Spring update:
Magi Sinbad sells 570/500, total 1,070. 103.6/147.5% underestimated. One-shot release, so this is also the average.

Gyakuten Saiban v1 sells 358 BDs, DVDs do not rank. 42.6% underestimated.

Re:Zero v3 sells 7118/928, total 8,046. Again, wk1 beats the previous on both formats, though it’ll have a shorter tail to adjust for that. Will clear 9k this volume though.
v1 adds 317 BDs, total 11,533 in wk10.
v2 adds 369 BDs, total 10,278.

Delta v2 sells 6933/925, total 7,858. 21.4% drop on v1wk1, and it’ll be harsher because v1 got a lot from wk2 and there’s no reason wby v2 would. Goodbye slim 10k hopes for Delta, and with it goodbye 10k hopes for ANY Spring show. Re:Zero won’t be able to keep it up either so nothing has a chance.

Haifuri v3 sells 6266/1071, total 7,337. This continues to hold up very well.

Jojo Pt4 v3 sells 5731/1278, total 7,009.

Kabaneri v2 sells 4486/627, total 5,113. 25.7% drop on v1wk1. This one will barely cling to 6k average, probably.

Flying Witch v3 sells 2967/355, total 3,322. DVDs actually made the cutoff after all. This is slightly higher than v2wk1 in both formats. Might hold onto a 3.5k average which I guess counts as pretty decent these days… but that will likely require all vols to get a wk2, which isn’t guaranteed. Still, it’s a very consistent release so far.

Stray Dogs v3 sells 1567/1715, total 3,282.

Bakuon v3 sells 1757/369, total 2,126.

Asterisk s2 v3 sells 1411/374, total 1,785.

Kuma Miko v2, final volume, sells 1,488 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,784.

Netoge v3 sells 1,483 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Anne Happy v3 sells 1,075 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Hundred v3 sells 815 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Tanaka-kun v3 sells 661 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Shonen Maid v3 sells 528 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Conrevo s2 v3 sells 486 as a BD-only release.

Sakamoto v3 sells 359 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

v1s unranked in either format (349 DVD/306 BD):
Momokuri
Onigiri
Usakame
Wagamama High Spec

Winter update:
Gate s2 v6, final volume, sells 3822/798, total 4,620. Series average: 4,759. Down from 6,093 s1. This one is good example of the lack of extended rankings at work. s1v1-6 and s2v1 had extended rankings. They ranked 5, 4, 3, 5, 4, 3, 5 weeks respectively. s2v2-6 were after the extended rankings died. They ranked 1, 2, 2, 1, 1 weeks. It might have only added another 300 or so to s2’s average, but still, just getting 1-2 weeks when we used to get 3-5 is a shame.

Shirayuki-hime s2 v6, final volume, sells 1039/670, total 1,709. Series average: 1,911. Basically unchanged from s1’s 1,999.

Bahamut v6, final volume, sells 1255/439, total 1,694. Series average: 1,847.

Prince of Stride v6, final volume, sells 802/648, total 1,450. Series average: 2,289.

Schwarzesmarken v6, final volume, sells 1,114 as a BD-only release. Series aveage: 1,220.

Ansakyou s2 v6 sells 527/539, total 1,066.

Aokana v6, final volume, sells 1,021 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,021.

Dimension W v6, final volume, sells 761 as a BD-only release. Series average: 853.

Pandora v4 sells 643 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Haruchika v6, final volume, sells 409 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 893.

Past seasons:
Osomatsu-san v8, final volume, sells 16226/17059, total 33,285. Series average: 63,431. Should end betwen 64-65k depending on whether other volumes get some kind of completion boost.
v7 adds 714/644, total 44,952.

G Tekketsu v9, final volume, sells 5813/750, total 6,563. Series average: 9,026. Just barely beats G Reco by 14, though it’ll get a wk2 and add a little to that, maybe getting to 9.1k.

Haikyuu! s2 v8 adds 862/763 DVDs, total 11,763.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Wixoss Movie sells 3543/515, total 4,058.

Ai Yori Aoshi BD box sells 756. Includes both seasons.

Litbus EX BD Box sells 490. Oh so they split Refrain’s BD box into separate boxes for the TV eps and the on-disc specials.

Chaika BD box sells 489. Includes both seasons.

Garupan Movie adds 477 LE BDs, total 223,100.

Kizumonogatari Part I adds 757 LE BDs, total 49,456.

