Winter update:
Aldnoah Zero s2 v1 sells 5445/900, total 6,345. 41.5% DVD and 89.4% BD underestimated, one of the last series to fall under the Amazon/Aniplex silliness.

Boueibu v1 sells 2199/3216, total 5,415. 76.6% DVD and 104.9% BD underestimates plus strong event ticket boost took a totally dead series over 5k wk1. It’ll crash after this most likely, but still, that event ticket power is real.

Rolling Girls v1 sells 810 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Milky Holmes TD v1 sells 776 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Milkies still damedame as ever, even if this is technically a 76% increase on v1 of the previous season.

Sengoku Musou v1 sells 318/330, total 648. BDs from extended ranking.

Military! sells 339 BDs, DVDs do not rank. BDs from extended ranking, #102 for the week. One-shot release.

Saekano v1 adds 667 BDs, total 10,536. This certainly wasn’t pegged as an even remotely likely 10k series even two months ago. It’ll drop, but nonetheless, should have a solid average.

Fafner Exodus v2 adds 642 BDs, total 7,754.

Fall update:
Kiseijuu v1 sells 631 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Being released in two boxes.

Yuyuyu v4 sells 6604/471, total 7,075. Not sure this one clears 8k. As for series average, hm, maybe around 8.5k? Not bad at all, considering where it was a month before v1 release.

Yowapedal s2 v3 sells 3464/3310, total 6,774. 11.1k → 8.8k →6.8k wk1s so far, it’s coming back down to earth. v4 might be a bit lower still. Nonetheless, on track for a significant increase over s1’s average.

Psycho-Pass 2 v4 sells 3924/906, total 4,830. Sub-5k wk1s now eh. Well only one volume to go, should secure a 6k average.

Oretwi v4 sells 1,385 BDs, DVDs in extended ranking.

Ai Tenchi v3, final volume, sells 1,134 BDs, DVDs in extended ranking. Series average: 1,430.

Denki-gai v4 sells 347 BDs, DVDs do not rank. BDs from extended ranking.

Shirobako v1 adds 412, total 13,438 in wk13.
v2 adds 411, total 13,150 in wk8.
v3 adds 488, total 12,760 in wk4.

KimiUso v1 adds 520 BDs, total 12,905.

Orenchi Furo adds 500, total 2,370. One-shot DVD-only release.

World Trigger v1 adds 465 BDs, total 1,815.

Past seasons:
Free! s2 v7, final volume, sells 11347/7041, total 18,388. Modest bump over v5-6, currently higher than either of their totals in one week. Series average: 21,050. Should get to about 21.5k total. All in all not a bad drop compared to what was expected initially, looking at maybe 25-27% down from s1’s 29,108. Since I wasn’t sure if this would average 20k at first, I’m content to see it clear 21k easily. Fourth best-selling sports anime behind Free s1, Kurobas s1, Haikyuu. Fifth or sixth depending on if you count Girls und Panzer (36k) or Initial D 4th Stage (28k) as sports anime.

Haikyuu!! v9, final volume, sells 9409/7942, total 17,351. Series average: 23,367. Should end around 23.8k.

Akame ga Kill v6 sells 1224/320, total 1,544.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Shingeki Recap Movie 1 sells 6544/993 BDs, 2860/1024 DVDs, total 11,421. It’s a recap so expectations were not high, though it obviously looks a bit weird compared to the original TV series sales.

Saki Achiga-hen BD Box sells 2,030, pretty solid.

Initial D BD Box v3 sells 1,099.

Tamako Market BD Box sells 1,019.

Maoyuu BD Box sells 602.

Tsukimonogatari v2 adds 510 BDs, total 32,235. Average: 32,806.

Persona 3 Movie 2 adds 1857/474, total 26,077. Long way to go to get near movie 1’s 40k. I don’t think it’ll much clear 30k.

Strike Witches OVA v2 adds 864/391 regular/Amazon LE BDs, total 14,976.

  1. Natapori says:

I’m glad to see Free! ES average sell pasa 21K again,Even drop form SS1 but still enougt to make me happy, Awesome KyoAni.

  2. some1 says:

Aldnoah Zero S2 V1 has ticket event, but doesn’t seem to effect the sale much since it is consistent even lower than usual S1 w1 sales but maybe will get a boost later after the show end this weekend.

  3. InstallGen says:

Did Rolling Girls V1 not rank because of sales or because of time?

    • something something says:

Sales, it’s below 1.1k BDs. We’ll see sales for it later this week.

      • InstallGen says:

        Thanks,also RIP in peace.

      • Mr. Peter says:

Otaku doesn’t know what they’re missing out on.

And good god, that’s not a good sign for Wit Studio’s first original IP.

        • hpulley says:

Their HAL movie which also bombed was original wasn’t it? The manga came out after. I loved it but it did poorly both in theaters and on disc, sadly.

