Some very consistent volumes vis a vis previous volumes this week. Four more shows end as well.

Winter update:
Chuunibyou Ren v3 sells 5378/838, total 6,216, up 2.4% on v2wk1.

Saki Zenkoku v3 sells 3728/280, total 4,008, up 0.3% on v2wk1.

v3 sells 1,820 as a BD-only release. Down 7% on v2wk1 and 55% on v1 already. Harshest event ticket drop of the season, though technically Sonico’s drop was more (but that’s a pretty special case!).

  1. AnimePhoenix says:

Hoozuki crosses 12k. Hopefully it will cross 13k when the full list is out?

Hope YowaPeda BD can add another 350 copies or so to put volume 6 over 5k.

  2. Tiago says:

Next week is huge wow great consistency for all this week releases, hopefully saki won’t go bellow 4k..

  3. hpulley says:

Yes, big week next week so ST3 and WUG3 may not get week 2s? Ah well, I’m supporting series that need it for winter 2014… but I still wish they had done better.

    • something
      something says:

Sakura Trick never gets wk2s due to how it’s timed, so it certainly won’t next week of all weeks.

  4. rederoin says:

Its love live domination time nex week(and 3 weeks after that).

  5. mk03 says:

    >Chuunibyou Ren v3 sells 5378/838, total 6,216, up 2.4% on v2wk1.
    Could be better.

    >Sakura Trick v3 sells 1723/230, total 1,953, down 1.7% on v2.
Well, it could have been worse. Let’s just hope the manga gets enough of a boost to start ranking.

    • hpulley says:

Volume 4 of Sakura Trick was the best chance, came out recently but it didn’t rank. Probably never will but I just hope it continues anyway. Volume 4 goes to February in their second year so things went faster than the first year which took 3 volumes to complete from first day of school to the last day of school. At this rate 2-4 more volumes could have them graduate from high school and see where they’re heading in life which is where most series like this end ‘naturally’. But, volume 3 ending the season of anime was a wonderful place to end it. While I’d love to see season 2, I think it is a miracle that Sakura Trick got made at all, that they didn’t pull any punches on kisses or confessions. So while it could have sold better and it could have sold worse, I just think it is a privilege that we get to see it and own it at all.

Aiura manga just ended recently and it was also due to the graduation of the girls. 7 volumes of manga, 4 koma so very similar pace to Sakura Trick. Wish there could have been another season of that anime too… another disc I treasure.

While Yuyushiki manga continues! The volume 6 cover is great! Okaasan and Yuzuko on the cover! I just started rewatching the Blurays yet again, already watched them through twice and on Crunchyroll twice before that. Season 2 is unlikely there again which is sad but there too I’m just glad it got made at all, so rewatchable.

    • rederoin says:

I can see it reaching a 2k average, and remember, we don’t know how much its selling in its 2nd week. At the moment, the median for winter 2014 shows is at 2.5k(super sonico), so its not a complete disaster.. Unlike Akuma no Riddle. InuNeko is our only hope this year.

      • something
        something says:

Pinning hopes on a short that’ll sell maybe 1k if lucky doesn’t comfort me very much.

        • rederoin says:

Ai Mai Mi had a 2nd season at less than 1k sales.

          • something
            something says:

Oh I’m not saying it’ll necessarily do terribly for a short I thought you meant it as something to pin the hopes of yuri fandom on… And it would illustrate just how dire the situation is, if InuNeko of all things were our champion!

Overall I think Sakura Trick, despite only selling about 2k, is much more important than InuNeko and certainly more than Akuma no Riddle (in which yuri is a much much less central element). It is the most fundamentally and unashamedly yuri-centic anime ever made, and it blatantly goes out of its way to give no quarter to those who only like yuri if it leaves enough plausible deniability to justify their gangbang rape bukkake doujins. And despite that, its sales were only “bad” and not “Kaminai/C3/Coppelion-level apocalypse”.

Which is a pretty terrible level to put the bar at but, ugh, it’s just the reality of where we are right now. So I guess even ~2000 people buying Sakura Trick (or uh ~1994 + me) in the first week is… better than it could have been?

    • something
      something says:

I don’t get the “could be better” comment, how exactly? The season as a whole could be selling better, but that’s obvious to say the least given how much season one sold. Within the context of how Ren v1 sold though, the show has been very consistent so far.

      • mk03 says:

Remember that Chuu2 had a sizeable fanbase. Generally Ren had a relatively large drop in sales. Which is what I meant by “it could have been better”.

        • musouka says:

Yeah, but I don’t think Chuu2 was ever the type of series that was going to retain that fanbase over the long term. Though, thinking about it, sometimes I wonder if KyoAni’s lack of the full “mixed media” thing a lot of companies do has hurt the potential longevity of some of its original IPs. The light novels probably help somewhat, but…

      • something
        something says:

That’s something it’d make more sense to say about v1 though, not when directly quoting a comment about v3 sales relative to v2. Indeed Ren sold like crap compared to s1, but that was known months ago, before v1 even came out.

Just in case it wasn’t obvious, no full data came out today so we’ll check again tomorrow.

  8. something
    something says:

Updated for the full list. Nothing particularly earth-shattering added.

    Ranking summary to follow tonight.

  9. AnimePhoenix says:

YowaPeda 6 crosses 5k! Hooray! Hoozuki crosses 13k, wonderful!

  10. Progeusz says:

    Arpeggio v5 adds 201 BDs, total 11,660 in wk4.
12,471 more for 12.5k average, I hope for some boosts in mid-yearly data which we’ll get in three weeks. I know only v1 would barely rank in 2013 mid-year but it feels like this time we didn’t have as many huge sellers so there’s a chance. If not, we’ll have to wait for yearly data which unfortunately isn’t safe bet either. A shame about DVD wk2s, there should be 700-850 hidden discs there.

    • Anonymous says:

Just wanted to thank you for always filling in the ignored Arpeggio weekly updates; will you do the same thing with Sidonia too?

      • rederoin says:

        Nobody cares about Tesagure

        ;_;

      • Progeusz says:

You’re welcome. Arpeggio deserves a mention, at least in comments, it’s just too good and I’m really happy it continues to do well.
We’ll see about it when I finally get around to watching Sidonia. It would be great if I liked it as much as Arpeggio but I’m trying to avoid setting my expectations high. Potential is there because I loved other Nihei’s manga though I also heard Sidonia is among his weaker works (not that it’s anywhere close to being bad, after all Tsutomu is an exceptional mangaka).
Actually, the situation is quite similar because I only watched Arpeggio after it ended. Now it’s a bit earlier but so is release date. I’ll download Sidonia and see if I have time today. When I finally start, catching up should go smoothly.

  11. Danius says:

I’m still and always will be so sad that Sakura Trick didn’t sell better… way better….
