Dagashi Kashi v2 sells 1391/268, total 1,659.

AoKana v2 sells 1076/166, total 1,242. DVDs from extended.. Very slightly up on v1wk1 since that was a touch understocked.

Dimension W v2 sells 829 as a BD-only release.

Luck & Logic v2 sells 222 as a BD-only release.

Fall update:
Haikyuu!! s2 v4 sells 6329/5202, total 11,531.

One Punch Man v5 sells 4683/1801, total 6,484.

G Tekketsu v5 sells 5618/663, total 6,281.

Starmyu v5 sells 2044/1337, total 3,381.

Yuru Yuri s3 v5 sells 2679/248, total 2,927. DVDs from extended.

Lupin Part IV v5 sells 1524/532, total 2,056.

Diabolik Lovers s2 v2 sells 1,487. DVD-only release.

Dance with Devils v5 sells 675/544, total 1,219.

ConRevo v4 sells 503 as a BD-only release.

Osomatsu-san v1 adds 285 DVDs, total 111,505.
v2 adds 261 DVDs, total 82,031.
v3 adds 474 DVDs, total 62,844.

Owarimono v4 adds 371 BDs, total 25,542.

Gochiusa s2 v4 adds 288 BDs, total 10,306.

Past seasons:
Gundam-san sells 797/305, total 1,102. One-shot release. 38.5/48.7% overestimated. This is a Summer 2014 release, only just now coming out on disc.

God Eater v7, final volume, sells 683 standalone BDs, 3549 game bundles, total 4,232. Series average: 5,443[/x]. Standalone BDs were only 16% of the average, which is much lower than either season of Idolmaster. Not sure why this one was so bundle-heavy, other than very few people wanting the anime for the anime’s sake.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Chihayafuru BD Box sells 1,742. Not bad for a show that averages 2.8k, though this is a pretty cheap boxset for a two cour show. Might get to around ¥40m for a series that did ¥116m in singles sales.

Last Exile Fam movie sells 692 BDs, DVDs do not rank. That’s probably the worst performance of a late night anime film on home video I’ve ever seen, at least those that ranked. I didn’t even know this movie existed until I saw it was in the upcoming releases list for this week.

Garupan OVA adds 256 BDs, total 59,235 in wk61.

  1. BlackPoint says:

Another nice drop on sales for OPM vol4 was selling at 8k and this one is close to 6,5k so i assume that with next week it might get 7k but still again a 1k drop, basicly every vol has drop in sales while compared to it overlord had much more stable fanbase. Other then that as expected code geass top seller this week^^
Haikyuu is have quite a nice drop too 1st volume at 20k and this one is only at 11k now or did the 1st volume had some event tickets already forgot since i dont rly follow the show…
And now when i check it yuru yuri has some nice drops tooo *-*

    • something something says:

Overlord’s stability was highly unusual, OPM’s progression is closer to standard. Yuru Yuri is actually slightly higher than v3wk1 on BD (DVDs likely within a few dozen discs but just missed the threshold), though they’re both a little below v4. Haikyuu!! s2 v5 has a better wk1 than v4 although they’re close enough than wk2+ will decide it. v1 did have an event ticket, yes.

      • BlackPoint says:

i see any idea perhaps or well a guess why overlord had such stable salles? ^^ cuz it pretty stayed at same nr 11k after vol2 or so only vol1 sold more and the rest was same then xD. Aha well about OPM i just wondered more about it since it was so hyped up etc but well its different situation in jpn and just the rest of the world likes OPM more^^ And for haikyuu it explains then the drop from start if it had a event ticket it kinda makes me wonder though why not more animes do this event tickets or does it not always pay off? Since we pretty much always see that event tickets will double sales or even abit more.

        • something something says:

I don’t know why Overlord specifically was so consistent, no.

As for One Punch Man, it’s extremely popular in Japan. But that popularity is expressed more strongly through its manga than its anime. Even the Oricon reports (which tend to heavily undercount manga) were something like 7 million sold for 9 or 10 vols as of 6-7 months ago, so the actual number of shipped copies is likely well over a million per volume at this point (someone here probably knows for sure).

A lot of anime do include event tickets, it’s pretty common actually. But only certain shows actually get big boosts from the ticket. Typically big boosts come when shows feature a lot of really popular seiyuu, because seiyuu are the #1 draw for event tickets. Unless the anime also features some really popular musical group, though even those will be seiyuu-singers most of the time. Big boosts are also more common for shows with heavily female fanbases, as popular male seiyuu draw bigger crowds with women than female seiyuu do for shows aimed at men (usually, that is, there are always exceptions).

