Summer update:
Boueibu s2 v1 sells 2014/3395, total 5,409. 194.9/104.0% underestimated. Event ticket. Only 6 discs less than s1v1wk1. Like I’ve been saying, this one was always nothing on Amazon but was still in the running to be a 5k seller because it’s so underestimated, and this season went extreme with that. It’s twice as underestimated as s1v1. Depending on the tail, we’re still looking at this, New Game, or Mob Psycho 100 as #3 of the season.

Qualidea v1 sells 1052/484, total 1,536. 30.0/15.2% underestimated. Event ticket.

Active Raid 2nd v1 sells 1,283 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 29.9% overestimated. Down from 1,870 s1v1wk1, or 1,692 if you exclude the DVDs which we only got in the extended ranking.

Hatsukoi Monster v1 sells 742/516, total 1,258. 9.0% under/11.2% overestimated. Event ticket.

Battery v1 adds 256 DVDs, total 1,634.

Spring update:
Flying Witch v4 sells 2713/321, total 3,034. If it gets a wk2 it should stay under a 10% vol-on-vol drop again. A 3.5k average is probably not possibly anymore but 3.4k may be doable…

Super Lovers v4 sells 888/942, total 1,830.

Sakamoto v4 sells 332 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Re:Zero v3 adds 243 BDs, total 9,935. One more to hit 10k, even if it doesn’t make it we should see it in the yearlies since the BD is over 9k now.

HeroAca v4 adds 221 BDs, total 2,739.

v1s unranked in any format:
Kyoukai no Rinne Season 2 (DVD-only, so sub-230)

Past seasons:
Osomatsu-san v9, final volume, adds 230 DVDs, total 43,492. Series average: 64,798. Looking to crack 65k with yearlies if possible.

Haikyuu s2 v9, final volume, adds 827/737, total 11,800. Series average: 14,394. Down from 25,514 s1.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Starmyu OVA v2, final volume, sells 3890/2723, total 6,613. Series average: 7,214. Keeps it just ahead of the TV series’ 7,131 average.

Yosuga no Sora BD Box sells 1,452.

Garupan Movie adds 328 LE BDs, total 224,632.

Euphonium Movie adds 268 BDs, total 6,223.

Majestic Prince BD Box adds 218, total 1,300.

  1. ried says:

Whoa, that’s great for Boueibu to drop that little from s1v1wk1 (though I guess it’s too early to see if the overall sequel drop is really that negligible?). I do hope the rest of the volumes don’t drop too much though, this season has been great, even better than the first IMO.

  2. derpinat0r says:

ahh… too bad re:zero last episode didn’t give it a boost like i hoped to.

  3. Natapori says:

I think Love Live ! Sunshine or Tsukiuta will Top 1 and 2 bestseller this season.

    • AnimePhoenix says:

About Tsukiuta, it’s not on Stalker so I have no idea how well it’s going to do. What makes you think it’ll be #2? I’m curious~

    • hayate197 says:

Love live sunshine is going to be on the top, no doubt. But tsukiuta, as someanithing has said before, we dont know whether it will be reported to oricon. And tsukiuta is animate exclusive, even it are ranking quite high right now in animate ranking, I am not sure it can climb to top 2 of the summer season. However, I hope tsukiuta sell well. I love their CD seriea so much

      • something something says:

Tsukiuta comes out in a few days and is still nowhere to be found in Oricon’s database, so yeah I’m pretty sure at this point we’ll never know how it sells.

        • Natpori says:

I;m not sure but When I comepare fanclub base It seem Tsukiuta more than B-Project.It Just my opinion.I’m looking forard to see reult too.I love both Tsukiuta and B-Project so hope to see next season.

          • something something says:

What I mean is, it could be selling great, but based on past experience of how Animate-exclusives are handled, Oricon will very likely not report its sales. So we won’t know how it sells, whether it does well or badly. (If you end up seeing a sequel, then we can say “well enough” I guess, but that’s about it!)

        • Tarot says:

Do you think the sales for the OP and ED could be an indicator of how the Tsukiuta will do?

          • something something says:

While popular shows are more likely to have popular OP/EDs, simply because more people have seen and like them, no we can’t really guess at DVD/BD sales based on that.

            • hpulley says:

Macross Delta is a good example here. The first album is still selling, now 120K units! But the anime sold about 1/10th that amount. Other shows it is the opposite, good Bluray/DVD sales but poor CD sales. This is even a case where the seiyuu (mostly other than Kumo Kumo) sing the songs too so you’d expect the sales to be closely related but nope, they aren’t.

              • Hahalollawl says:

Yeah, but to be fair, Macross is kinda known for its music eh? Do you think Macross contributed to the development of the idol craze or is more of a result of it?

