Gochiusa sells 7.9k, yay.

Spring update:
Love Live s2 v1 sells 82119/396 LE/RE, total 82,515 as a BD-only release. Event ticket. (If this doesn’t illustrate the absurdity of the existence of REs I don’t know what could.)

Gochiusa v1 sells 6839/1030, total 7,899. Event ticket. At least there’s some good news this season! It won’t be quite Non Non-tier, but it should be at least Kinmosa-tier, and that leaves a good bit of confidence for s2.

Isshukan v1 sells 3658/1047, total 4,705. Event ticket. Amazon predicting a modest drop but this vol will hit 5k so maybe 4k average.

Akuma no Riddle v1 sells 1074/395, total 1,469. Event ticket. FOUR DIGITS! FOUR DIGITS! NOT THE ABSOLUTE WORST SELLING SHOW! These are the Pyrrhic victories I live for these days. Please kill me and end my torment.

Gaworare v1 sells 1034/290, total 1,324. Event ticket.

Winter update:
Chuukoi Ren v4 sells 5168/733, total 5,901.

Mikakunin v4 sells 4541/488, total 5,029.

Saki Zenkoku-hen v4 sells 3522/260, total 3,782. Urgh 3 vols to go and I really want this to hold on to at least 4.5k average (currently 4,755) but I don’t know if it can.

Witch Craft Works v4 sells 3,355, BD-only release. Bit of a drop.

Sakura Trick v4 sells 1,656 BDs, DVDs do not rank. currently 2,104 average, to maintain 2k it needs to sell at least 1,550 BDs each of the last two volumes. It would also help its average if DVD does not rank again…
Watch it end up at 1,994, at which point I will raze Oricon to the ground for not counting my 6 copies.

BuddyCom v4 sells 1,048, BD-only release.

SoniAni v4 sells 904 BDs, DVDs do not rank. A 22% increase on v3, which would be impressive if that didn’t mean only 166 discs.

Space Dandy v3 sells 697 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Pretty brutal, that’s a 40% drop from v1 already by v3. And there are 7 to go! v3 dropped more on v2 than v2 dropped on v1.

Hoozuki v1 adds 615/745 A ver., total 12,709.

RGZ v1 adds 473 BDs, total 1,550. While that’s still kinda terrible, adding >50% as many BDs in wk2 as in wk1 is pretty rare!

Past seasons:
Kurobas s2 v6 sells 6720/6743, total 13,463.

Gundam BF BD Box v2 sells 4046/3802, total 7,848. DVD v7 sells 447. Right now the average sits at 8,688 so odds of hitting 9k are good, it doesn’t need to add a whole lot to BD v2 at this point. Two DVD vols remain for July and Aug, it would actually be better for its 9k chances if they don’t rank, but they probably will.

Dia no A v2 sells 4,964 as a DVD-only release. I… what the fuck? 310% increase over v1, for what may be literally no reason. I see a booklet and a clear file mentioned on Amazon, no event ticket or manga chapter or whatever. Oricon, did you screw up again like with that Tamayura DVD?

Yowapedal v7 sells 2399/2113, total 4,512.

Monogatari v8 adds 339 BDs, total 39,408.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Yojouhan BD Box sells 2,652.

Sengoku Basara BD Box sells 817. Includes like everything Basara ever, and adds onto previous sales of 739 for s1 BD box and 1,075 for s2 BD box.

Madoka Hangyaku adds 298 LE BDs, total 180,613.

Persona 3 #1 adds 618 LE BDs, total 37,904.

Steins;Gate adds 377 LE BDs, total 35,974 in wk20, meaning it added 1467 over wks 7-19.

IniD Final v1 is up to 5,872.

Love Live! re-releasse adds:
v1 adds 392, total 5,406.
v2 adds 309, total 5,208.
v3 adds 286, total 5,232.
v4 adds 289, total 5,965.
v5 adds 274, total 6,674.
v6 adds 269, total 5,254.
v7 adds 247, total 4,624.
Average: 5,480

  1. Avatar Exukvera says:

Is these numbers wrong or μ’s really reached Madoka levels of sales?