Persona 3 Movie 4 adds 353 LE BDs, total 22,726,

  1. something something says:

RIP Spring, virtually no chance at a 10k now.

    • Mari says:

I think Fall season will what you’re looking for, but I don’t think the male otaku shows will contribute.

    • AnimePhoenix says:

Well, at least Summer has LL!SS and MAYBE B-Project. Depends on how harsh the ticket drop will be after v3.

But yeah, wow, RIP Spring. But thank you Spring for letting Joker Game do well.

    • BlackPoint says:

I still hope Re:Zero will do the 10k, think it has the chance to keep a balanced line of sales with around 10k~9k with the next volumes, v3 shuold add next week around 1.5k etc which would make it reach the 10k mark

      • BlackPoint says:

ah and you also need to update the sales for v1 and v2 at the 2016 list of volume sales :)

      • something something says:

v2 added 1000 BDs wk2 and I wouldn’t expect v3 to do more than that (let alone 50% more). Even if DVDs make the rankings. So 1.5k wk2 sounds pretty high. Remember, while v2 should hit 10k this week, it wasn’t quite up to 10k even as of wk4, and that’s with wks2-3 of DVDs filled in via per-series rankings (which we can’t calculate accurately once 3 volumes are out so v3 probably won’t benefit from it).

v3 could in theory reach 10k, but for that to happen before the yearly lists will require some luck with favorably low weekly thresholds, or a big bump to all volumes later on (when it finishes maybe). v3 is already starting ~900 discs ahead of v3 so its tail should be considerably shorter.

    • Roaming Phantom says:

Spring is the slowest season this year =/
With this estimation, what would be Spring’s best selling series?

  2. Tiago says:

After seeing no drop from the event tickets, Re:Zero still has a chance in my eyes. v3 had stock problems or ir would be even higher.

  3. Progeusz says:

Damn, Re:zero’s overestimation was much bigger this time, over 29.5% as compared to 13.6% of v2 and ~16% of v1. Maybe order cancellations and re-orders later on? If it followed previous trend it would safely sell ~9k. Still, v3 selling better than both v1 and v2 in respective wk1s is a great result, regardless of circumstances.

Nice to see Flying Witch not dropping, even though it deserves at least a triple of its sales.

    Poor Wixoss.

    • something something says:

It’s been out longer, so it’s gathered points for longer. Often that makes later volumes more overestimated (or less underestimated). Buyers may also shift to be more Amazon-biased as more casual fans of the show decide to pick it up and just go for the cheapest option. I don’t think this volume could realistically have done better.

      • Progeusz says:

I know but jump from 13.6 to 29.5 overestimation is really big, normally differences in over/underestimations between volumes are lower than 10% when show isn’t completely crazy or some low seller.
Not to mention v3 doesn’t have the event ticket, so if anything, it should have lower percentage of Amazon buyers or at least counteract the shift to some extent.

        • something something says:

I’m not sure that event ticket volumes are more Amazon biased than non-ticket volumes, but I don’t really have a good way to run the numbers.

          • Progeusz says:

I think it would make sense as someone who mainly wants the event ticket would go for cheaper option (usually amazon), similar to how event ticket volumes sell more DVDs that those without.

  4. Anon says:

    >re zero v3 8,046

That’s a lot less than I was expecting. Unless the finale is somewhat explosive and puts all the volumes in the top 20 for days then

    • Re:Zero says:

What were you expecting? the show went from a 3k prediction in spring to selling almost 10k now.

Vol. 2 should be hitting 10k this week.

    • Tarot says:

It had a better first week than both V1 and V2 where both had event tickets. I don’t know but your expectations seems unreasonably high.

      • Anon says:

No no, it’s definitely doing better than expected but it was my only hope for a 10K this season.

        • Lloyd says:

Assuming that volume 1 will reach 12k, volume 2 will reach 11k and Volume 3 will reach 10k in another 6 months this leaves us with 9k needed for every other volume. According to how the estimates rise ( Volume 4 is already on a course that could surpass even Volume 3 ) it’s possible that these volume can reach 9k eventually. Considering that the author will power out the light novel volumes in a monthly pace these BD volumes should also get a decent post anime advertisement. There is still a realistic chance until we see how volume 5 ( first one to not benefit directly from the anime’s airing time or immediate anime end boost ) does.

  5. hpulley says:

I find it a bit odd that the 50,096 copies of LoveLive! μ’s Live Collection! was listed as being by μ’s like their live concert BDs rather than being called animation, as it was 100% animation. It was all their animated PVs and dance numbers from LoveLive! Season 1, Season 2 and LoveLive The School Idol Movie. I guess that’s how Bandai listed it.

