Summer update:
Hetalia s4 v1 sells 4,586 as a DVD-only release. This one is weird in that it’s explicitly listed as an Animate version (アニメ「ヘタリア The World Twinkle」 vol.1(アニメイト限定盤)). But it’s being sold at Amazon too, and Stalker had a 1.8k estimate. Yet, there’s no second version on Oricon making a 473 threshold? And Oricon only has one version in its database o the public website. I suppose the “Animate LE” really is the only version and whatever meager Amazon sales happened are included in that.

Suzakinishi sells 1095/859/411 LE (Ayappe ver), LE (Asuka ver), RE BDs, total 2,365, DVDs do not rank.

God Eater v1 sells 1,010 as a BD-only release. This volume’s game/anime bundle was with the full God Eater Resurrection game, and thus isn’t counted in the anime’s sale. The average will be calculated exactly as Idolmaster was: (v1 standalone) + (average v2-7 anime+bundle).

Classroom Crisis v1 sells 753/203, total 956. DVDs from extended.

Aquarion v1 sells 727 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Symphogear s3 v2 sells 14464/1603, total 16,067. Also an event ticket volume, will end up around 17.5k to v1’s 20.6-21k. Two nice boosts to whatever its final average ends up being after the v3+ drop.

Overlord v2 sells 9622/1391, total 11,013. Only 1.6k below v1’s wk5 total. Unless a big v3+ drop is coming, 10k average isn’t out of the question.
v1 adds 472 BDs, total 13,091. Wow, this one just keeps going.

Charlotte v2 sells 5560/918, total 6,478.

TLR Darkness s2 v2 sells 4701/961, total 5,662.

Gate v2 sells 4696/875, total 5,571. Actually up slightly on v1wk1.

Non Non s2 v2 sells 4545/467, total 5,012. The event ticket drop will be under 20% like with s1. …Exceeeeeeeept, I just noticed that this show has a v2 event ticket as well, so uh. Damn. I hope v3+ aren’t really ugly. s1 only had a v1 ticket. I just really want it to average 5k at least. =(

Prison School v2 sells 3156/757, total 3,913. Down from 5.9k v1wk1. Most of the drop is DVDs, not unexpected for an event ticket drop. This actually isn’t down as much as I expected but we’ll still be looking at a >30% drop from v1. It would need to keep very consistent to average 5k, it’ll likely end up a bit below barring a big boost in a later volume for some extras.

Prisma Illya s3 v2 sells 3449/370, total 3,819.

UshioTora v2 sells 2039/628, total 2,667. Up slightly on v1wk1.

Durarara s3 v3 sells 1363/807, total 2,170.

Joukamachi v2 sells 1700/441, total 2,141.

Gangsta v2 sells 1221/912, total 2,133.

Junjou s3 v2 sells 964/1071, total 2,035.

Shirayukihime v2 sells 1066/677, total 1,743.

SoreSeiyuu v2 sells 700 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Wow that’s a hell of a drop. Down 70.6% on v1wk1. RIP.

Ranpo Kitan v2 sells 490/317, total 807. DVDs from extended.

Kuusen Madoushi v2 sells 453 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Gakkou Gurashi v2 adds 545/154, total 2,863. Even ticket drop is 17% on v1wk2.

Spring update:
DxD s3 v3 sells 4482/1297, total 5,779. Only 7 discs off (higher) than v3wk1. BDs were identical.

Gintama° v4 sells 2669/2574, total 5,243.

Show By Rock v5 sells 4351/582, total 4,933. 7,002 average with one volume left, so it’ll likely end up just below that.

Danmachi v5 sells 3798/685, total 4,483. Still potentially holding onto a 5k average.

Kinmosa s2 v5 sells 3877/404, total 4,281. 5.3k with one volume to go, really hoping it holds onto that 5k. That wouldn’t be too bad a drop from s1’s 6.8k.

Nisekoi s2 v5 sells 2576/755, total 3,331.

Yuki-chan v5 sells 1,953 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Shokugeki no Souma v4 sells 1437/443, total 1,880.

Pleiades v5 sells 1,640 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Plasmemo v5 sells 1339/225, total 1,564. DVDs from extended.

Triage X v5, final volume, sells 1,205 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 1,601.

Fate UBW s2 adds 350, total 35,161.

Kekkaisen v5 adds 465/146, total 13,862. DVDs from extended.

Oregairu s2 v4 adds 1169/269, total 9,774.

Euphonium v5 adds 558 BDs, total 7,020.

Grisaia s2 v3 adds 486/129, total 3,730.

Arslan v4 adds 395/281, total 3,273.

Past seasons:
Kurobas s3 v7 sells 5160/5432, total 10,592.

