Nearly across the board higher wk1s than would normally be expected, so you can anticipate rather small wk2s next week for most of these releases. I guess so much coming out at once convinced people to get their month’s shopping out of the way all at once. Or it could be as simple as that with everything coming out together, stores didn’t end up holding shipments because everything came in stock.

Spring update:
Gunslinger Stratos v1 sells 822/1320, total 2,142. Discounted v1 with some game code stuff. The fact that DVDs outsold BDs implies a lot of purchases were just for the bonus.

Winter update:
Kurobas s3 v2 sells 7189/8650, total 15,839. Slightly better wk1 than v1, but with Kurobas it’s always wk2 that tells the story.

Kancolle v3 sells 12589/2261, total 14,850. Also very slightly better wk1 than the previous vol. Unclear whether this or Kurobas will end up #2 of Winter.

Jojo s3 v2 sells 7169/1408, total 8,577. Less drop than you’d expect for a post-ticket volume, but this week seems to have slightly higher wk1s for most discs across the board, meaning wk2 might be small.

Aldnoah s2 v3 sells 4751/612, total 5,363.

Dog Days” v3 sells 3635/1001, total 4,636. Again slightly higher than previous wk1.

Shinmai Maou v3 sells 3382/906, total 4,288.

Drrr s2 v4 sells 1923/1135, total 3,058.

AnsaKyou v3 sells 899/996, total 1,895.

Koufuku Graffiti v2 sells 1317/248, total 1,565, DVDs from extended.

Tokyo Ghoul s2 v3 sells 976/454, total 1,430.

World Break v3 sells 674/210, total 884, DVDs from extended.

Yurikuma v3 sells 777 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Fafnir v3 sells 608/162, total 770, DVDs from extended.

Isuca v3 sells 586/162, total 748, DVDs from extended.

Junketsu no Maria v3 sells 525 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Saekano v3 adds 280 BDs, total 8,217.

Past seasons:
Akatsuki no Yona v1 sells 1820/1754, total 3,574. I’m not sure what’s more amazing, that a Fall series could take until the end of May to release, or that it’s doing so not as a boxset but as eight singles.

SAO II v8 sells 13099/2640, total 15,739. 19.2k average with one volume to go.

Shirobako v6 sells 12742/494, total 13,236.

Kimiuso v4 sells 6285/1180, total 7,465. Maybe this is where wk1s level off. If so it would average about 9.5k or slightly less, roughly.

G Reco v6 sells 6293/717, total 7,010. Another slight increase on previous wk1.

Amaburi v6 sells 4517/466, total 4,983. Yet another bigger wk1.

Crossange v6 sells 4346/430, total 4,776.

Grisaia v6, final volume, sells 3134/505, total 3,639. Series average: 3,973 and it’ll cross 4k to around 4050.

Nanatai v5 sells 1640/1332, total 2,972. DVDs took another modest tumble on last vol again.

Madan no Ou v6, final volume, sells 2205/561, total 2,766. Series average: 3,105 and should end around 3150.

Gugukoku v6, final volume, sells 1219/1228, total 2,447. Series average: 3,191 and should end around 3330.

Shingeki no Bahamut v4, final volume, sells 2,425 as a BD-only release. Up 40% on v3 due to some game code pack-in or whatever. Series average: 2,425 (not a typo, same as the vol).

Log Horizon s2 v5 sells 1848/464, total 2,312.

SoraMeso v5 sells 1,166, BD-only release.

Inou-battle v6, final volume, sells 901, BD-only release. Series average: 1,166.

Terraformars v6 sells 612/213, total 825, DVDs from extended.

Ushinawareta v6, final volume, sells 419 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Series average: 395.

Yuyuyu v6, final volume, adds 731 BDs, total 8,975. Series average: 9,249.

Yowapedal s2 v5 adds 523/508 DVDs, total 6,203.

Trinity Seven v6, final volume, adds 587/186, total 3,039. Series average: 3,417.

OreTwi v6, final volume, adds 314 BDs, total 2,170. Series average: 2,461.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Gargantia OVA v2, final volume, sells 6,207 as a BD-only release. Big jump from 5.2k to 6.2k, despite the very long time between releases. Should end up at least matching v1 if not exceeding, for a mid-upper 6k avg.

