Slightly bigger wk2s for a number of titles, making up a slight bit of ground for smallish wk1s last week.

The weird blip with KLK v5 ranking 5 days early ended up being 1,020.

Winter update:
Nourin v2 sells 1428/284, total, total 1,712. Yiiiikes, down 53.4% on v1wk1. Seriously huge drop.

Nisekoi v2 adds 674/290, total 6,023. Down 19% on v1wk2.

Witch Craft Works v2 adds 520, total 4,360. Down 8.4%.

Maken-ki! s2 v2 adds 345 BDs, total 3,085. Down 18.1% on v1wk2.

Hamatora v1 adds 365 DVDs, total 2,704.

D-Frag! v2 adds 395 BDs, total 2,386. A 26% drop becomes a 11.3% drop, but only because v1 did not get wk2 data so this is two weeks vs one.

Inarikonkon v2 adds 316, total 1,792. Down 23.6%.

Fall update:
Blazblue v5 sells 1,286 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Outbreak Co v5 sells 1,228 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Kill la Kiill v5 sells 1,020 BDs, DVDs do not rank. OMG TRIGGER IS DOOMED no actually it was just some store shipping way early (HMV? Neowing? Animate? I can’t decide who is likely to move 10% of KLK sales. I guess it does have to be an online shop), so we’ll get the real sales next week. I’m just going to add next week’s sales to this week when I record it in my spreadsheet all as week 1, it’s silly to count next week as week 2.

Kurobas v4 adds 1719/2234, total 18,510. Not as big a second week as v2, but still big, making up for a lot of its wk1 drop. Should easily clear 19k next week as long as DVDs rank again. The consistency continues.

Infinite Stratos 2 v6 adds 1281/451, total 13,613.

LitBus v4 adds 970 BDs, total 8,948. First volume of the franchise under 9k.

Non Non v4 adds 873 BDs, total 7,525.

Strike The Blood v4 adds 553 BDs, total 5,822.

Log Horizon v4 adds 328 BDs, total 3,856. There’s some caveats due to volumes ranking differing numbers of weeks, but right now it’s ridiculously consistent: 4,067 > 3,815 > 3,885 > 3,856.

Valvrave v5 adds 364 BDs, total 3,724.

Machine Doll v5 adds 468 BDs, total 3,572.

Magi s2 v4 adds 366 DVDs, total 3,443.

NagiAsu v5 adds 358 BDs, total 3,260.

Past seasons:
Monogatari v7 adds 2648/511, total 37,107. Second biggest wk2 so far, gets it closer to maintaining about a ~1.5k drop from arc to arc, assuming it adds another ~1.4k in the pt2 boost.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Kuroshitsuji BD Box sells 398. Comapred to its 13,971 average in singles this has to be one of the worst original vs box performances ever.
…is what I was saying until I realized this is also a 5/07 release, meaning it was shipped early just like Kill La Kill. And now I have to wonder just how common this sort of thing is!

Madoka Hagyaku adds 1566/491 BDs, 603 DVDs, total 174,291.

SAO EE adds 1739/650, total 22,317.

SEED Destiny BD Box v4, final volume, adds 1014, total 9,939. Catches back up with v2-3 after a smaller wk1, puts the total box run over 40k cumulative units.

Mushishi Hihamukage adds 572 BDs, total 6,473.

  1. Tiago says:

Nisekoi ranking a week 2 on DVD proves that it didn’t on volume 1 because of stock problems. Great to see… Now is time to wait for the full blu ray list.

    • something something says:

The threshold was higher in v1wk2, at 351 compared to 284 this time (which Nisekoi just barely cleared). So it could just be a threshold thing. But yes, resolving any stock issues could have been enough to make a difference and put it a bit over the 351 threshold.