Btw I had not been watching Berserk (weird, because I watched the previous anime, and thought it was pretty good) so I had no idea yanaginagi sang the ED. Were you aware of this?

                • Ejc says:

Probably Macross Frontier I would say was a huge contributor, and it wasn’t even technically an idol anime.

However, I think Love Live is also a big contributor, because it started from nothing in Dengeki G’s magazine to become one of the largest late-night Anime franchises, who have performed at the year end NHK Kouhaku, which is more usual for mainstream artists, and have also performed at the massive Tokyo Dome. Many idol franchises nowadays have probably taken inspiration from this literal rags to riches that is Love Live.

                  • Progeusz says:

Except Love Live only appeared after iM@S already had big fanbase and it is The iDOLM@STER which should be named first and foremost in the talk about contribution to development of idol craze.

                    • something something says:

I’d add that, given how a majority of idol anime are male idols and aimed at women, it’s absolutely crucial to give Utapri a huge nod. Like Idolmaster, it came out in Summer 2011 (it also had 7 or 8 games already by that point). It’s still by far the biggest male idol anime.

So Summer 2011 was definitely the genesis of the anime idol boom (LL, obviously, has expanded it further). Both big idol game franchises made the leap to anime at the same point. The genre was largely irrelevant as a force in anime before that. I’m sure something about the explosive rise of mobage in the last few years factors heavily into all of this too.

      • Ejc says:

Well, it looks like Oricon may have forgotten about Tsukiuta.’s database entry. It ranked on pre-release day (Sep 29th) at 5th for DVDs All-Genre ranking and 7th for BDs All-Genre ranking.

        • something something says:

Good, it would be annoying for them to just totally miss an Animate exclusive again.

And New Game finally gets a day above Jojo and Haifuri, which it really needs if it has any hope of even meeting its estimate. I still think it’ll come in under 6k though. =(

  4. AnimePhoenix says:

    PRAISE THE LORD!

Boueibu S2 volume 1, thank goodness! I was SO SCARED it was going to bomb because I was checking Animate every day and never saw it in the top 50. I was so worried. I’m still scared about what the drop for v2+ will be but I think it won’t be as harsh as what Stalker is saying…600 copies for v2!

And S2 v1 had stock issues just like last season. It’s only properly back in stock as of today on Amazon. Dunno about other sites.

Starmyu OVA 2 did well, yay!

  5. Mami Kawada Lover says:

    >Qualidea v1 sells 1052/484, total 1,536. 30.0/15.2% underestimated. Event ticket.
Welp, Aniplex must not be happy with this. With all the names attached to it, they probably expected a better performance.

    • AholePony says:

It reminded me quite a bit of A-1’s Gunslinger Stratos, which only recorded a whole 702 discs according to the series list here. Qualidea had ‘ok’ but not great art and design, the characters were ‘ok’ but not developed that much (very short back stories), and I personally never seem to enjoy shows where there’s no main character. I think you need a deft touch from the script writers and directors for the no MC thing to “work” and Qualidea didn’t have it for me. If they had settled on a central roll and thus set the perspective from their point of view (Maihime’s back story seemed solid and ripe for more exposition), I think it would have been a more focused series and who knows, might have sold better for it.

If you look at Ange Vierge which also had a large-ish cast with individual “focus” episodes”, but most of the story was framed around Saya Sougetsu, it just works a lot better.

Anyway Qualidea already has 2x the numbers of Gunslinger Stratos so maybe Sony/Aniplex/A-1 can call it a success haha.

    • Urizithar says:

It just wasn’t good show. The characters and plot twist that everyone can predict miles away weren’t enough to sell 12 episodes. Especially with those huge quality problems in later half of season. It wasn’t anything great but I kind of liked early episodes and by the end I sadly regreted watching it.

  6. uchiha madara says:

excited to see how MP vol.1 will do,also re:zero

  7. BlackPoint says:

Just dayum thats some really long list for the next week XDDD

  8. Anon says:

Kind of a shame the ending of Re Zero didn’t give it the bump I was waiting for but considering where the Anime ended it’s not surprising. They had something good in hands but in the end decided to play it safe which isn’t an entirely bad decision but alas.

    Let’s see how v4 does.

  9. Ejc says:

As per the September Monthly Series Ranking on Oricon Youtaiju (2016/08/29~2016/09/25):
    http://i.imgur.com/sMGNBBH.png

B-PROJECT is at 16,409, which means that Vol.1 sold 131 copies within the week of 2016/09/19~25. Since only the BD has charted more than 3 weeks according to the Oricon website, then we can say the 131 copies are all on BD.