          • BlackPoint says:

Hmmm aight thanks for this info and some tips and seems that jpn prefers more the manga/LN stuff then instead of animes since OPM has such boost as you said and as i remember overlord had huge boost too think it was even a top seller or atleast among the best selling LN with 1mil+ copies out if i recall correct the news from ANN.
Um ye when i think about it now most animes that got events tickets have normaly pretty much only male casts, out of my head for male fanbase is probably symphogear or w/e its called since its an anime with only female. Anyway thanks again for info got a bit better view now on this whole tickets shizzle^^

          • Liralei says:

I read that one possibility for Overlord having had consistent sales was because of the bonus item it was sold with, which was a lottery ticket to get the artist so-bin to draw a poster of a character of your choice as it would appear in the Yggdrasil-game.

  2. Mami Kawada Lover says:

    >AoKana v2 sells 1,076 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Very slightly up on v1wk1 since that was a touch understocked.
Ouch. Hope it sells more next week.

    >Dimension W v2 sells 829 as a BD-only release.
An even bigger ouch. Well, given how it pretty much pandered to Western audiences (remember that Funimation was on the production committee), and given how spotty sales have been in Japan for Western-pandering shows, and finally how poor reception for the anime was, this isn’t exactly surprising.

    >Gundam-san sells 797/305, total 1,102. One-shot release. 38.5/48.7% overestimated. This is a Summer 2014 release, only just now coming out on disc.
Is there any possible reason why it took this long to be released on disc? Also, this reminds me that the newest Nanoha anime hasn’t been released on BD/DVD yet (at least not as far as I know, since it isn’t in your Quick View page).

    • BlackPoint says:

dimenson w is kinda that type of genre anime that doesnt attract much ppl i would say also i would say it had great potential at start but then later on that kinda got meh and became just another barely average anime of the winter season and yeh funimation probably paid his share + they get the money back from streamin and later with the dubs for sure would be probably be interesting to see how the dub release would sell though^^

    • something something says:

About Gundam-san, dunno. Maybe there was some television station exclusivity deal, or maybe they never intended to put it on disc in the first place but then changed their minds, or whatever.

And nope, no solicit for Nanoha Vivid yet. The Nanoha franchise is in such a weird, mostly-dead state right now, like it’s just been straight-up abandoned.

  3. Hahalollawl says:

Hmm, so Tekketsu’s first 2 cours should end up somewhere close to where G Reco was in average sales right?

Also, you keep track of the box office amount made by the Code Geass movies/OVA and include the sales in the weekly list, but don’t keep track of the cumulative disc sales over time is that correct? Or if you do, could you point me to where? Thanks.

    • something something says:

G Tekketsu should end up somewhat close to G Reco, yeah.

At the time Akito started I didn’t really cover TV-related OVAs with any consistency. I probably should track it as an OVA related to Code Geass tho, I just never got around to adding it. I might at some point, but even then the only place you’d see it here is the quick view page.

  4. Jon says:

Wait, this is the “full list”?

    • something something says:

Forgot to change “Full” to “Preliminary” when I duped last week’s post as the basis for this one. This is still the prelims. Fixed!

  5. Anonymous says:

Another year of very bad sales for typical ecchi harem and very good for mainstream or refreshing anime starts.

  6. 37 says:

Wait. is s2 of daibolik lovers selling better than s1?

  7. something something says:

We have a new BD extended ranking minimum threshold!

This week, Comet Lucifer v4 was ranked #280. This drama sold 66 BDs per the weekly Drama BD rankings, and ranked #289 for the week.

Not only does this give us a very close number for Comet Luficer v4, it gives us a lower bound for every single disc on the extended ranking except one of the Sailor Moon Crystal REs. Comet Lucifer v4 comes into the extended rankings at #5009 of #5010.

The race to the bottom is pretty damn close to its absolute end.

Also this gives us data for additional 162 discs… I’ll be busy today. Though a lot of them are things I don’t track.

Edit: Oh wow, things lined up very opportunely this week. We also have new milestones at 72 and 128 as well. And If I can be allowed to sliiiightly fudge, 163 as well. An idol disc sold 163 and ranked #131. A Tales of Vesperia BD re-release this week ranked #136. I think getting another 35 discs of granularity for 29 different releases justifies potentially giving this disc I wouldn’t even track a literal handful of discs more than it might have actually sold.

    • Ejc says:

I was just discussing if any anime would sell even worse than Shin Strange Plus that sold at least 70 BDs (since it was 22 ranks above an Idol Image BD that sold 69) with hpulley, and it actually came true this week! I shouldn’t laugh at such low sales, but wow…

      • something something says:

Well I guess due to it only being one disc, SSP still has the dubious distinction of worst average. Pretty impressive[??].

So yeah if I take that 70 threshold as well, we now have 66, 70, 72, 128, and 163 milestones. Nooooooot bad. Er actually very bad, but good for us.

  8. something something says:

That said, Million Doll is BD only and estimated at 72, while the other two have unranked DVDs, so Million Doll is probably worse. At least among shows that have touched the Top 300 at least once in any format.

Whoa that’s a lot of stuff. Does RE stand for Regular Edition (as in not special?). And if so, would those be added to the special edition totals?