      • Tiago says:

Yeah I saw it afterwards, but I’m guessing a stock problems free week 2 for a first volume, should be bigger than volume 2 one. Unless these most recent episodes were well received. (We will never know)

  2. Progeusz says:

    >9,047+888=9,935 v5 wk1
Yeah, that’s more like my Arpeggio. Drop is visible when compared to v1-3 but it’s rather small, quite impressive consistency. The trend of more people choosing BD instead of DVD with every volume (%-wise) continues too.

    Nice wk2 for KuroBasu.
    Keep ranking, MadoMagi!

  3. AnimePhoenix says:

    Great second week for KuroBasu!

Nourin has a big event ticket drop…

  4. rederoin says:

    Why Nourin, why… ;_;

  5. rederoin says:

Next week will be just as slow, by the way.

  6. Tiago says:

Next week wise I’m just curious about noragami, I wonder what kind of drop it will have.

    • AnimePhoenix says:

Judging by estimates on Stalker, I’m hoping for 3k first week.

    • rederoin says:

If it was underestimated as much as v1 was(31%), we are looking at a 3.4k first week.

If we include w2+, and if the sales stay consistent, v3-v6 will be selling around 3.9k. Meaning we’ll be looking at a 4.7k~ average.

  7. Anonymous says:

So what kind of a percentage drop from v1 -> v2 counts as significant enough that it could be attributed to the lack of event ticket/bonus, and not just normal decline?

    • something something says:

If I had to generalize, I’d say anything over about 20% drop almost has to be due to some bonus in volume one. Event tickets are just the most infamous, but it can be a manga/novel chapter, game DLC code, artbox, OVA, heavily discounted price, really anything that makes the volume unique.

There is just no good reason why a volume two with identical release specs to volume one should drop much more than 20%, barring bizarre stock issues. I’m sure I could find examples, but it’s just not normal.

(Note that quirks of ranking thresholds very often make drops look bigger than they are, especially if v1 ranks on DVD, or for multiple weeks, while v2 does not. This can make an especially huge difference for low-selling shows.)

  8. something something says:

    Updated with the full list.

    Ranking summary to follow tonight.

  9. Tiago says:

LitBus should go over 9k next week (such a small week, it will probably rank). Nisekoi does a excellent week 2, total wise already over mikakunin vol 2, it will be close for a third week like volume 1 managed, but not impossible. How much can it average in the end? 6k is possible?

    • something something says:

Possible, but very very very tight. I just ran a quick scenario and it would require every upcoming volume stays within 2-4% of the previous volume. A very high degree of consistency is needed. Or one of the later volumes coming with some sort of sales-boosting bonus.

  10. Clotho says:

Is that the best selling Gundam BD Box ReRelease, or is it hard to compare?

    • something something says:

Gundam BD Boxes by average sales:
      18,851 – 1st Gundam (1 box)
      12,249 – Gundam SEED (4 boxes)
      10,053 – Gundam SEED Destiny (4 boxes)
      *5,237 – Gundam W (2 boxes)

Gundam BD Boxes by total unit sales
      48,997 – Gundam SEED (4 boxes)
      40,213 – Gundam SEED Destiny (4 boxes)
      18,851 – 1st Gundam (1 box)
      10,474 – Gundam W (2 boxes)

Gundam BD Boxes by total gross sales in yen
      ¥979,940,000 – Gundam SEED (4 boxes)
      ¥803,818,000 – Gundam SEED Destiny (4 boxes)
      ¥659,785,000 – 1st Gundam (1 box)
      ¥293,272,000 – Gundam W (2 boxes)

1st Gundam had the most number of individual buyers. But it was by far the cheapest, with 43 eps for ¥35,000 (¥814/ep).

SEED by far made the most money and sold the most units. It was almost half the cost of 1st at ¥20,000, but multiply that by 4 boxes, meaning 50 eps for ¥80,000 (¥1600/ep, nearly double)

Destiny was the same setup as SEED but roughly 20% lower sales overall.

Wing did well as far as BD boxes go but is leagues behind the other three.

And now we wait to see how compares.

(With boxsets you always want to look at the numbers multiple ways because release styles vary considerably.)