Geass BD Box 5.1ch audio version sells 3,601. Combined total moves it up to #12 on the BD Box rankings, with a chance to pass Bebop for #11.

GatchaCrowds BD Box sells 1,715[/].

[b]Oregairu BD Box adds 233, total 7,667.

  1. Anon says:

    Sidonia 2 v2 sells 4473 BDs, 7 discs more than v1wk1. Interesting.

  2. moodie48 says:

sadly koufuku didn’t rank again i will have to wait for the extended, i hope the drop wasn’t that big

  3. Hahalollawl says:

Shigatsu seems like it’ll have a solid average, at least, seems safe at this point to call it a significant success for Aniplex/A-1 (Sony).

Yona…so when’s the last volume out, December? =P

And I guess Shirobako is a tremendous success for P.A. Works. Was getting concerned about their sales, but hopefully this at least keeps them going.

    Hell of a busy week.

  5. some1 says:

You forgot to add Cross Ange’s DVD sales

  6. 37 says:

Those Koufuku Graffiiti sales…I think this is the worst selling show by Shaft since Dance in the Vampire Bund in 2010.

    • something something says:

      Maria-holic Alive in 2011 averaged 1,136 and Sasami-san@Ganbaranai was 1,863 in 2013 so it’ll be close there.

  7. something something says:

  8. Ejc says:

I just wonder if we’ll see an anime averaging above 50K in 2015, or even averaging between 40~50K? Nothing in the Winter and Spring season seems to fit the bill, so I guess it has to be something we don’t expect in the Summer or Fall season…

During the last decade (2005~2014), there are only 5 occurrences (with 2011 having 2 above 50K):
    ● Bakemonogatari in 2009
    ● Madoka and Fate/Zero in 2011
    ● Nisemonogatari in 2012
    ● Shingeki no Kyojin in 2013 (not all volumes were > 50K though)
    ● Love Live! 2nd Season in 2014

    Some 40~50K average:
    ● Code Geass and Haruhi in 2006
    ● Macross F and Code Geass R2 in 2008
    ● K-ON! in 2009
    ● Fate/Zero 2nd Season in 2012
    ● Monogatari Series 2nd Season in 2013

    • Hahalollawl says:

50k, and even 40k are quite high amounts. I’m not sure anything other than FSN UBW 2 will get over 30k. But if I were to take a guess backed up by little or no information beyond my own feeling, something like God Eater if it has a strong game fanbase and/or if there are a lot of fans of ufotable who would buy it, and maybe something original that grabs fans attention. There seems to be buying power in idol/music fanbases, so maybe Venus Project? Not sure about much else.

      • Gatmar says:

I don’t know about this year..it is kind of hard to tell right now…but next year AOT s2 will defiantly be in the 40k range or even above 50k as for this year….it could be god eater or a surprise sleeper hit..but we will see.

        • something something says:

I’ve come to expect an incredibly harsh drop for Shingeki, and if so even 40k is questionable. Might be low 30s even! I don’t have any particular reason for thinking that, just gut feeling I guess. It was such a big mainstream phenomenon, and I think a lot of those people will have moved on (though they’ll still buy the manga).

          • Anon says:

I think it may be the fact the recap movie did so bad. I mean, sure, it was just a recap but how much it sold? Only 10K? Yeah.

            • something something says:

That’s part of it. I try not to put too much stock in that, especially the disc sales, but you’d think the theatrical showing would have done more at least.

Shingeki may be the last show in the world that needed any more recap, but still.

I think maybe the best thing a second season can do for itself is deliver another insanely catchy OP. Seems like a good way to drum up interest!

          • Hahalollawl says:

Well weren’t we all speculating based on feeling? lol.

Actually, I’m not sure we will see another series in 2015 even average 20k (besides FSN). Am I missing something?

            • Anon says:

Maybe Haikyuu 2 if it’s only one cour?

            • something something says:

Besides UBW, Utapri should hit 20k easily.

As for Summer and Fall, the only upcoming sequel to a 20k series is Haikyuu (I’m counting Deremas all as one Winter show considering the gap wasn’t planned and vol numbers continue), for which 20k would be a best-case outcome. Possibly, but more likely it’ll be high teens unless there’s some major event ticket magic.