    • Avatar Ejc says:

      No mistake. It is true.

People predicted it could hit 70k+ and it did very easily. It is within striking distance of passing the best selling TV anime volume (BD+DVD) of 83,967, which was Bakemonogatari Vol.4. It set 2 new records as well. Love Live! Vol.1 sets the record of the highest selling TV Anime BD (in the first week), and also the highest selling TV Anime BD+DVD (in the first week) in the 21st century. Previous record holders was Madoka Vol.2 BD at 53,715 in the 1st week, and Bakemonogatari Vol.6 at 72,207 BD+DVD in the 1st week.

It also beat Evangelion, which is the talk of 2ch right now.

      96/12/05 57764 93457 1 24 Genesis 0:10
      96/12/05 23188 37709 2 14 Genesis 0:10

      新世紀エヴァンゲリオン Genesis 0:10
      80,952 (VHS57764 LD23188)

    • Avatar hpulley says:

Those numbers are correct. LoveLive! has gone past Madoka. Past Evangelion Genesis TV Series back in the VHS days. Biggest wk1 ever if I’m not mistaken.

Seems to be a typo here, extraneous copy/paste I assume as you know it is 3,355 BD only:
Witch Craft Works v4 sells 4541/488, total 3,355 as BD-only release. Bit of a drop.

    • Avatar Masterman says:

That V1 will sell crazy amounts is nothing to be surprised about if you had been following the stalker predictions. V2 onwards is predicted to sell a lot less so it will determine if LL S2 will reach Madoka levels of sales

      • Avatar hpulley says:

Yeah, average it may not beat SnK… stay tuned. If they toss in another event ticket in v7 like season 1? Who knows…

        • Avatar Primadog says:

What stops the promoter from throwing in an event ticket for every volume? It obviously is working.

          • Avatar hpulley says:

Would probably be too much of a good thing and too much for their schedules. u’s and LoveLive! are NOT AKB48 which does shows daily in their theater. At present u’s does 2/3 concerts a year and their best known seiyuu, Yoshinon and Mimorin have their own solo and band careers plus other anime work so for them to do 7 u’s concerts a year might be too much.

Each volume has, perhaps more importantly, game codes for the Mobile iOS/Android app game, the new PS Vita game (if it ever comes out, was supposed to be out last month), CD singles, loveca cards. The franchise is just firing on all cylinders, a multimedia monster. Tie ins from each media link into others, getting 3 million mobile gamers interested in the anime, anime fans interested in the CDs, idol fans interested in the concerts, all buying into other parts of the franchise.

Week one might have been even higher but Amazon ran out of stock, will be back next week. Bandai just can’t print the stuff fast enough.

    • something something says:

Very cheap disc with extras + event ticket (the latter is everything, think Utapri), not really comparable. Other vols won’t sell this much though they’ll be around 50k possibly (assuming they’re massively underestimated which they will be).

    • Avatar mk03 says:

@Exukvera Are you Exukvera from Wikipedia? Just curious.

  2. Avatar BigOnAnime says:

So where does Love Live! S2 V1 rank now for best-selling volume 1’s, especially after only week 1?

    • Avatar hpulley says:

      Best ever.

    • Avatar Ejc says:

Top 20 Best selling Vol.1s (with BD+DVD). It should be #1 by next Tuesday’s numbers.

  3. Avatar Primadog says:

Frankly, I’m just impressed that anything could beat a Ghibli film release.

  4. Avatar NATAPORI says:

Ah Daiya no A is big Surprise.it’s increase over 3K from VOl.1.Awesome really

  5. Avatar pippi says:

Obviously, something needs to watch Love Live.

  6. Avatar rederoin says:

Anybody knows what kind of ‘bonus video footage’ was included in the Gochuisa BDs?