Kimiuso v4 adds 272 BDs, total 9,027. From extended.
v5 adds 305 BDs, total 8,991. From extended.
v6 adds 462/110, total 8,577. DVDs from extended.
v7 adds 569/131, total 8,583. DVDs from extended.
v8 adds 761 BDs, total 8,410.
v9, final volume, sells 6976/1258, total 8,234. Series average: 9,962. The Aniplex+ bump is strong, even some DVDs made it, so 10k is guaranteed next week.

AnsaKyou v8, final volume, sells 880/942, total 1,822. Series average: 2,588.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Koukaku Kidoutai new movie sells 9709/1765, total 11,474.

WUG Movie Seishun no Kage sells 1,416 as a BD-only release. Not sure if this one was sold at theaters too but it’s waaaay down from the first movie’s 12k.

47 Responses to “2015 10/26 – 11/01 Weekly Sales List”

  1. something something says:

I forgot that with the time shift, this is now coming out at 3AM my time instead of 4AM, so I got started an hour late. Well, doesn’t much matter. Will try for a 3AM start going forward tho.

  2. Ejc says:

    > This one is weird in that it’s explicitly listed as an Animate version (アニメ「ヘタリア The World Twinkle」 vol.1(アニメイト限定盤)). But it’s being sold at Amazon too, and Stalker had a 1.8k estimate. I suppose the “Animate LE” really is the only version and whatever meager Amazon sales happened are included in that.

I am not sure what Oricon’s criteria is for reporting the Animate sales, because there is one other weird case where none of the UtaPri live concert discs were reported by Oricon, but were reported by Soundscan.

    • something something says:

Were the Utapri discs Animate *exclusives*? If so, maybe Oricon never got it into their database at all because none of the big mainstream retailers offered it.

Whereas Hetalia was available at Amazon, so they were aware of it… I mean it’d be a dumb reason to not report something but it’s all I can come up with.

  3. Anon says:

Should we expect a report from Media Create for God Eater’s sales?

    • something something says:

Tomorrow, but it’ll be bundled with the full game and thus the data won’t be usable for anime sales purposes. The bundles will be counted for v2+ like we did for original Idolmaster, assuming they make the Media Create top 20 threshold which varies a lot but is usually around 2-3k.

  4. primadog says:

Wow, no mercy in that DNR list.

    • primadog says:

Even if you combine the first volume sales of Classroom Crisis, God Eater, and Aquarion, it won’t reach the Manabe Line. Brutal. Somebody out there lost a lot of money this season.

  5. AholePony says:

It seems like the total volume this week was pretty high, needing to go all the way down to “anime rank”16 to drop below a 3,000+ seller. It might be fun to dig into the past data and see if this was a particularly big week. For a completely unscientific comparison I added up the BD sales for the top 10 from this week and the same week in 2014 and it was 83,954 to 68,282 and 2014 had a Love Live release.

    • something something says:

Any time I have to go past the Prelim Anime BD 20 list and into the Prelim All-Genre BD Top 30 to do the preliminary list, I consider that a *really* big week. Especially if the Anime Top 20 threshold is >2k as it was here.

Though even the big weeks on BD tend not to have much bigger Top 100 thresholds Once you get down there it’s generally between 150 and 400. And extended rankings for the Top 300 take it to below 100 in almost all cases. Only so many new releases can come out in a week, even a week like this.

  6. therealtalk says:

Feeling bad for Shokugeki no Souma – its doing strangely bad for a Jump manga and refusing to chart tho Jump mangas don’t need the money so much.

Was expecting Prison School to be 4500, this is a bit of a disappointment but could be worse. OST drops in the next one so it should pick up to 5500 hopefully. I think some people who watched it wanted to purchase one and then hold off for money reasons or because they had picked up the anime on Niconico, which makes sense.

Charlotte has a very strong showing for a quite sucessful original anime overall. With no manga to boost it, sales are quite important for it and there’s no manga cushion to absorb the shock – so its good that it got results.

    • soe3 says:

Not really strange, World Trigger, Toriko, Assclass, Bakuman and many other Jump manga also have bad BD/DVD sales

      • Tsunayoshi Sawada says:

Not everything can be a Haikyuu!! or Kurobas.

I dont know if peole were really expecting that for something like Assassination Classroom or Food Wars.

Similarly I don’t believe that HeroAca_a will be a high disc sellar. (unless somehow OPM a superhero manga is pulling big numbers?)

        • Julie says:

OPM has different appeal than HeroAca, it is Seinen manga and can appeal to older audience

        • AnimePhoenix says:

‘Similarly I don’t believe that HeroAca_a will be a high disc sellar.’

          Same.

        • ChocoBar says:

Haikyuu and Kurobas has the fujoshi appeal supporting them much like To Love Ru and Nisekoi had otakus. Not really making any judgements on HeroAca_a yet since it just got announced and things can go either way depending on how its marketed I mean nobody expected Kekkai Sensen to sell as well as it did and people didn’t expect Owari no Seraph to bomb either and they were both both Jump adaptations so anything can happen. Last time I checked OPM was doing….okay, it certainly had a slow start but it has been gaining some momentum in recently

          • something something says:

The recent bump for OPM was details of the OVA on the disc coming out. That gave it a decent boost but it’s dropping back down now.