          • Mr. Peter says:

And to think people are going to make assumptions that Wit Studio is going to abandon moe because Rolling Girls failed and concentrate on fujoshi bait adaptations

            • something something says:

People who have this opinion don’t know what any of those words mean and shouldn’t type things on the internet anymore.

  4. AnimePhoenix says:

Bouiebu v1 had some real serious stock issues till today. Even with that it still managed to do so much. Thank you anime gods. I’m not sure if it’ll get a proper second wrek or third week because of stock issues. And I wouldn’t count on it being dead yet. I think volumes 2-6 can do 2k or more because it’s ranking have gone up on stalker.

I hope volume 2 doesn’t suffer too much in terms of stock issues.

  5. peeyaj says:

Any projection for F/S:UBW? Are we looking for the highest selling series of 2014?

    • something something says:

Highest selling of fall but definitely not of 2014, not with LLs2 selling ~65k.

Absolutely no clue exactly how it’ll sell though. Stalker couldn’t track the version that got most of the sales. Could be anywhere between 15k and 40k.

  6. rederoin says:

We can finally see Yuri Kuma’s sales crash next week!
    Yay!

    (/.s)

  7. something something says:

Updated for the full list. Rolling Girls, Milky TD, Kiseijuu, Military added to the list of the dead.

  8. moodie says:

kancolle is still making a killing? even with a season 2 announced?

    • something something says:

We don’t know how much it’ll sell yet but safe bet is between 20-30k v1. A sequel being announced isn’t surprising given those sales.

      • Ejc says:

I’m not even confident it will do 20~30k Vol.1. Before the anime aired I was confident, but after episode 3… let’s just say I would’ve dropped it by then had it not been KanColle. Japanese KanColle fans were actually pretty vocal when a sequel was confirmed, since they don’t want any more of this badly done anime, unless the staff changes.

Nevertheless it has had strong online performance at Animate, gamers and softmap, with moderate performance at HMV. It had very strong storefront performance at Animate, as it even outsold the KuroBas DVDs for the month of February according to a scan of the Animate exclusive magazine.

Yes, there are actually separate rankings for online and storefront at Animate… and I imagine it is the same for some of the other retailers. It makes a whole load of sense, because the LL Best Live collection II is doing well on the Music online Animate ranking and at other retailers too, but is not even in the Top 10 for the storefront Animate ranking for February (it was dominated by all female oriented music as you’d expect).

  9. iku says:

How does Marnie compare for first-week sales against Arietty and Poppy Hill?

    • something something says:

Terrible by comparison, much worse than anything except Kaguya-hime. Week 1 sales of Ghibli films for comparison:

1,410,947 – Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (2002)
      92,578 – Neko no Ongaeshi (2003)
      805,396 – Howl no Ugoku Shiro (2005)
      166,910 – Gedo Senki (2007)
502,228 – Gake no Ue no Ponyo (2009)
      164,032 – Karigurashi no Arrietty (2011)
      77,089 – Kokurikozaka Kara (2012)
      109,446 – Kaze Tachinu (2014)
      17,085 – Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (2014)
      21,361 – Omoide no Marnie (2015)

Not going earlier than that because we don’t have access to week-by-week VHS sales, so I’m probably already missing a bunch of Sen to Chihiro wk1 there since that’s for DVD sales only and I assume it had VHS too.

Ghibli films have long tails, of course. Kaguya-hime has so far more than doubled its wk1 sales to 38,396, and we should expect Marnie to go well beyond 40k. Still a tiny drop in the bucket compared to what Ghibli used to pull, though. Even Kaze Tachinu, the only Miyazaki-directed film since 2008, barely cleared 100k first week. Miles away from Sen to Chihiro, Howl, or Ponyo.

  10. Guest says:

Couldn´t imagine that Kiseijuu is that low, special reason behind this?

    • something something says:

No more special than “very few people wanted to buy it” !

I think it’s audience is much more interested in the manga and live action films. The film did quite well.

  11. AnimePhoenix says:

I forgot to mention this, good job OreFuro! That’s a great second week. These are good sales for a short right? Hope it goes over 2.5k in the extended ranking.

  12. something something says:

Checked the extended rankings for this week. About 125 DVDs and 105 BDs were new or added a week of ranking. Now, this week was… weird. More than double the usual DVDs were updated, and it’s because Oricon added a whole bunch of releases that weren’t there previously. For example, volumes of Soul Link, Black Blood Brothers, Esper Mami DVD box, The Third, Noein, Marimite, Higurashi and so on. Oricon, you’re strange!

Also annoying is some old volumes suddenly being ranked much more highly than they were before – specifically, ranking where they would be if their sales had exactly doubled. My guess as to how this happens is that they have the release in their database twice, and combine the sales for the ranking. For example, Tenipri v23 from 2003 was at 5,846 before but all of a sudden it’s ranking next to a 11,693. Obviously I’m not taking these new numbers, which are wildly off.

    Some v1 updates:

    Fafner Exodus v1 → 9,997
    Drrr x2 v1 → 6,962
    World Trigger v1 → 2,016
