        Shueisha (print)
        Bones (animation studio)
        Dentsu (advertising)
        Sony Music Entertainment (music)
        Movic (general production… stuff)

Someone there will be responsible for streaming rights, I’m just not sure who. But it’s extremely popular on CR so at least in the NA market it shold be contributing decently there.

Edit: Ultimatemegax confirmed Touhou has streaming rights, so that’s a good way of complementing any disc sales.

        • Anonymous says:

Ah, I see. So in theory if it’s popular on stream and tv it’s pretty likely we could get a third season, since those two are top of the production committee, correct? And How does a company like Dentsu factor into it? Advertising as in on tv? I’ve always wondered this since I often see them on committees.

          • Dentsu sells ads for that block and sells ads for the production elsewhere to recoup via whomever is buying them (like Toho for discs or YTV for ads for other shows and such).

In theory, if the international rights do well, it could offset anything disc-wise for Toho. YTV is constantly looking for shows to put in front of Conan (where this is airing), so they’d be willing if it does decently or not (it’s not doing that well tbh).

The others likely got enough of a boost or enough revenue that they wouldn’t mind doing this again. It’s mostly up to those companies who contributed the most this time.

  3. ayumi says:

Starmyu doing well. :) I hope a third season is coming soon.

@someathing: How is DIVE!! doing in terms of DVD/BD preorders? I watch that show but it’s getting very boring and i’m about to drop it. But i’m curious if the fujoshi audience is loving it or not.

    • something something says:

Dive is coming out in a box set, which actually just got solicited a couple hours ago. So it’s not ranking yet. It may start out strong (box set + late solicit) but check back in two weeks or so for a better idea.

      • ayumi says:

Is it because the committee is expecting it to flop? It’s rare for a show to come out in a box set.

        • something something says:

Various comments from within the industry have mentioned that going straight to a boxset suggests low sales expectations, but that’s not always true of course. In this case I think it’s simply a model that Aniplex has been toying with. In the next 24-48 hours we should see Fate/Apocrypha solicited as a box as well, as the last few Fate series have been (UBW, Zero). And those most certainly had high expectations.

It’s also a noitaminA show so I guess it’s theoretically possible they’re going after a more causal audience, but at ¥28k it’s not super bargain priced like Tsuki ga Kirei is. Though it’s still modestly cheaper than six standard singles.

    • AnimePhoenix says:

I dropped Dive too. It was so boring.

  4. Suruhi says:

You’re going to upload Seikaisuru Kado sales?

  5. Mikatsuru says:

Looking at the dailies (ranking below Eromanga sensei vol.2) it seems like Tourabu Katsugeki vol.1 is doing quite horribly in sales! Even if it has a very long tail we’re looking at a third or maybe half of Hanamaru at best? Even that seems kinda optimistic at this point…

    • something something says:

Since it’s going to be Animate-biased, pre-sale rankings (mostly online-focused) can be misleading. Like, more misleading than dailies already are. It’ll be important to see how it does over the resat of the week. And of course we;ll need to consider DVD, because unlike the other BD releases ahead of it this week (Saekano, Eromanga, Deremas) it’ll actually move a significant portion of its sales on DVD, while those are concentrating the overwhelming percentage of their sales on BD.

So I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from this just yet. Also note that this is not an event ticket volume, unlike the first volume of Hanamaru, which was.

  6. something something says:

    Full rankings posted.

  7. atala says:

Will you be tracking the Yuri on Stage release? I think it’s coming out this week

    • something something says:

I don’t track live events/concerts in my spreadsheet but do include them in the “other” section of the weekly ranking posts.

  8. Yaoi-Senpai says:

I can’t wait to see Touken ranbu, Yuri on stage and Your names sales.
