2015 Winter Vol 1 Rankings
Please note: Volume 1 sales are not the best, or even a particularly good, way to evaluate a series’ performance. Sometimes one of two formats doesn’t rank in volume 1, but ranks in a later volume. Often times volume 1 sales are inflated with bonuses like event tickets or bundled manga, etc. Always, always use the average sales when evaluating anime, not volume 1 sales. I only provide these because it takes many months before we have a final average and people like to be able to ballpark a season early on. Just be intelligent about it!

Notes
Sales number includes includes estimates of DVDs based on >100 ranking lists or other sources. Generally only included if believed accurate within 100 copies.
Partial Ranking means a release came out on more than one video format, but only one of the two ranked.
Large Vol. 2 Drop? designates any titles that dropped by 30% or more from Vol. 1 to Vol. 2. This is used to indicate that you should take caution in evaluating the success of the show purely on the first volume’s sales.

Nice to see Boueibu selling well. Maybe we’ll get another season of our magical boys!

  2. […] a sales prediction to wrap up this month – Winter 2015 will outdo Winter 2014’s performance without even counting Kancolle, what was supposed to be its strongest title. Sounds less impressive now that we’ll know it […]

I think some of the figures here are out of date, or you may have forgotten to update them.
These are what I have from the extended lists, but may be a bit off since I am using your spreadsheet from Apr 11.

    ● 22,829 KuroBas Season 3 (9,274~9,326 BD + 13,555~13,652 DVD)
    ● 10,775 JoJo Egypt-hen (8,684~8,707 BD + 2,091~2,099 DVD)
    ● *1,757 Shounen Hollywood -Holly Stage for 50- (1,332~1,340 BD + 425~426 DVD)
    ● *1,310 Yuri Kuma Arashi (1,148~1,161 BD + 162~191 DVDs)
    ● **,552 Military! (552~558 BDs)

    • something something says:

I think I changed the update date at the top and maybe one or two items, then got distracted, then came back later and thought I’d already updated this post, so I just published it. But I hadn’t actually updated it, heh. Fixed now, thanks for the heads up.

It’s a totally insignificant difference, but I have 10,783 for Jojo. The lower bound on DVDs may be 2,091 at the moment, but there was previously a 2,099 between that and Jojo (that subsequently ranked again and moved higher), so we know the lower bound is at least 2,099. Same deal with Military, 552 is the current lower bound, but previously there was a 553 between them, so I have it as that.

Again it really makes no difference to the averages but it’s the sort of thing that can result in tiny discrepancies from different ways of maintaining the list, so that’s why various lists may differ ever so slightly. (Putting aside differences arising from me just forgetting to actually update the page, I mean.)

In fact I often don’t even bother updating my main spreadsheet if the shifts are only a couple units, because Oricon’s hundreds of duplicate and missing releases every week shift the rankings around all helter skelter (particularly for DVD, BD is a lot more stable). It’s just not worth it usually, for such tiny differences.
