I kept putting this off to spend more time plowing through the full Oricon rankings to populate older data, but an update is waaaay past due now.
I did save a copy of the Quick View list with the averages from before I started adding extended ranking data. My plan is to take the list when I finish (don’t hold your breath, could be 2-3 more weeks) and compare the average before the update to the average after. I’ll show the amount increased or decreased and what percentage of sales that accounts for. Obviously I’ll need to remove anything that had a new volume released in the past few weeks considering that’d skew the results, so it’ll mostly be for already completed series.
The 10k list has seen a good boost today:
Initial D Fifth Stage – Fall 2012, only just realized I missed it.
Hyouka – Extended ranking puts it over the line.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. – Ditto above.
Free! -Eternal Summer- – The question is if it’ll hit 20k, not 10k, so it’s a lock.
Sword Art Online II- – Ditto above.
Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken Stardust Crusaders – Now that I’m splitting it and Egypt-hen, the second season of Jojo gets 10k. Egypt-hen will probably slip a bit below.
Three 2014 titles not in the above list are currently over 10k: Nozaki-kun, Mahouka, and P4GA. The first two are all but a lock, but they’re close enough that I’ll wait until they’re either done or only have one volume left. P4GA is a very long shot, three volumes left and only about 10.5k even with extended list additions. It’ll probably end mid-9s.
The only 10k from Fall is going to be UBW. Even if G Reco was indeed a case of Oricon not adding the Amazon edition it’s still going to be closer to 7k than 10k. Yuyuyu is the dark horse but I think only v1 will hit 10k. Maybe 8k average.
So we’re probably looking at 10 10ks in 2014. Lowest since 2007, but not drastically lower than the 11-12 most of those years have had.
