Thought Youkai Watch could hit 100k opening week, I guess 99k is close enough.

Spring update:
Utapri s3 v1 adds 4585/3355, total 57,217. I wonder if it will add much after this. s2v1 had a ridiculous dropoff after wk2, adding only 1.8k in wk3 and then not ranking again. Partly that was getting less data reported back then but even the extended rankings gave us nothing more.. If this volume has a considerable tail, it could close the gap a little. Of course it has a v2 event ticket which s2 did not so that’ll do wya more to close any gaps.

Kekkaisen v1 adds 415 BDs, total 20,543.

Oregairu s2 v1 adds 361 BDs, total 13,250.

Euphonium v1 adds 629 BDs, total 9,405 in wk4. Slowing down a little but 10k still looks well within reach (and probably well in the past with untracked KyoAni shop sales) in a couple more weeks, even if it takes the extended rankings. Possible okay week next week for people buying (or getting held orders shipped) alongside v2. I’m one of them, didn’t order v1 until the show was over and thus need to wait for it to ship with v2, even if Oricon won’t count me as a foreigner. Not sure that’ll do more than say 500 in wk4 but that’d put it well within extended ranking striking reach in wk6.

Winter update:
AbsoDuo v4 sells 875/299, total 1,174.

ShoHolly s2 v4 sells 633 BDs, DVDs presumably in extended.

Deremas v2 adds 262 BDs, total 26,965.

Kancolle v4 adds 283 BDs, total 15,608.

Kurobas s3 v3 adds 251/303, total 14,693.

Jojo s3 v3 adds 216 BDs, total 9,181.

Saekano v5 adds 542 BDs, total 7,456.

Past seasons:
Sailor Moon Crystal v9 sells 316 DVDs, total 2,531 with last months’ BDs.
v10 sells 1,994 BDs, DVDs out next month.

World Trigger v5 sells 1155/468, total 1,623.

SAO II v9, final volume, adds 302 BDs, total 18,060. Series average: 20,137.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Nise/Neko Kuro BD Box sells 3,674. Far cry from bake’s 22k opener and 33k finale, but that was obvious from the preorder rankings. Way less residual demand for this season. I do hope we still see a Second Season BD Box when Final comes out, as I need to get that. I’m sure they’ll still do one though.

Angel Beats BD Box adds 320, total 7,133.

Gatchaman Crowds BD Box (yes I know it’s a single disc, all bundled re-releases are “boxes” to me) adds 548, total 2,886. Over the last four weeks it’s sold 79, 109, 293, and now 548 additional units added. Combined with the initial release’s 7,268, its total sales are now 10,154. All at much, much lower MSRPs than usual, so this might be more like what a normal show would have made with 5-6k combined sales, but hey, still a lot of units moved. We’ll need to see what kind of dropoff Insight incurs for going back to singles – though it’s still quite cheap by those standards too.

Friendly reminder: what types of media I track is not open for debate. Just removed a comment that tried to reopen a discussion that ended long ago (and a dozen times over). Trust me, there’s nothing you can ask that hasn’t already been discussed and considered.

  2. Anon says:

I was expecting Youkai Watch’s movie to be even more underestimated, easily surpassing the 120K in the first week but still, amazing numbers, no doubt it’ll have a long and sweet tail.

Meanwhile, Arpeggio’s recap movie adds 1,983 LE BDs, total 14,508. It’ll be outselling the v1 (and best selling volume) of the TV series by next week.

    • something something says:

The first two Youkai Watch TV series volumes were both overestimated a bit, so the movie was comparatively underestimated by a decent amount.

  3. 37 says:

I’m glad hibike is going up, also utapri dominating as usual.

  4. AnimePhoenix says:

Oh.UtaPri Revolutions selling like hot cakes. Yeah, no, I’m not happy. It deserves to tank after how A-1 butchered it. Horrible cgi, horrible animation, horrible storytelling, just ugh.

    • something something says:

Well, I mean, most of what’s selling here is the chance to go to a Starish concert, heh.

Though I do expect the non-ticket volumes to do well, of course.

      • AnimePhoenix says:

Yeah, I know volume 1 and 2 will sell like hotcakes because of the event ticket. But really, the third season was so disappointing.

  5. Anonymous says:

Arpeggio of Blue Steel -Ars Nova- D.C. recap movie adds 1983 BD, for a 2nd week total of 14,508 BD+DVD (13748+760).

  6. Marcelo M says:

    Hi something,

In the list of upcoming releases, I think the following were missing:

2015/07/15 Precure All Stars: Haru no Carnival♪
2015/07/15 Sanzoku no Musume Ronja Vol.8
2015/07/15 Sanzoku no Musume Ronja Vol.9

    You could check?

    Thank you for your work.

    Updated with the full list.

  8. moodie says:

is the bd box set for nise/neko an indication that ppl are getting tired of the gatari series? or is it just some other factor…i mean im guessing that the next few adaptions will probably sell around 25k by the way its been diminishing

    • something something says:

The anime adaptation’s popularity has undoubtedly been on a consistent slide since Bake ended, but that was probably inevitable given the impossibly high position it started from.

Bake, despite its gargantuan sales, was still long out of stock by the time the BD set came out. It also sold a significant number of DVDs (23,844 avg) compared to Nise (8,590 average) meaning the pool of people wanting to upgrade formats was much, much larger.

And frankly I feel like a lot of people would just say Nise wasn’t as good as the rest of the franchise, though that’s getting more subjective. I did like Nise but Bake and Second are both much better. I have a feeling a Second Season box will do better despite its 1/3rd lower (than Nise) sales and even higher BD:DVD ratio. Though maybe only in the 6-7k range.

  9. AnimePhoenix says:

Why does literally everything has to have an Amazon Edition nowadays? SO.DARN.ANNOYING.

    • something something says:

And all-volume purchase boxes with a redeem-at-the-end serial code, they’ve totally gone the path of other retailers now.

So we’ve got the whole format split making things confusing and the boxes encouraging Amazon bias (though not quite as strong as when they’d give the box away with a single purchase), and the whole thing is a huge annoying mess to try to look at sales-wise. It’s hard to even eyeball what’s doing well because that show 150 ranks ahead of another show might actually be doing worse because the other show has two equally ranked editions which combined would beat the first and ahhhhhhhh!

This was always the case with shows that had a close DVD/BD split but those were rare, and generally quite predictable. Now there’s so many more to worry about.

      • Anon says:

Which reminds me, what’s the deal with the Amazon versions for Working? One of them has been out of stock? for weeks or something. Coincidentally, it was the one everybody was preordering and with it coming out in a month it’s hard to predict how much it’ll sell.

        • something something says:

Amazon editions sometimes have much earlier preorder cutoffs than the normal release versions. Since Working!!! is such an early release (something of a tradition for the franchise), it being cut off now is maybe a *little* earlier than usual, but not shockingly so. At least one last season was cut off multiple weeks out too, though I’m blanking on which it was.
