Fall update:
Tourabu v1 sells 10358/8718, total 19,076. 145.6/138.0% underestimated. Event ticket. Note that the underestimation is exaggerated because Stalker never tracked the Amazon-exclusive edition. Even so, this is more than doubling the estimate and that’s what you expect from an Animate-biased title. Presumably DMM helped somewhat for this particular title too. We could be looking at a 25k v1 if it has a good tail.

Saiki Kusuo no Sai-nan v1 sells 709/190, total 899. 5.5% under/58.8% overestimated.

Haikyuu s3 v1 adds 688/751, total 11,546. Not a very big wk2 for a sports show, so there might not be a big tail. 10k average looking more dubious.

Summer update:
LL Sunshine v1 adds 310, total 83,580.
v2 adds 442, total 60,608.
v3 adds 536, total 32,435.

Past seasons:
Bungou SD v6, final volume, adds 240 DVDs, total 5,853 in wk4. This means it added 267 DVDs in wk3. Series average: 5,299.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Gintama’ BD Box sells 2,895. There’s a second box in February which has the latter half of Gintama’ plus Gintama’ Enchousen.

Zaregoto v2 adds 439 BDs, total 16,943.

Danmachi OVA adds 300 BDs, total 4,241.

  1. Gintoki_KotAro says:

I wonder about the reason for declining haikyuu sales

good sales for Gintama BD box

    • something something says:

Just the fact that it’s three seasons in and has more competition now, I guess. s2 was already a big decline on s1, and we just keep seeing more sports shows. Like, I could see it maybe doing a little better if YOI weren’t crushing everything this season. Though I think it would have declined anyway.

  2. Shiro says:

Why is Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru so popular in Japan?

    • Ejc says:

Touken Ranbu is the 2nd most popular DMM game behind KanColle. I think it underperformed based on how big the browser game fanbase is, but obviously not as much as KanColle underperformed. It will be interesting to see how the 2017 anime adaptation by ufotable will fare, and whether KanColle will get this sort of treatment in the future as well considering how much of a disaster the KanColle anime adaptation was.

    • hikari says:

Yup….like what Ejc said, I guess probably because this is the SOL version it’s sales still not managed to maximized all of the game’s fanbase. Looking just how big its fanbase is in japan, I could actually see TouRanbu anime averaging (yup averaged) around 40-50K if it manage to maximized all of its potential buyer/fanbase (well…it’ll probably reserved for the Ufotable ones, though that still also depend on the story and executions).

Still is great to see that its sales for the 1st event ticket vol is underestimated heavily by Amazon since this is obviously one of Animate bias title, it’s just been kind of overshadowed heavily by both YOI and Utapri (especially YOI) on Animate, too. Depend on the dropped or averaged of the other non ticket/sought-after bonuses vols, I guess overall it’ll probably averaging around 15-almost 20K.

    • Momo says:

Bear in mind also that all six of Hanamaru’s CD singles (OP&EDs) are averaging sales of ~30k each. That’s higher than Utapri’s songs (for Season 4) and at the high end of male idol titles (comparable to Ensemble Stars and IDOLiSH7). BD/DVD sales (for vol.1&2) might’ve been even higher if the event tickets were promoted as a concert event (similar to Utapri). Not sure if the seiyuu attending the event will be performing any songs, but I’m assuming they aren’t (or maybe just one or two songs) since it wasn’t mentioned on their website.

      • hikari says:

Yeah….especially for this season, I observe that that the majority of their singles are higher than Utapri S4. If based on what you said, then I also wonder why they didn’t do or held some kind of concert event (like Utapri) for their event ticket vols considering Tourabu already had their own succesfull musical events, stage play, etc. Obviously at least that’ll probably managed to boost the sales a bit more (for vol 1&2).

  3. Anon says:

I find it amazing how you managed to be only off by 1K with Touken Ranbu’s sales considering how hard is to predict these kind of titles.

I wonder if the fanbase is treating this adaptation as a “First Season”, meaning the Ufotable anime might see a drop. Interesting numbers regardless.

(Also, please delete the previous comment, phoneposting is hard)

    • Anonymous says:

I believe that prediction of 18k for volume 1 of Touken Ranbu was for total sales, not first week.

      • something something says:

Yeah, my 18k guess was for vol. 1 total sales, so it was still pretty low considering it’s over 19k just wk1. If v1 has a strong tail it’ll get to maybe 23k over time.