    • Ejc says:

It is a strange case indeed, because usually discs handled by Bandai Visual are labelled as Animation by Oricon, but the μ’s Live collection was labelled as μ’s by Oricon, which is usually done for discs handled by Lantis.

  6. Invalidname says:

Schwarzesmarken wraps up with less than 1/4 the sales of franchise cousin Total Eclipse… that’s got to pretty much put to bed any hope of ever getting the original Muv-Luv VN trilogy adapted to anime (especially given how many cours it would take). I didn’t import Schwarzesmarken, but if someone does bring it out here (probably Sentai?), I’d definitely get it.

    • BlackPoint says:

The anime for sure deserved much better sales….was really surprised when i saw the 1st volume sales of a muv-luv franchise a guy would think that it would sell much more from such a popular VN

  7. Vance says:

something, what effect do you think a tribute to A Dog Of Flanders would have on Re: zero’s sales? Given that we already have a ringtone from the anime and Subaru naming his land dragon, Patrasche, do you think it’s possible Re: zero has setup a wave of nostalgia for viewers next week? If you google it, you can check to see how A Dog Of Flanders ends, and the likelihood of a similar event happening just increased 1000% with the end of Re: zero’s episode 22.

    • something something says:

I don’t know? I’m not familiar with the Dog of Flanders story (and don’t want any hints as to how Re:Zero will go so I don’t want to look it up). I’d guess nobody is going to make a purchasing decision based on this though. If something happens that drives up sales it’ll just be a matter of how well it fits in with Re:Zero and how well executed it is.

      • Vance says:

It’s understandable that you don’t want to look it up, but I want to mention that A Dog Of Flanders is very well-known by people who grew up in Japan within the last 50 years or so. The source material is from England, but exposure to it in Japan is very high, being akin to a children’s classic.

        • something something says:

Yeah I vaguely know it’s been referenced in a lot of shows and is an oddly big thing in Japan. Just not sure it would have so big an impact as to affect sales tho. Granted, there won’t be any way to know for sure. If it has an emotional episode and sees a bump, that might have happened without any references.

  8. something something says:

Updated with the full list. I’ll check last week’s per-series ranking for any additions tonight.

    • something something says:

Checked the per-series ranking for the week of 2016-08-15 but we can’t make any additions based on it because it’s unclear what volumes they’d go towards. These rankings are only really going to be useful for v1s and occasionally v2s and movies.

  9. BlackPoint says:

Sweet v2 made the 10k ranga and v1 still clinging in the top100 barely after 10wks really amazing and i guess probably the last time but else ye still amazing to see it sell every week around 300~ more and will probably sell like 100~ which we wont see since it wont make the top100 for quite some weeks *-*

  10. Ejc says:

Pretty sad year for sales, when there are only 2 confirmed big hits, which are Love Live! SunShine and UtaPri S4. Touken Ranbu could also be a big hit… but it completely depends on how the anime is executed, as we have seen what a subpar anime adaptation ended up doing to KanColle’s potential sales.

For just 10K+ average hits, I only see B-Pro having a chance at 10K average for Summer besides Love Live! SunShine of course. I don’t see anything in Spring getting a 10K average (I think ReZero will not make it in the end), and Koiyomimonogatari did save Winter, but is not a TV Anime.

  11. Ejc says:

As per the August Monthly Series Ranking on Oricon Youtaiju (2016/08/01~2016/08/28):
    http://i.imgur.com/WFJeBYR.png

Macross Delta sold 9,304. For the week of 2016/08/22~28, Macross Delta Vol.2 sold 7,858, which means that Vol.1 sold 1,446 copies from 2016/08/01~28. As of the week of 2016/07/25~31, Macross Delta Vol.1 was at 12,304 (with both BD and DVD appearing in the ranking), so that Macross Delta Vol.1 must have sold 13,750 as of 2016/08/28.

    • something something says:

Hm, now to decide where to put the missing discs.

Through 8/28 would take it up to wk6. The only weeks we’re missing in there are DVD wk3 and BD wk5. At that point it had 13,301 known sales including per-series weekly additions..

The gap to make up is 449. The DVD threshold in wk3 was 220 so I guess it has to be less than that. Which means 230 BDs wk5. Which is possible since the BD threshold that week was 259.

So the total now (including wk7 from the per-series) is 13,856.
