Winter update:
ACCA v1 sells 2436/1236, total 3,672. 37.0% under/46.1% overestimated. This is a great example of how hard the “high price penalty” can be to apply. Stalker’s predictions on BD were 1778 with the penalty (much too low) and 3,672 without the penalty (way way too high). Not applying the penalty is obviously incorrect, but the degree of penalty was too harsh. The DVDs meanwhile did not have the penalty, and were hugely overestimated. It’s a tricky balancing act.

LWA v1 sells 2997/297, total 3,294. 24.0%/42.9% overestimated. Looks like it was pretty Amazon-heavy. Sub-3k average is quite possible given that it’s 9 volumes long.

Ai Mai Mii s3 sells 371 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 23.0% overestimated. One shot release, so Series average: 371.

Maidragon v2 sells 3075/465, toal 3,540.

Yowapedal NG v1 adds 275 DVDs, total 4,119.

Fall update:
Tourabu v4 sells 6987/5746, total 12,733.

Euphonium s2 v5 sells 5754/496, total 6,250.

G Tekketsu s2 v4 sells 4156/558, total 4,714.
v5 sells 4043/615, total 4,658.

Show By Rock s2 v5 sells 1,629 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Long Riders v4 sells 1,024 BD, DVDs do not rank.

Magic-kyun v5 sells 700/320, total 1,020.

Matoi v2, final volume, sells 519. BD-box release, singles also but they won’t rank. Series average: 537.

All Out v4 sells 299 BD, DVDs do not rank.

Udon no Kuni v5 sells 232 BD, DVDs do not rank.

YOI v3 adds 265 BDs, total 59,718.
v4 adds 414/239, total 56,575.

Utapri s4 v4 adds 347 BDs, total 17,286.

Haikyuu s3 v5, final volume, adds 580/522, total 9,314. Series average: 10,034. It’s gone 25,514 → 15,169 → 10,034 across three seasons, but at least it’s still a 9th 10k seller for 2016. That should be the last of 2016’s 10ks.

Past seasons:
Days v7 sells 394/506, total 900.

Gangsta v4 sells 533/340, total 873.

LL Sunshine v7 adds 252, total 63,520. With the first ticket application period over, it hitting a brick wall (it did >4k per week the two weeks before this) isn’t too unexpected. We’ll see what the second round brings in a few weeks.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Hitman Reborn BD Box v1 sells 978.

Fate/GO OVA adds 281 BDs, total 24,052.

Winter starts a few more series, the end of the quarter brings some random BD box spam, and Spring starts via by far its biggest title: a shipment of mobage app codes. …Also they have BDs packaged with them I guess.

Is there any chance that YOI sales can boost a little bit?

  2. Suruhi says:

What is a high price penalty?

    • something something says:

When a DVD/BD has a price over ¥10,000, Stalker applies a penalty to the number of “points” (i.e. estimated sales) it accrues each day. The reason for this is twofold:

      1) Amazon seems to weigh price into its rankings, so if Disc A is ¥6k and sells 100 units, but Disc B is s2k and sells 100 units, Disc B will rank notably higher.
      2) Amazon tends to have the best discounts, which really adds up when you have a more expensive item, which in theory means people are more likely to buy that disc at Amazon.

Since Stalker’s Amazon-based estimates get skewed if Amazon makes up an unusually high proportion of sales, or if the ranking is inflated, it needs to adjust these releases’ estimates downward so as not to overestimate them so heavily.

Stalker does tend to overcorrect however, and ends up underestimating releases with the high price penalty more often than not, sometimes significantly. But I do think this is preferable to overestimating them, so while the formula could use some tweaking, it’s better than the alternative.