  7. Avatar mk03 says:

Looks like a terrible week as usual for canon yuri, but yuri subtext absolutely demolishes the competition. You probably should set aside your goggles and biases for a while and give LL another try. Particularly this season, it’s a pretty enjoyable series, and this is coming from someone who’s neither a big yuri fan (at most only a moderate one who likes reading yuri doujinshi) nor an idol fan.

Also, I thought Saki was pretty popular in Japan. Why isn’t it selling more?

Also, Tesagure continuing to trounce Tokyo Ravens continues to amaze me.

    • something something says:

I’m pretty sure a better idea is that you should just stop telling me what you think I should do, thanks.

    • Avatar rederoin says:

Just like something, i’m not exactly a fan of the series. Its average at best for me. But I don’t think any amount of rewatches will change somebodies opinion on this series. I myself just don’t really like most of the girls, and even the yuri undertones don’t make up for it. Wixoss and Gochuisa both had better undertones.

      • Avatar mk03 says:

        Moral: Everyone has different tastes.

On that note: how’s the Stalker predictions for Mahouka and Mekaku? Last I heard they were expected to sell 5k at best.

        • Avatar rederoin says:

Mahouka is still sitting around 5k. Mekaku is around 3.5k, but it has an event ticket drop.

          • something something says:

Mekaku will /probably/ kill its Stalker estimates (its core audience is not the Amazon otaku at all) but the attrition over 12 volumes is going to be truly heinous, and it’s still like exponentially below what it could have achieved if it struck all the right chords. (Will Aniplex learn from their failure and stop abusing fans? PROBABLY NOT.)

The exclusive singles may be a pretty big deal at any rate. Each volume includes one and it’s not something we’re likely to see get a separate release any time soon.

  8. Avatar Danius says:

Best news of the week! Gochiusa v1 sells 7,899. I hope it will reach 8k next week.

    • Avatar rederoin says:

No need to hope, with the last episode boost it can even reach 9k in the next weeks. Or maybe i’m just being too hopefull.

      • Avatar mk03 says:

Let’s just hope that manga sales gain a boost.

      • something something says:

Figure 800 BDs next week, 300 the week after, assuming no stock issues. Which… would put it at 8,999, hah. Well it should be high 8ks at least. I don’t think it’ll have quite the wk1+ longevity of Non Non or Kinmosa, it probably did more of its sales in wk1.

I say based on basically nothing but hey.

      • Avatar Progeusz says:

It keeps falling so we’ll probably have to wait for wk3 or possibly even wk4 if DVDs don’t rank again. Similarly ranking around release date Sidonia was doing visibly better after 3-4 days and it had 899 wk2 sales.
But it’s definitely in S2 territory, it will most likely do better than KinMosa. Now we have to wait till there’s enough material. Hopefully it will happen in next two years. After that sequel would become less likely.

        • something something says:

How much of the manga has the anime covered?

          • Avatar Progeusz says:

Unfortunately I don’t know. Help of someone who imported the manga would be appreciated. Going by the common sense (I know it doesn’t always work) one season should cover at least two volumes. v3 came out in March, v4 should be out Feb-Apr next year. I know magazines are ahead but it also takes time to create the anime so I assume they should even out. So there should be just enough material to get perfect timing with S2 – 2 years or less. I guess filler final episode like KinMosa could also work in the worst case. After all the chances of S3 are close to zero.
Personally, I’m overjoyed with Gochiusa’s performance, especially after that amazing Christmas episode when it matched the great SoLs of 2013 in my ranking (but YYS is #1).

            • something something says:

I have the manga, but haven’t flipped through it. I just asked someone on twitter who said the anime is moving extremely slowly through the manga though (must be 1 chapter an ep?) so there’s actually plenty left. At least another cour at current pace even without additional manga chapters.

  9. Avatar Kurama says:

Hooray for Ace of Diamond! I’m praying for it to get another season.

    • something something says:

It airs 8:30AM on Sundays so ratings probably matter much much more than disc sales, though if that 4k+ number is true, it certainly doesn’t hurt.

      • Avatar Kurama says:

I know that, but the ratings have been pretty ‘meh’ so far. Not bad, but not so great that it automatically warrants another season, so I’m hoping that disc sales will make Madhouse and Production I.G. lean towards adapting the rest of the manga.