Charlotte is going to do its best to tap into Angel Beats! fanbase, and that was a 34k show, but success is anything but guaranteed.

Still plenty of Fall series to be announced tho.

              • Hahalollawl says:

Oh yeah, Utapri will probably get a 20k+ but not 30k average. IDK how much more is going to be announced for Fall, but i suppose something could come up that attracts a lot of interest. Presumably it would have been announced as green lit already though right?

As much as I’d like to see an original anime like Charlotte (or Classroom Crisis) do well if it’s enjoyable, I agree that anything nearing Angel Beats seems far from guaranteed.

So is there anything that hasn’t been mentioned that’s getting a lot of attention?

              • Gatmar says:

Out of all the summer titles that have a hitting above 20k….due to manga facebase currently i would say Prison School has a good shot…normally ecchi series don’t get that high marks but considering the huge sales the manga has already had…the series volumes sell at least 150k each and that was before the anime was announced so it does have a huge fan-base to back it up.

Another title that could reach 20k or above from the summer would be God Eater..cause it is amde by Ufotable and 2 that games is a major popular franchise in japan u can check the sales fro the games series….

So yeah those 2 titles are defiantly on the higher ups….

AS for the rest i can’t be sure this summer is packed with good titles and it is going otbe quite the competion…but my top 3 i want to be succesfull to merit more of them would have to be: Gate: The JSDF fought there,,,,Monster Musume and Prison School….god i hope they do well

Yeah, I guess for some people there’s not a lot that interests them, but for me there is quite a bit.

Gate interests me a lot, particularly since the MC is not a typical high school age student. It’s one of my most highly anticipated along with God Eater and a few others.

Monster Musume and Prison School I’ve seen some of the manga for, but im not sure how they will do as animel. Both are quite ecchi IIRC, so I kind of wonder how they’re going to be adapted. Will there be rampant/excessive censorship? Or content left out?

So yeah, I’m interested in a bunch of shows but I’m not sure any of them scream 20k+ seller. MAYBE God Eater and MAYBE Charlotte, but I’m not very confident that either of them will.

As for 40-50k sellers, I guess it’s not like every year has had one right? So it wouldn’t be unheard of to have none this year I guess. Seems like FSN UBW 2 could be the highest seller of the year, and I’m okay with that. Type-Moon showing off that money making power lol. To think it started as a doujin…

                  • something something says:

We actually can’t rule Dragonball Super out! Not for a 50k of course, but what about 20k? Its disc sales were 14,121 (23,191 w/re-releases) for Dragonball, 18,620 (40,507) for Dragonball Z, and 31,696 (52,923) for Dragonball GT.

Buuuuuuuuuut, that was a very, very long time ago. In a very, very different market. And Super is original material. And Kai sold basically nothing. And Toei is probably gonna Crystal it up again.

So the odds of it being a huge hit in disc sales may be very low (personally, I’d bet against it) but the idea still amuses me and it’s not like it hasn’t put up massive sales in the past.

                    • Gatmar says:

The Dragon ball thing i do not think it will sell much …i mean look at sailor moon despite the fanbase it is not selling as well when it did at its prime and a lot of new stuff and franchise have come along since dragon-ball…so i don’t think it will be as big as a seller as it once did.

And yes Hahalollawl that is also one of the reasons why i love gate cause for once we are getting an adult main character and gate despite having otaku related material actually focuses on military and political issues and is not your typical highschool teen thing…the guy who wrote was in in the JSDF before he retired so it is actually based on the perspective from a real otaku JSDF soldier..so it is interesting of a series …i can’t wait to see and i hope it does well to adapt all of the content

                    • Hahalollawl says:

Oh, didn’t know the writer was actually in the JSDF, that’s even more interesting, might make it a bit more realistic. Though I’m guessing it won’t be totally realistic assuming he didn’t meet any elves lol.

Also, I’m inclined to agree with Gatmar about Dragon Ball. It’s been a while since the franchise started, I’m not sure the enthusiasm is still at a level that suggests a 20k+ seller. I don’t know though. If it gets close to the resale # for GT (so about 20k?) I guess that would be pretty impressive. This is very speculative, so don’t ask me to back it up with evidence lol, but i think a show like God Eater could end up with a higher number than Super.
