  1. Yaoi-Senpai says:

I’m so happy to see YOI vol.1 and 2 selling so good!

Guys, how much do you think the 3rd volume will make?

    • ayumi says:

My prediction for vol. 3 is 48,000 first week.

      • Cyssa says:

God bless your words, ayumi-san! For me, if it selling above 40k first week I’ll smile until next month.

        • ayumi says:

I hope I’m right! My predictions for vol.1 and vol.2 were pretty close. (Very proud! that’s because I stalked the rankings a little too much!)

I just can’t believe YOI is on the same level as Code Geass (maybe higher after all 6 volumes are done selling)

    • JJ says:

      35k-40k week 1 I think

    • AnimePhoenix says:

      I hope it’s 40k. I will be so happy!

      • something something says:

If we *do* see 40k wk1, I think that pretty much locks it in as best seller of 2016, particularly if it can climb near 50k total. Presumably v4-6 would maintain a reasonably similar level, and then we’re probably talking about a >50k average.

        • Ejc says:

I’m sure many of us would’ve never expected Love Live Sunshine to not be the best seller of 2016, but clearly Yuri on Ice is the dark horse of 2016 that everyone was hoping for, and it does have a good chance of taking best seller of 2016. It is also obvious that a significant proportion of the Love Live fanbase do not support Aqours as they did with μ’s. Instead of the 50,000+ unique buyers as we saw with Love Live Season 2, we will probably only see around 35,000 unique buyers for Love Live Sunshine.

Still, a hypothetical Season 3 with μ’s is always a curiosity that we will never be able to experience since μ’s has disbanded. Clearly μ’s is still incredibly popular if we look at the sales of the μ’s Live collection BD at 64,761 sales and the μ’s Final LoveLive BD/DVD at 86,163/93,697 Day 1/Day 2 sales.

          • hpulley says:

Don’t give up on LoveLive Sunshine yet! The volume 5-7 ticket events were finally revealed to be 3 live concerts in the Happy Party Train Tour! This was announced at the end of their first live concert today, along with season 2 being in fall 2017. So I wouldn’t count LoveLive out of being the best sales of 2016 and 2017.

            • JJ says:

Oh wow! As a Love Live fan, if they can’t get #1 with 5 freaking concert event tickets, something has gone seriously wrong haha!

            • something something says:

Ah yes there’s the BS I expected. Easily guaranteed #1 then, not that the comparison is even meaningful anymore.

              • hpulley says:

In fact three more two-day concert events! So that will be 4 2-day concerts from event tickets in S1 of LLSS. I guess we can expect something similar for S2. Concert tickets for the win.

      • Yaoi-Senpai says:

I checked in Amazon JP and sadly it’s not in the top of best seller, plus the 3rd volume DVD is going to be “out of stock” soon. I think they did less than 10k copies for the DVD because there is no event ticket. So I hope it sell atleast more than 35k copies.

  2. hpulley says:

The Yuyushiki OVA better sell well enough for season 2! The OVA is gorgeous but only 27 minutes more Yuyushiki is both more than I could ever hope for after the first season and yet not enough to be fully satisfying. Gorgeous though… if there is a season 2 I hope it has this budget per episode. Unlikely but while I’m dreaming about season 2 I might as well make it a doozy.

    • something something says:

Well the good news is something like Yuyushiki doesn’t need more budget to look extra good (tho is always looked great), it just needs time. The bad news is producing for weekly TV broadcasts generally doesn’t allow that much time!

I haven’t seen it yet (Amazon won’t ship mine for a few days yet and I’m waiting for subs anyway) but if it’s a step up, that’s nice to hear since it was already gorgeous.

      • hpulley says:

Just got it today! Mine actually had to wait for Macross Delta and LoveLive Sunshine which come out on the 24th but CDJapan ships VERY early so I got them on pre-release day and Yuyushiki just the day after its release day. Amazon wouldn’t have got me this package until next week so I didn’t worry about the discount. DHL has also been losing some of my packages in their warehouse for days lately which doesn’t give me confidence though they shipped me a package fine yesterday.

The dailies for Yuyushiki look high, above Jojo and Haikyuu both days and above Kubikiri Cycle on release day but lower on pre-release day. The Stalker estimates were promising too.

If not an actual season two, I pray they might release more OVAs. Then they have more time for quality than with a TV schedule. An OVA every few months or even every few years like the ’90s would still make me happy with series like this one.

        • something something says:

Yeah its pre-sale looked pretty good. Jojo moves less than 6k BDs wk1 and Haikyuu may be below 5k, so I definitely did want to see it above those.

But being ahead of *everything* else on release day is really surprising. Zaregoto should pull in about 10-11k BDs. Tourabu is unknown because this is the first without event tickets but maybe it’s down around 7k. I imagine Yuyushiki won’t hold up as well the rest of the week (especially with Feb 24 releases hitting pre-sale on Feb 23) but… yeah. Should definitely be able to hit 7k wk1, maybe higher.

          • something something says:

While Feb 24 releases of course took the lead on pre-sale, Yuyushiki remained above all Feb 22 releases except Zaregoto. Nice.

It’s OOS at Amazon already though. Mar 13 restock… though they usually restock earlier than their initial estimates. Gamers is OOS too.

            • hpulley says:

Event ticket in the OVA for a May 7th event. I sure hope they announce more anime there, even if it’s just a second OVA.

The bonus CD is a drama CD! I thought it was a radio CD like with the TV anime but it’s a drama CD! Much better than radio if you understand Japanese though honestly their radio CDs were entertaining too, better than most. To me, a drama CD is almost as good as another episode for a series like this so this is a nice surprise.

  3. cocoa_hoto says:

Is there anyway to estimate sale of Kemono Friends?

    • something something says:

I don’t know of a Stalker-like site that estimates book sales, so no. Though even if it were released as a pure BD, it wouldn’t be tracked by this site.

  4. David Smith says:

    > 2017/02/22 Mob Psycho 100 v6
Only 1 week left and my long suffering will come to an end. Sigh, my poor Mob, sells below 5k average. And I can’t even track the manga sales. Hopefully Bones gets some money because they did such a lovely job for this series.

    • something something says:

To be fair, I would kill for the shows I like to sell almost 5k like Mob Psycho, lol. It’s also getting a little screwed by just missing thresholds for wk2s and the lack of extended rankings these days. It’d definitely be a 5k title if we had those still.

We have all the weekly top 300 data from v1 (oricon says ranked 5 times, and we have 4 weeks + per-series ranking to fill in 5th). But we only have 2 of 4 (BD) and 2 of 3 (DVD) for v2, and 1 of 2 for BD and DVD for v3-5.
