    > GuP: Total with original: 46,378

GuP finally surpassed Fate/Zero S2. Only took the show 5 years to do it!

    • Avatar Ejc says:

Officially it has, but remember that Bandai Visual restocked Vol.1 and Vol.2 in its own store, which means those sales were never reported to Oricon. As a result, it was robbed of around 8K Vol.1 and around 6K of Vol.2 Oricon sales, which translates to around 2.3k in average lost. I’m basing this on how much Vol.3~6 sold, which was around 37~38K each.

  2. Avatar solid snake says:

is Hai to Gensou no Grimgar sales good?

    • Avatar Progeusz says:

They’re rather average but closer to the good side. I think it’s safe to say show pays for itself but the income is probably too low to hope for another season (because sequels almost always sell less). The light novels received a very nice boost but the music sold badly.

    • Avatar PP says:

Maybe? The last episodes of the show ended up being pretty shaky animation-wise and the fact that the anime served mostly to advertise the music (which sold horribly) makes me believe they didn’t actually expect this kind of sales from it. So probably good all things considered.

      • Avatar Nico says:

Promote the music? A ton of BGM plus OP & ED by (K)NoW_NAME and a few insekt songs? Can’t see that being the case…?

      • Avatar Progeusz says:

It didn’t serve “mostly” to promote the music. It definitely isn’t a fact.
Music was just a bigger part than it usually is. It stands out because it was awfully shoved in and rightfully flopped. OP/ED didn’t fail, only insert songs did.

  3. Avatar Layciie says:

Kinda disappoint in Super Lovers! sales but then again they make Haru look so young but… really I just want this to be an opportunity for more BL (and by that way possibly more yuri??) to be animated. I mean I guess it’s not awful??

    • Avatar AnimePhoenix says:

Volume 1 has an event ticket afaik. V2+ don’t look like they’ll drop much according to Stalker but we’ll have to see. I thought it would do better but I guess the Animate effect wasn’t strong enough? I was expecting 4k for volume 1.

Joker Game has been ranking very high on Animate and I sincerely hope it translates to more sales.

      • Avatar Layciie says:

Disappointingggggg but what can I do.

I hope Joker Game sells well too… that, Bungou Stray Dogs, Kabaneri, and like Shounen Maid (but I feel like the last one won’t sell well) :/ As long as these sell okay I’ll be happy but idk

        • Avatar AnimePhoenix says:

Bungou kind of looks like it’ll drop off after volume 1 according to Stalker. Shounen Maid will be lucky if it gets 1k. ;_; I want it to do 10k, it’s so good and heartwarming.

          Kabaneri will probably do decently.

Joker Game has another month before it gets released.

  4. Avatar fourteenwings says:

    Wow KinPri~

  5. Avatar Painn says:

Wanna see how Kabaneri, Re zero, and flying witch do. Hope they sell well

  6. Avatar primadog says:

What series would be hurt most next week from losing the extended ranking?

    • something something says:

Depends on DVD thresholds, but anything low-selling that gets cheated out of 300-400 DVDs could take a big % hit. There’s enough coming out the week after that we might see a bunch of missed wk2s as well.

Maybe the biggest loser will be Super Lovers from this week, tho. It’s possible it won’t get a wk2 on either format.

  7. Avatar BlackPoint says:

Just wow next weeks release gonna be packed expecting few of them to be 10k+ and since no more extented quite some shows gonna suffer and we wont see their sales >_<

  8. Avatar solid snake says:

ooh!!next week will be so busy
i hope re:zero sell so good
and gintama vol 12 hope it sell well

  9. Avatar Jamibu says:

I think you forgot to put the GuP Anzio OVA on the BD rankings even if it’s on your summary.

  10. Avatar willy says:

how do you determine when a series is selling good? 10k or 5kl

    • something something says:

It’s different for every series. Sometimes very different. Disc sales matter more for some than for others, because there are a lot of other ways shows make money than just BDs (manga/novels, games, merch, figures, licensing rights, CDs, etc).

So there is no single “break even” line at which all shows start making money. You could take two shows averaging 5k and call one a flop and one a success, it depends on a lot of other factors.

    • Avatar Ejc says:

Traditionally, 10K average sales is regarded as “hit status” in Japan, but due to the many different revenue streams available nowadays, a single number is not sufficient to determine whether an anime is selling good or not.

Another problem with using a single number, is that not all anime are equal in price for their BD/DVD releases. Obviously, a cheap anime selling 10K would not have made the same as a more expensive anime that also sold 10K.

  11. Avatar Rick Grimes says:

well this is a studio releated question but does anyone think that studio BONES shows are doing really bad? I mean the only hit they had in years was Kekkai Sensen and 2 flops…Noragami S2 and ConRevo. What do you think would mean for the studio?
As the comments I read above state the Bungou wont be performing well, everything lies on HeroAca’s hands right? And from what I think Hero Aca will be more likely be depending on the manga sales boost right? or did it NOT have a late night time slot?

And does their upcoming series Mob Psycho show any hype?

    • something something says:

HeroAca has a slot where ratings matter, and its ratings are bad (and disc sales will be average-ish). But not bad enough to stop it from getting a sequel announced just now, though it may have been planned from the start with such an early announcement.

In general, whether sales matter for Bones depends on whether they’re on the production committee. Even when they are I don’t think they’re usually high up on it. So as long as they continue to get work, they’ll continue to get paid. most studios get a flat fee for their work, and a small or no stake in the show’s actual sales.

  12. Avatar Natapori says:

It seem boost up again for High Speed! Movie after annouce special event and Ticket Event include BD/DVD,How much for total sale.and openweek sale in your opinion?

  13. Avatar solid snake says:

amm boku no hero is just got another season
i’m was Wondering how did he get another season and the disk didn’t release yet?

    • Avatar solid snake says:

i mean there is People says it’s Very successful
      how much did he successful?

      • Avatar AnimePhoenix says:

I fully expected HeroAca to be split cour or get a second season from the start mainly because it’s a JUMP anime.

Some shows are announced to be split cour from the start like Bungou Stray Dogs and Akagami no Shirayukihime but some shows are announced to be split cour in the end like say Super Lovers, Aldnoah Zero and in this case, HeroAca.

Most JUMP anime don’t actually sell well….no, I should say most mainstream shounen anime don’t sell many BD/DVD’s. The main thing is to increase the manga sales. HeroAca got a decent boost for its manga sales. It’ll probably get some more when the second cour/second season airs.

        • Avatar BlackPoint says:

Yeah exactly when it comes down to anime from JUMP magazine its all about the manga boost which hero academia got big time, so i bet once they saw the boost they decided its worth doing another season while the hype is still there and i guess the 2nd season might air 2017 spring since they didnt say its split-cour which would mean it would air then at fall or perhaps since its airing at nichigo timeslot there was no free room for it and they can air it then next spring or heck perhaps even the production has other projects already in work and cant handle hero academia in the same time lots of reasons why the scheduales for next season are as they are^^

    • something something says:

      1. The sequel was probably decided on before the first season even aired.
      2. Disc sales aren’t always the deciding factor.

  14. something something says:

Full ranking posted. Just a few additional discs.

  15. Avatar ma77mad says:

haikyuu first season wasn’t one of late night anime
    but it’s sales great
    how is that?

    • something something says:

It aired in the Nichigo slot (5pm Saturday). That slot has some really major hits in the past (Gundam 00 and Code Geass especially), though it doesn’t do that quite so often any more.
