I know this isn’t a QA thread, but I was wondering whether you have some advice on buying the LEs for Flip Flappers, this has been the only time I’ve wanted to buy the physicals of an anime (heresy?).
I’ve probably missed out on the first three first-press runs, so I was wondering if there is any good incentive to buy the later three first-press runs? The thing that confuses me is that they all cite a drawing from tanu, but I have no clue if they’re unique per disc or not. There’s also some weird stuff on Amazon too (somehow I get the impression you can still get the LEs for the first three volumes on there? there’s also some redeem reward for getting all six volumes which I don’t fully understand, although it can only be redeemed by Japanese residents :P)
Then there’s the Infinite Special Limited Set, which I would buy in a heartbeat if it had all the other collectable exclusives alongside the A3 drawing, but I can’t really tell if that’s the case. And then there’s international shipping…
Any clarification would be immensely helpful for a fellow FlFl fanatic.
Always glad to help someone buy Flip Flappers, although this advice applies equally to nearly all shows:
• First press is rarely a thing, unless you’re talking store-exclusives, which may be first press only, or otherwise limited.
• Most of the shops that have store-exclusives won’t ship outside of Japan anyway. And as you already noticed, Amazon’s “serial code” bonuses won’t ship either.
• Store-exclusives aside, the “limited edition” is almost never actually “limited”. In fact most releases these days don’t even have a non-LE edition. What you see in the product description is what you’ll get, as long as it’s in stock, even if you order a year later.
• While there are some rare exceptions, FliFla isn’t one of them.
So in other words unless you’re using a forwarding service to buy a retailer-exclusive (like from Animate or Gamers or Softmap or Toranoana or Amazon or whatever), your safest bet as an importer is to just find the LE version (listed as 初回生産限定版 or 限定版) on Amazon or HMV and buy that. It’ll have everything, and will be the cheapest.
(There might not even be any of those indicators on it, because there might only be one version at all. Just make sure you avoid anything marked 通常版. Or another way of putting it: always buy the most expensive version. It sounds like a joke but it’s the easiest way to identify the LE BD.)
Just avoid the 【Amazon.co.jp限定】s on Amazon unless you have some way of collecting on the extra, *or* unless it’s something they’re packing into the physical box directly. Anything with シリアルコード is a definite no-go without some proxy setup.
As for the Infinite version, I’m guessing you’d need a proxy there too. As for what it includes though, it’ll be the same as all other retailers, except with their store-exclusive extra thrown in. They won’t include other stores’ exclusives, but then again that’s why they’re ‘exclusives”. The only way to get everything would be to buy a full set of discs from every retailer!
extremely light month, especially given *all* my figures were delayed to the next. (of note, I’m not looking forward to said next month because of that, as it’s already super packed for me to begin with)