I might have guessed a little higher if I knew ahead of time that Stalker had totally missed the Amazon-exclusive versions in its estimates (someone mentioned it in a comment after I posted), but I still probably wouldn’t have guessed above 20k total, so I’d still be low since I expect it to go a few thousand beyond that.

But, hey, it’s nice when something sells *more* than expected for once. Just too bad it’s not a show I was watching.

[Albeit, “more than” expectations that were lower than what it “could have” sold based on the size of the franchise, so I’d still call these results somewhat middling. The live event disc released a little while ago did like 40 or 50k! It really is impossible to predict what percentage of a fanbase will convert to disc buyers, though. As we saw with Kancolle, sometimes a show that’s got potential to be monstrously huge just ends up being “pretty big”. What kind of ticket drop Tourabu Hanamaru sees is also the huge open question right now. And, of course, the question of how many fans care about the SOL adaptation and are really just waiting for the action adaptation next year.]

  4. CNL899 says:

Being overshadowed by its peers UtaPri and YoI in charts may have caused a lot of people to underestimate Touken Ranbu, in my opinion. Good on you for not falling for it!

  5. Gintoki_KotAro says:

there will be 6th season of Natsume yuujinchou in 2017

did you think it was spilt cour or the 5th season was successfully to get 6th season? even the bluray/dvd disc didn’t release

    • something something says:

This is a very quick announcement, so whether it’s formally split cour (i.e. s6 airs in Spring) or not, it was clearly a decision they’d made a while ago.

Well, more Natsume is good. It’s one of extremely few late night franchises with a male lead that I’ll always come back for more of.

Now I’m trying to think of any other late night franchises that made it to six full seasons of at least one cour of full length episodes each. (Otherwise the winner would be Teekyuu, with 8 seasons and 2 spinoffs, albit very short episodes.)

Symphogear is announced through 5, so maybe it’ll get a 6th one day.

Nanoha is up to 5, (1st, A’s, StrikerS, ViVid, ViVid Strike) with a 6th planned (ViVid S2 next year), but it got there with pseudo-spinoffs. Not quite the same as what Natsume has done with the same lead character, setting, and premise every season.

      Anything I’m missing?

      • AholePony says:

I can think of several 4 season runs, beyond that it gets slim. Monogatari is pseudo-there but Koyomi was shorts….. Theres that one shoujo series that was never subbed that people love which had several seasons but it might have only been 4.

        • something something says:

Monogatari should get there if Final is two seasons. Core entries count Bake, Nise, Second, Owari. Koyomi + Tsuki + Neko Kuro aren’t full seasons but add up to one together, so it’s kinda sorta 5-ish.

Which shoujo series are you referring to?

  6. AnimePhoenix says:

Good to see TouRabu sell nearly 20k. It’s a lovely little show. Didn’t get much attention in the west I guess, considering all the comments on MAL, ANN and other places with people being surprised to see it on top. I’d gladly take a season 2 of cute swords doing cute things.

  7. something something says:

    Updated with the full ranking.

And now for some Flip Flaps.

  8. NukaCola says:

Oh next week a chance to see how well a 4K Ultra BD will do.

Saiki K is so low, I wonder if the writer will joke about the unpopularity of it sad.

Is Zestiria the X just a box release? The list doesnt include anything after it like V1 or boxset etc.

  9. NATAPORI says:

How much sell for YOI when I first saw Touken ranbu sell? I can’t wait to see it.I’m still hope to more and more sell and may be pass Utapri Star Legend in a day.

    • AnimePhoenix says:

Same! I really want it to sell more than UtaPri after how disappointing I found season 4 of UtaPri to be. Season 3 was meh too but I thought season 4 would be better.

I’m praying for 30k sales because YOI DESERVES EVERY BIT OF SALES IT CAN GET!

I’m spending my Christmas money on more YOI merch because it’s had such an affect on me, like no anime ever has.

      • NATAPORI says:

I can tell this YOI so ver very fun.The story have fun drama exciting romantic and more.Challenge scene is so good especially skating scene so beautiful too.I trust fangirl all worldwide came to support this series.I can’t imagine for this before but I can tell this series deserve to be top anime of the year.I think this is Top 10 anime in this year too.

        • AnimePhoenix says:

Exactly! The story is fun, has the right amount of drama but not unnecessary drama, cute and hot boys, beautiful friendships, beautiful skating, wonderful music…I could go on! Yes, this anime deserves to be in the top this year!

  10. GNozaki says:

Seems that on 21 started the sale of most v1 of the current season.. gonna be interesting.
