GO GO KuroBasu! Make more money so that they’ll hopefully animate the Replace Novels as well! <3

  2. Ejc says:

Half-yearly 2015 rankings are out, but the fascinating piece of new data from Oricon Youtaiju is the Anime Series rankings. Love Live! 2nd Season sold a combined 98,151 within Dec 8 2014~Jun 7 2015. Vol.7 is confirmed at 70,194 as of the half-year, which means Vol.1~6 sold 27,957 combined.

These are the rough gains in the half-year based on the extended list from last week, and the totals from the 2014 yearly list.
    Vol.2: 58,944-56,286 = 2,658
    Vol.3: 53,264-50,131 = 3,133
    Vol.4: 54,689-50,286 = 4,403
    Vol.5: 50,493-45,778 = 4,715
    Vol.6: 50,867-44,150 = 6,717

That leaves a difference of 6,331, but based on the upper bounds of Vol.2~6… this difference is potentially around 4~5K only. This means that we can deduce that Vol.1 LE has done around 4~5K since the 2014 yearly, when it was at 115,870 after 25 weeks of charting. We know it sold 117K rounded (116,500~117,499) after 30 weeks charted according to an Oricon news piece on January 16, so it is amazing how all these sales were flying under the radar. Between the January 16 news piece and the 2014 yearly list, the BD thresholds were 343, 485, 791, 308, 271… so perhaps it is entirely possible it barely missed the BD100 thresholds for those 5 weeks. However it has charted 37 weeks in total as of the 2015 half-yearly list, so 7 further weeks of data is missing.

Series Rankings… of course some anime have a bigger advantage because they had more new volumes released in the first half of 2015 (e.g. SAO II had 6 new volumes).

      • Ejc says:

I just realised something… we can figure out some of the current averages as of last week’s list based on the total sales from last year + the anime series sales for the 1st half-year.

What we know is that Love Live! 2nd Season was at these numbers in the 2014 yearly list:..

        **7 115,870 14/06/20 Love Live! 2nd Season Vol.1 Limited Edition (RE at 396)
        *18 *56,286 14/07/25 Love Live! 2nd Season Vol.2
        *21 *50,286 14/09/24 Love Live! 2nd Season Vol.4
        *22 *50,131 14/08/27 Love Live! 2nd Season Vol.3
        *29 *45,778 14/10/29 Love Live! 2nd Season Vol.5
        *31 *43,501 14/11/21 Love Live! 2nd Season Vol.6

That totals 362,248 for 2014 (as of December 7). Now we know that Love Live! 2nd Season sold 98,151 from December 8~June 7… which totals 460,399, which results in an average of 65,771.3 as of June 7.

        • Nevermind, just saw the dates on the first post.

        • Jim says:

I’m seeing some significant bumps in the averages for some of these shows over what we had before. 58,961 for Yuki Yuna comes to an average of 9827 per volume (and all six volumes came out within the six month period being tracked, so that’s complete for the whole series), which is significantly higher than we thought. I think the most recent average Something had for it was around 9300 or so? Same thing with Amagi – last sales average he posted for that was about 6300, but this total would put it closer to 6800.

          • something something says:

These bumps are bizarre because they seem to contradict Oricon’s own extended rankings. I mean, maybe not – there could be juuuust enough gap between these discs and the next highest disc to but…

…but I doubt it? There are some pretty tight ranges even at in the 5k+ level and I have no idea where Yuyuyu could be hiding 500 units per volume and don’t really have time to look into it right now.

They must have different ways of capturing the data that don’t get reflected in their extended rankings.

            • Ejc says:

I also don’t have much time to look into them right now, but this list is under the Anime section on Oricon Youtaiju. Perhaps the sales that are “discarded” for being outside the Top 300 BD and Top 300 DVD for a particular week are still being used in some way, such as for this sort of ranking… but are of course not reflected in the extended lists.

It is fascinating to me nevertheless, but it would be nice to get to the bottom of how this ranking is compiled.

            • Ejc says:

I have tried to compare the figures for Youkai Watch. 35,334 total for 2015… but it is 34,811 when you add the volume figures from the half-yearly list. A difference of 523.

Now, Vol.2 has charted every single week so far, while Vol.1 charted 27 weeks in the Top 300 DVDs out of the 32 weeks since its release. The last time we saw it was at 24 weeks… so 3 further weeks did not make the Top 30 Anime DVDs but were within the Top 300 DVDs.

In the last week of the 2014 period, Youkai Watch 1 was at 38,292. It added 17,102 sales in 2015, meaning it should be at 55,394. At week 24 it was at 54,921… meaning the 3 further weeks charted added 473 sales.

We are now left with 50 sales, which means my earlier suspicion of all sales outside Top 300 DVDs being used is probably not entirely correct. It a certain rank range outside Top 300 DVD, but sales at this rank is very low as it is already. Seems entirely possible to me though.

      • When exactly do those totals start counting from? Is it January 1st, 2015? Or the start of a particular week?