  10. Avatar ried says:

Big but pleasant surprise for Dia no Ace. I’m guessing it may have to do with the announcement on a Nico Nama show that purchasing the first 6 volumes from Chara Ani (I think? Don’t really remember) has the bonus of a DVD of a previous event?

    • something something says:

Oh maybe that’s it. I’ve been trying to figure out what the heck could cause this. Odd that the increase isn’t reflected in v1 sales, though. They need to triple for that reason to work… sure they’ve added some below thresholds in the past few weeks, but DVD thresholds have been really low lately so it couldn’t have added much.

Still mysterious, but that is at least a decently plausible explanation!

Great to see Gochiusa post a strong opening number. I’m also definitely hoping for a second season.

Isshukan Friends @4.7k is okay. Would have liked to see it break 5k but my main realistic hope for this show was to get Tamayura-level sales (the latest OVA notwithstanding) and so far it’s looking good on that end.

Kind of hoping for some more out of Mikakunin. Posting a 5.0k w1 is pretty good, but each volume will need a bit more than that for the series to overall average 6k. Though it’s still doing pretty well regardless (especially considering how dead Winter 2014 is otherwise).

    How about a double suicide?

phrasing hoping for dvds not ranking kind of is chuckle inducing, but i guess in terms of the stats that does help make its numbers looking good in this aspect of fans counting.

Why is LiSA’s counted but not Sound Horizons?

    • something something says:

Partly because which concerts I include or don’t is super arbitrary, but also because I don’t really know who Sound Horizon is, whereas LiSA I know as a major anisong performer (her being Aniplex’s darling).

And yeah, even if Sakura Trick DVDs rank for remaining volumes, it only lowers the average by, like… maybe 15. But in a borderline case like this that could be enough to dip below 2k!

H-how… Why is there no Arpeggio in the full list? That means is sold less than 245 even though it should have been ~350. I guess people couldn’t wait for last volume and bought it earlier than previous ones. Next week there’s plenty of releases so the threshold will probably be too high once again. So we’re waiting for monthly list.
On the other hand, Sidonia somehow pulls bigger wk4 than wk3 and that wasn’t even related to the final episode. Should we expect nice wk5 as well? I was ready for pretty long tail but thought it would add like 300 copies, not 600.

Sidonia adds 666, total 7,995. BD-only release. Added 2k in three weeks, very impressive for a sub-6k first week. Let’s see how v2 sells on Tuesday.

    >Steins;Gate adds 377 LE BDs, total 35,974 in wk20, meaning it added 1467 over wks 7-19.
Whoa, nice jump. Was there some S;G event held recently? Or maybe TV re-run?

Poor Sakura Trick. Hope it manages to keep 2k average. Otherwise it would be just too sad… With AnR I’m still waiting for subs with decent video quality, no way in hell am I watching Funi stream. I’m starting to think it’s better to wait for BDs.

    • something something says:

There was some novel news for Steins;Gate and the movie is currently 50% off at Amazon, so those must have driven just enough sales to rank again.

I never did watch that movie.

      • Avatar Progeusz says:

Oh, it makes sense, great deal.

It’s really good, on par with the TV series. Maybe even slightly better thanks to being condensed. They’re connected in a somewhat similar manner to Madoka and Rebellion though obviously on smaller scale – you know, how it fits the TV series and so on. I’m not sure if you liked Steins;Gate but in my opinion the movie is obligatory watch for any fan.

        • something something says:

I thought the ending was fairly weak, but I still liked it enough to import it. Just not enough to go out of my way to make sure I see the movie, because I’m super bad at remembering to watch OVAs and movies and stuff in any sort of timely manner unless it’s an absolute favorite.

    YowaPedav6wk1 : 4,237
    YowaPedav7wk1: 4,512

An extra 275 copies. YowaPeda rose again. This is great! If it can just keep this up, that would be amazing.

Hoping for a good second week for KuroBasu v6.