          • Julie says:

I think that anon mean weekly Shounen jump, OnS and Kekkai are in monthly JumpSQ

If we just names picking, even show like Nanatai and Ghoul bombed despite the manga are very popular even before the show aired

            • ChocoBar says:

Was Ghoul’s manga popular before the anime?

            • Nanatai averaged 5k. Not a megahit, but pretty far away from bomb territory.

              • Julie says:

Not really pretty far the last 4 volumes only did around 3k, it will likely sells around that much or even lower for upcoming new season except they incluse event tickets again, the average of S1 was helped by 4 volumes event ticket

                • Falling-off over a longer 2-cour release is expected and normal with or without event tickets, though that certainly makes the drop-off sharper. Even given that, 3k (which Tokyo Ghoul) is in the upper half of as far as disk sales of print adaptations go, not really bomb territory for the most part. We frequently see adaptations which average in the 3k-6k range get sequels so long as they produce a respectable manga boost, which is as good an indicator as we can get of profitability without hardcore financial data: http://wp.me/p3dDlR-19Q

                  • Julie says:

It will fall faster and won’t average that much, oh i made mistake, it is not the last 4 volumes that did 3k but the last 5 volumes, which was exactly after event ticket volumes.

Since ChocoBar said OnS that average 3k bombed compare to Kekkai Sensen I just give another example of same cases, and we don’t talk about boost they get because of the adaptation.

                    • yihase says:

Nanatai wasn’t a midnight anime though, it aired in the same mainstream 5 PM timeslot as Haikyuu season 1 before it and Arslan Senki after it. And while Haikyuu easily outsold it, Nanatai’s viewership ratings were consistently better. It regularly cracked the weekly top 10, and it won’t surprise me if the sequel airs in the same timeslot. Meanwhile, Haikyuu was moved to a midnight slot for its second season. Not all success is in the sales.

      • ChocoBar says:

Couple of things though; WT, Toriko are daytime shows that aren’t focused on selling BD/DVDs, Bakuman was rental only and aired on NTV. Assclass really shouldn’t have been a late night anime seem like it missed its target audience airing that late. As for Souma cooking anime has never done well so its sales aren’t really surprising despite its efforts to wheel in otaku.

  7. something something says:

Full ranking posted, extended this weekend.

  8. Hahalollawl says:

What is that Gundam Box, is that a Box release of the 08th MS team OVA? If so, that’s from almost 20 years ago! Why now?

    • something something says:

Bandai has been re-releasing all sorts of Gundam TV/OVA series on BD every few months for years now, so I just see it as the next in a long line.

  9. Julie says:

What do you think of Suzakinishi sale? not only ticket event, for special ed they give out handdrawn Tshirt/towel, lottery signed scripts/signed color papers and live action video which is easy to create because the anime based on the two seiyuu, and the RE edition not really a RE because you can still get event ticket.

  10. Jim says:

    31 1,640 1,640 1 Houkago no Pleiades v5
    45 1,066 1,066 1 Akagami no Shirayuki-hime v2

    *sigh*

Also, there’s a typo in column 2 for Triage X – says it only sold 1 copy

  11. Hahalollawl says:

Fate 2 hit 35k, good for them though not too surprising. Almost 10k for Kimiuso is excellent, even if we don’t see it hit 10k. Besides, there are probably some that are missing so it’s probably hit or will hit 10k average anyways even if we don’t see it. And even if it didn’t, it’s still probably safe to say that it is a pretty significant hit for Aniplex/A1.

The God Eater game seemed to sell quite well in Japan, but hard to tell if that has any relation to the anime. Maybe the anime served as an advertisement for the game? And 1k for an anime that hasn’t even finished…could be worst I guess?

It can always be worse so long as you’ve sold even one copy. But this is still very bad. Another month until we see how much the Off Shot bundles help.

And yes, working under the assumption that all anime sells like 20% (or way more) above than Oricon’s reports, Kimiuso is way beyond 10k real-world shipments already, guaranteed. I’d bet any show reported at 8k+ is comfortably over 10k real world.

RIP Aquarion. “Logos” was so forgotten that it generated no hype at all.

I don’t follow nearly as much anime as I used to, but even considering that… I do not think I know a single person who watched it or ever even spoke about it (except to occasionally talk about how nobody talks about it). And I never saw coverage of it on any JP sites either.

      It just… didn’t exist.

Well I did, if only because I created its Wikipedia article. Though in my more than eight years of editing, this is perhaps the only case where the show was so unpopular its Wikipedia article was not even getting regular updates during the season. If anything, I feel most sorry for May’n given how her single flopped as well.
